So... for those who don't know, I live very near to the little town in southern Illinois where the tornado recently struck.

I've been down there the past two days working. The damage is amazing.

Anywhoo, those outstanding folks from the Westboro Baptist Church are, apparently, coming down this weekend to "protest" the funerals of the dead.

Not really a "vs." thread, as I don't think there are many on here that would defend these folks... but I figure y'all might have some ideas to (legally) make their time here a little less inviting.

Beyond projecting gay porn on big screens and making out with another man, there's nothing you can really do if they stay behind the barricade.

Actually... I'm looking into the possibility of getting some folks with tarps to stand in front of them. I've half-jokingly looked into the possibility of projecting The Human Centipede onto their side of the tarps.

I didn't see either of them, but I think The Human Centipede 2 is supposed to be worse than 1. Maybe you could do a marathon.

I've got both, but I think a public showing of the second could end up with some kind of public indecency charges against me. It's pretty intense.

I was thinking a better route might be to show some My Little Pony. :D
Just ignore them. Why nobody does this is beyond me,
Are you talking about UB ignoring WBC or us ignoring UB?

;)

do they even go to protests anymore? all they seem to do is jump on anything newsworthy, say they are going to protest it, then after they get their name in the paper for causing a shiatstorm they decide not to go after all.

Yeah, that's what they did this time around...

Because if we ignored everyone we should then you'd have no one here to talk to but bob and knoell. ;)

Hard for people to ignore some idiots protesting at the funeral of a loved one. A lot of the intervening that gets done is to try to shield families from seeing (or at least hearing) them during the funeral proceedings--i.e. the motorcycle people who rev their engines to drown them out etc.

they didn't end up coming? I have some friends who live down that way, and they were saying that in Marion and one other town, at some of the hotels, any car with a Kansas plate was getting blocked in and had their tires slashed.

As far as I know, there was one van with KS plates parked at a hotel in Marion that ended up with slashed tires.

There was a white van with KS plates parked at the Walmart in Harrisburg and it was posted on Facebook that the tires had been slashed, but this was incorrect. According to the folks that was tasked with watching the van, plenty of people went up to it.

Turns out the van at the WM belonged to construction crew. Supposedly, the red van in Marion had WBC pamphlets in the windshield, but no one has actually confirmed that with photos, nor has anyone I've seen actually claimed to have seen them, merely "I heard from..."
