Week of 10/7 VG Ads: Target, CC, BB

This week's ads are brought to you by your good friends at Sony. Now, a word from our sponsors:

Hello fellow gamers, it's your pals at Sony. Remember when we didn't put malware on CDs, made consoles that didn't cost more than an engagement ring (two month's salary lasts...as long as we say it does), and didn't pressure retailers to go after people who leaked ads? Remember? Yeah, we don't either, we were hoping you did.
I love how they advertise the new Nancy Drew PC game rather than the Orange Box for PC. Bravo, Target. Bravo. :applause:
99% of what you see in Sunday Ads is paid placements. Apparently Nancy Drew was willing to fork over some cash and Orange Box was not.
Nothing on the PC Orange Box....Hopefully Best Buy or Circuit City have something.
Those who want it already know it's coming so I don't see a need to advertise it.

Thanks for the early post!

I guess they're called ads for a reason
Makes sense now, ND needs advertising, OB does not.

Is this true for the MSRP items? It does make sense now that you mention it... I can't believe I never thought/realized it... >_>

Thanks for posting, beats the hell outta the Shitty.

thanks for letting us know Target isn't doing us any favors that week. Target remains as one of the worse places to find a deal on a game unless its clearanced, and other deals seem to be quite rare.

Seriously. You can only run on memories of Gears Of War for $39.99 after Christmas sale for so long.

I can remember when you could count on a new release on sale for $10 cheaper than retail on it's first week of release. You could also count on a buy 2 get 1 free sale every month or two at BB and CC. What happened to video game deals?

Are you serious? You have to remember that CAG/hardcore gamers make up a very small subset of the purchasing community, especially as far as potential Target customers getting their prices from a newspaper ad are concerned.
Even ignoring that fact, Nancy Drew games set records and debut in the top 10 consistently - it's a sure win for retailers, wheras a mature shooter is limited by content and niche.

Nancy Drew sales reference:

These games sell better than anything you or I will ever be interested in.

CC will have the PC version for $37.99.

You never noticed that when certain retailers have "hot" deals on a handful of games they tend to be from the same publisher? (ie last year, Rayman Raving Rabbids and Red Steel were $20/each in January)

Strategic alliances, PR, etc all work together. Not always paid, but definitely items appears in the ads for a reason...

So do any of those in by 2PM games at CC come w/ a $20 giftcard guarantee? That's the most important information in the ad...
Looks like CC is a yawnfest this week for PM possibilites. Oh well.
Someone doesn't like PC gaming?

Quake Wars and Orange Box are awesome, and those are great deals on both.
Someone doesn't like PC gaming?

For the PC gamer, it's not a yawnfest. For those of us that aren't PC gamers, then it is.

Someone needs to stick a :pc: by the PC games.

My info says no.
:wii: Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast - $59.99 (Available 10/9 - 2PM)
Why does it cost $10 more at Circuit City?

A deal of Orange Box for 360 would be nice. I remember they had BioShock for $50 when it first came out, how often do they do stuff like that?

Guys, I do this as fast as possible as soon as I get them. If an ad isn't up by a certain time, I either haven't been able to do it, or I haven't gotten the info yet. PM'ing me asking where the ads are aren't going to get them to you any faster. Thanks for being patient.

The Orange Box - $37.99

Wow. I knew it would be marked down fast, (CC has pretty good deals on PC games after release) but why so cheap on day one? Eh, I'm just bitter cause I've already bought it on Steam.

Curses, no deals on the new Final Fantasy Tactics or SW - Battlefront. Here's hoping that rumored 10/14 TRU deal is true.
What system is the new Final Fantasy Tactics on?
PSP - It's an upgraded port of the PSOne Final Fantasy Tactics and as of right now, I've only been able to find it at $39.99.

Okay, so CC has a deal on Orange Box for PC for $37, but I couldn't seem to find WHEN this is? When will they have this game?

It releases 10/10.

ugggghhhhh, lets put everything at retail, that'll set us apart from everyone else! Great idea! Yea I know its not the best business sense to put things on sale but this streak of terrible weeks for ads is getting too long for me!

Umm...

If you are making only $300 a month, less than $75 a week, maybe you shouldn't be asking someone to marry you. Of course making that little money I'll be amazed if you can get a date with someone who isn't a whore.

I think Sony is run by idiots too, but that's just not funny at all.

It's a joke. Grow a sense of humor.

Why is the Darth Vader PSP white?

Don't get me wrong I rather have a white PSP than a black one but I can't buy a white Vader.
