Way to go, Kansas

Welcome back, JJ. I heard somebody got the fuck out of the OTT and damn near took you with him.

I care... :(
Let's an alternate universe.

Mykevermin dies from alcohol poisoning tonight.

On my way to Missouri tomorrow night, I drop by the Carmi Wally World to let you know and exchange high fives.

My stalker, dmaul, videotapes our meeting and then hand the tape over to Mrs. Vermin.

Mrs. Vermin is so upset that she sues me. Should she win and why?
See, here's what you're just not getting... There's a huge difference in what the law should be and what is morally right.

The law should let the douchetard do his little shitty protests.
The law *should* protect him and his right.
IMHO, if someone brings suit against him, they *should* (legally) have to pay for his court costs.

However, morally, I think someone *should* punch this douchetard in the face. With a bus. (not really.) I don't think this giving family is made up of a bunch of trouble makers and I would hate to see them put out even more over this. I do wish they would just drop it and get on with their lives - but I don't want to see them out $16,000+ over this. But this is morally. I can differentiate between a legal obligation and a moral obligation. I don't think one should necessarily equal the other.

Damn near man, damn near.

edit- I'm just saying Bob that you don't have some huge following that hangs on your every word or action. If you did then you donating to something would have a big effect on your following. If you really want to help the guy then you should, i actually support the guy personally, i just don't trust O'Reilly any further than i could throw him.

So, question, would you be okay with it if I posted "Hey, everyone, I just gave Charity X $10,000 because I believe in their mission!" since I have no dedicated following?

I'm trying not to say you're a nobody, but the truth is that none of us here have the pull to really effect what many other people do. I wouldn't care to the extent that i think you have alterior motives, i might not like the organization and might argue that they don't deserve the money, but that isn't about you, its the organization then. If Bill O'Reilly was some random nobody, i wouldn't care what the hell he did cause he wouldn't need to worry about his PR. As it is, i can't know for sure if he really supports the guy or just wants to look good to his followers.

So - should people in the public spotlight give in secret for fear someone might mistake their intentions?

The way I see it - if the father is concerned about Bill's reasons for donating the money, a "No, Thank you." is in order.

It might help, but that's their prerogative. The guy could be a fan of Bill's for all we know, plus money talks you know, most people could overlook a lot for the right amount of money.

No idea Crotch, didn't really like the show.

Most infuriating CAG?
See, here's what you're just not getting...
And back at you ...

Your donation is going to be used to attack the First Amendment.
The Supreme Court doesn't look at cases based on civil grounds, but on constitutional grounds. If the SC sides with the father, you have the groundwork for fresh new laws against the First Amendment.

If your donation was going to help this family get back on their feet AND they had no intentions of going to the SC, great.

If your donation was going towards the purchase of a hitman to exact vengeance on Westboro, it isn't the best idea, but it certainly won't set any sort of legal precedent against the First Amendment.

I understand this case is packaged very sexily. We want to root for the grieving father. We want Westboro to get hurt because they're the heels.

However, the father is a barbarian charging the gates. You and Billo want to give them an axe.

Let me make it clear that when i said i support the guy, i mean that i don't think he should have to pay the money, the whole thing should be dropped and each side pay their own costs.
