I am interesting in beginning video-game collecting as a hobby and I'm wondering if there are any good website/guides out there for getting started? (ie. what are the rare games, where to find good deals generally, etc)

Thanks!

you've pretty much found the best site out there.

DigitPress.com is best for finding out rarities, etc.. For hunting, I have good luck here, shmups.system11.org, and neo-geo.com for the types of games I "specialize" in. It really depends on what you are collecting. If it helps, I am quite knowledgeable about all 16-bit and beyond platforms, especially Sega, fighting, shmup, and tactics games. I'm sure there are some nice guys to help you here if you are more of an RPG (or other) nut.

Good luck!

you can start by buying some stuff on my tradelist :)

jk, maybe..

its never too late to start collecting. digitpress has a rarity guide.. pretty good although when you go to their store, they normally don't follow it specially for the rare games. still though, much cheaper than ebay.

there was a thread on this very same forum that had a bunch of people post their rare/uncommon games collection. you could start looking at that and have a general idea.

Digital Press is good for some of the older stuff and you can get some good info here too. The main thing is you have to decide what you want to collect. You need to break it down more than just rarity.

1. Modern or Classic stuff
2. System
3. Genre (action, rpg, adventure)
4. Rarity, quality, complete system libraries

I basically collect RPGs for any systems I can find, though I aim for snes and playstation 1&2 rpgs.

Just buy games that you want and keep an eye open for some of that harder to find stuff.
