While Acquire may appear to have embraced the Wii following last week's announcement of the next Tenchu trilogy for the system, the developer is also hard at work on the PlayStation 3. Way of the Samurai 3 is still in development at the studio to be published by Spike in Japan some time this year. Famitsu has the latest.

According to the magazine, Acquire is using the PS3 to update not only the game's visuals, but the gameplay systems as well. Primary improvements include high level AI for characters.

A new system is being worked into the game. This system lets players influence the storyline by their actions. During events, you'll occasionally see icons on-screen indicating that you can use your weapon during the event. Based on your actions, you could end up creating more enemies, so you'll have to determine when it's best to use this.

Joining the PS3 title later this year in Japan will be a PSP version of the original Way of the Samurai. Titled Way of the Samurai Portable, this port of the PS2 classic includes ad-hoc wireless play, allowing two players to make use of their favorite characters in free battle. The PSP title will include characters from Way of the Samurai 3.

Separate from the main game, PSP owners will also be treated to a trailer for the PS3 title.

Glad to here Way of the Samurai 3 is coming to PS3, just hope someone picks this up for stateside release. The series has never been about impressive graphics.

The only thing I remember about the first one is playing it and thinking the localisation was terrible. It just seemed like some dialogue made no sense in the context of other dialogue.

Is the second one better or worse than the first?

I tried for *years* to find the soundtrack for WOTS, but never managed to. :(

Graphics in WotS games are never impressive, but it looks ok. Gameplay is what I'm excited about.

I have the first one.. couldn't really get into it. But I'm willing to give 3 a shot, cause I am a fan of the series.

It sure sounds like it. :whistle2:k
Is this something like Bushido Blade on the PS1?
It's a Samurai action game, not fighting game.

I hope it comes stateside.
Is the first game worth playing? I've seen it a lot for cheap, but always assumed it sucked.
I hear it's like a 7/10 game. Some love it, some don't.

I recall it being a decent rental. I had enough fun to go back and get some of the other endings as well. But it's been years since I have played it.

I played the second and liked it. Never the first, though I wanted to but never saw it anywhere. Will probably pick this up, also still waiting for the Yakuza games if those will ever come out here again also.

I'd suggest not playing either of the first 2 wots games, they weren't very good when they came out and they sure as hell haven't aged gracefully. The basic concept is pretty nifty though, so some might get enjoyment out of that.

I just remember playing 1 and 2 like 5 or so years back and thinking "Man, this game isn't very good, but its still kinda cool I guess"

Of course it happens to come out the same week as Uncharted 2. Gonna be tough for this game to get any kind of real exposure during this mildly-busy winter season.

Wow, this thread got bumped and I apparantly already posted in it. I have had this preordered for a while now. Yea, I don't think it's going to get much exposure coming out in mid-October the same week as Uncharted 2 and pretty much between everything else. At least they get it out before the majority of the big titles like Tekken, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, etc.

I saw this listing on Gamestop and didn't really know if this was an actual date since I hadn't heard anything about it in a long time. I played all the old games in the series and will definitely be picking this one up as well.

day one purchase for me, although with Demons Souls, Uncharted, and Brutal Legend all coming out around the same time (not to mention the squillion titles already in my backlog) I have absolutely no idea when I'll get to play it.
I'd prefer Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan...
i heard this game is KICKASS. Still waiting for us version but i don't think any publisher will pick this up. Still hope ATLUS, NIS or XSeed.

If you've played the previous games in the series, you'll know what to expect from this. Fun game. I've played it more than UC2 and I got both at the same time. Having some trouble with some jobs though.
