Okay, we all know how politicians flip flop. Yesterdays well qualified, already confirmed by the Senate once or twice judges become extremeists overnight. Here are some fun quotes by Democrats on past confirmation proceedings of judge Alito.

SEN. TED KENNEDY (D-MA): “You Have Obviously Had A Very Distinguished Record, And I Certainly Commend You For Long Service In The Public Interest. I Think It Is A Very Commendable Career And I Am Sure You Will Have A Successful One As A Judge.” (Sen. Ted Kennedy, Committee On The Judiciary, U.S. Senate, Hearing, 4/5/90)

Expect this to be his tone for much longer? I bet by noon these words are non-operational.

SEN. FRANK LAUTENBERG (D-NJ): “I Believe Mr. Alito Has The Experience And The Skills To Be The Kind Of Judge The Public Deserves – One Who Is Impartial, Thoughtful, And Fair. I Urge The Senate To Confirm His Nomination.” (Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Congressional Record, 4/27/90, p. S5281)

FORMER SEN. BILL BRADLEY (D-NJ): “[T]he Confirmation Of Sam Alito As U.S. Attorney For New Jersey Is Testimony To The Commitment He Has Shown And The Success Of His Efforts As A Law Enforcement Official. I Am Confident That He Will Continue To Do All He Can To Uphold The Laws Of This Nation With The Kind Of Determination And Vigor That Has Been His Trademark In The Past.” (Sen. Bill Bradley, Congressional Record, 12/8/87, p. S17427)

It's going to be nice to see how former Presidential canidate reacts to this if he's brought on cable TV shows.

We already have Reid and Schumer (OMG color me shocked.) saying Alito is a bad choice and/or divisive. Well, that took less than an hour! I'm now fully behind anyone the bumbling duo hate so much so soon. Thanks for the ringing endorsement.

Oh, BTW, it was their acceptence of Meiers that ultimately did her in on the right.
 
Yeah, it would be just a travesty if people changed their minds 15 YEARS LATER.

It would be just damnable if people, praising him before having served any (or any substantial) time as a judge, were to change their position on him as a result of, oh, perhaps the work he's done over the past 15 (or 18 in Bradley's case) years.

I have faith in your to make a presentable argument, and you go an do this? :shame: You can do better than that. Please tell us what conservative portal site you lifted these from, so we can place the blame where it rightfully belongs.

:rofl: Please, sir. You would have us believe that? So, does this mean that you're willing to rescind your narrow-minded belief that the Democrats are the only party willing to play political games to the detriment of this nation? Would you have us believe that the only thing that Democrats need to do to stifle the Republican effort is merely ACCEPT AND CONCEDE to the views and adherents of that ideology? If it were only that easy!

GOP: "Here she is!"
DNC: "She's kinda okay, I guess."
GOP: "There she goes!"

Well if they wanted a judge to cause a ruckus to veer attention away from the administrations problems, they got'im. From the limited reading I've see so far on Alito he seems like pretty much the most divisive candidate they could have picked. A 55 year old strict social conservative that will sit on the bench for 30 years (influencing my grandchildren's social laws with the the moral beliefs of my grandparents, progress!) was the nightmare scenario for democrats, and they've been preparing for it. I'd expect a long, knock down fight over this one, I'm sure a decent handful of old school Republicans might join the fight as well.

So much for the whole "uniter, not a devider" thing.

The democrats are almost certain to filibuster. This will lead the Republicans to take the "nuclear option" and ban filibusters in the Senate. The democrats in turn will no longer allow shortcuts in the proceedings of the Senate, which will significantly bog down the Senate. This will in effect make it take weeks to get a single bill passed/voted on. Don't expect much more to come out of the Senate until at least the next election.
