Welfare pays more than a lot of jobs....
My problem is that their is very little to no incentive to work an $8/hr job anymore.

The government has taken that incentive away. I agree that most people don't want to be on welfare but I think it is safe to say that people would rather collect then work minimum wage.

If you disagree then please enlighten me by informing me about the benefits of working 2,000 hours a year at $8/hr versus not working and collecting.
You need to expand on this. You're making accusations about large numbers of people in a variety of situations. Are you specifically talking about married couples, single mothers, people with no kids, what?
I didn't know you were on welfare. Are you in one of the states paying the equivalent of $12/hr?

Any recommendations on how I can get it too?
Wait, GBAstar is on welfare?

I enjoy watching egostar getting spanked concurrently over several threads. Also; notice when taxing rich people 300k per year is barely getting by, when discussing government aid 25k becomes high living.
egofed - selective facts don't make arguments accurate when those "facts" are combined with complete bullshit. For example:
"The 2011 median household income was $50,054, or $137.13 per each day of the year. Assuming the breadwinner of this average household is an hourly employee working 40 hours a week and 50 weeks a year, that would put his pay scale at a shade over $25 an hour. Subtract withholding taxes and that wage-earner takes home about $22 for each hour worked."
- median household income DOES NOT EQUATE TO the breadwinner making $25/hr.
Are you living in the 1950's? The average household has TWO people earning wages. TWO WORKERS COMBINED MAKE 50K A YEAR IN THE USA. After a divorce the newly single mother with a couple of kids is in poverty. Plain and simple.
So someone on welfare gets the equivalent of more money per day than TWO people working? This somehow weakens the argument? If anything, it strengthens it. Stay at home and make more than 2 suckers actually working?!?

"Spanked"? Where are the facts disproving what I've posted? I see only lame liberal whining, attacks, and misdirection. You gotta be joking...
Since we're all about the FACTS up in this bitch, I see 2 HUGE fuck ups in the minimum wage earners' chart and strongly suspect that there are at least 2 more.

As for the first link, you do realize that you're one of those moochers that works for the government right?

Where the hell is nasum to cut through this bullshit?
Please point them out. I'll attempt to contact the writer myself if the info is incorrect.

As far as moochers, not everyone can work for the gov't. I can't call out a problem in the system just because I'm in it? What do you do again, doh? You like to attack my occupation, please share yours so that we can have a proper impression of where you are coming from. Thanks.

There are 11 itemized variables in the chart. Maybe you should learn about them before you toss them out there as "FACTSOMG!!111!!11OnE!" that support your argument. The entire article plays semantic word games and fuzzy math. If you bothered to even notice one single error, and there are three huge ones, I would've been more than happy to fill you in on the rest, but no, you'd rather have someone else do your homework. The FACT that you can't spot them shows how far removed you are from the situation and environment of those that actually utilize some of those programs even with your very limited interaction with them.

No one's "attacking" your occupation, smart guy. That's just your persecution complex showing and an attempt to strawman me. If I was attacking your occupation, I'd be complaining about how lazy ALL firefighters are and how they're sponges on our society for getting paid to sleep and shit post on internet forums.

My beef is that you have the mentality of "the only justifiable welfare is MY welfare." You want all the benefits that your job security and union bring, but none of the responsibilities and you'd rather have other people get fucked if they want the same types of benefits that work just as hard, if not harder than you do, for far less pay. I couldn't care less if you were a police officer, a fireman, a union worker, on welfare, disabled, a student, or worked at Walmart. "fuck you; Got mine" pretty much sums you up and I wouldn't even have a problem with it if you were up front about it and kept it at that. But no, you wrap it in "MAH TAXES!!" and "WELFARE QUEENZ!!" while talking about the virtues of your religion a second later with a straight face while never grasping the contradictions. You're a model for cognitive dissonance.

Where I'm coming from is pretty fucking clear and it doesn't matter if I make $1 a year or $10,000,000 a year. If you can't figure out "where I'm coming from" or that I have to have some sort of "angle" as to why I think the way I do, then the problem isn't me. As someone employed in a fire department, you, of all people, should be able to understand that.

My welfare?!?! So a salary I receive and the city offered for a 52 hour/week job is now WELFARE? WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Thank God for my gov't overlords taking pity on me.....wait, I could receive close to maybe more in pay and benefits by NOT running into a burning house or lifting 400 pound patients? Most of those patients are on this "free" welfare? Wha? Darn, I've been doing this welfare thing ALL wrong!!!:lol:

Way to dodge out of all my inquiries, also. You are such a joke....

You couldn't muster up the effort to google up how some of those line items work, but you have the energy to rant about me using the loosest definition of "welfare" that you, yourself, used in this very thread? Do I really seem that dumb to you? And then you blame ME for being evasive?

52 hours you say? Is that 3 on 3 off? How many of those hours do you spend sleeping? How many hours do get on break? How much of that wage is from forcibly taken tax dollars that you're rallying against from that other thread?

You want to know what I do for work? Well lets put it this way: you get at least $50k more than me in "stolen" tax payer money cause I get none.

Now that we've gotten that outta the way, how about you get cracking on those line items.
How do I go about getting on welfare?
quit your job
just keep having kids
and then get on tv and bitch and cry that noone cares that your 15 kids are going hungry when in fact the stupid bitch knew could not afford the first 14 the bitch had

what is sort of funny is i probally could get welfare and then some other crap cause according to websites i have Schizophrenia and never knew it

Irritable or tense feeling

Trouble concentrating

Trouble sleeping

As the illness continues, you may have problems with thinking, emotions, and behavior, including:

Bizarre behaviors

Hearing or seeing things that are not there (hallucinations)

Isolation

Lack of emotion (flat affect)

Problems paying attention

Strongly held beliefs that are not real (delusions)

Thoughts that "jump" between different topics (“loose associations”)

hell i got most of those i been seeing crap and hearing stuff that wasnt there since high school and had around 200 friends in middle school down to around 4 in high school cause i kept to myself......

i like the voices in my head and images i see :)

Well, It seems to me that the majority of American Citizens fail to realize is that the Gov wants everybody dependant on welfare, and it does'nt matter how much $$$ anyone in the US gets paid, the money is printed out of thin air and is virtually worthless. People only use it because they're forced to and that's all they've known thier whole lives. If a child was raised to think that red was blue, they would surely think it was blue
Your thoughts are very original.
Truth doesn't have to be original;). Though, I think the gov't only wants enough of the population on "non-working" status welfare to insure election results. The rest of us actually produce the goods and services needed, so just enough dependence to make sure that we would have second thoughts about uprising. "I'd lose my medical coverage, my phone, or my social security? Forget freedom, I NEED THOSE!" We have given up freedom for comfort in this country. It's human nature, so don't feel bad:). Though political power seems cyclic, it'll be interesting to see what has to happen to put the Republicans back in the White House. (though, like in VA, they want more taxes and less freedom just as bad as the Democrats).

I heard the government also doesn't want a majority of the population to learn the difference between ensure and insure either. It's a conspiracy. C-O-N... spiracy.

Everyone needs to stop listening to idiots on tv and the radio and read a damn book. Preferably fiction.

Somehow that all makes sense to you. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that a conservative government employee has trouble with coherent thought.

Hahahhaahha....believe it or not, I do know the difference. I was having a discussion about insurance in another thread and screwed it up. Sorry.

The coherent thought, Msut77, is that career politicians are living high on the hog off of tax payer money, not even through their salaries, but off of all the perks and bennies of their positions. Do you know how much presidential vacations cost us? Private jets, fresh flowers everyday, alcohol and expensive foods....none of it comes from their salaries. And what about their sweetheart healthcare and pension plans? I say do away with ALL that. Let's try and get people who truly want to govern because they have a desire to make things better, not just because its a super comfy occupation that'll ENSURE;) that you are set for life. They are living rich like successful business people, but without the successful part. ;) They are screwing us.....
This thread has the same level of intelligence as any given Yahoo comment right now.
So you are okay with the amount of money the U.S. spends on welfare related services? Or perhaps you think we should spend more?

Do you support how easy it is to get assistance or do you think it should be easier? Do you think it is an "assault on the poor" to require a photo id when spending food stamps?

And try to refrain from talking about our defense or education budget because I am not in agreement with how much we spend in those areas either.
Do you support how easy it is to get assistance or do you think it should be easier?
What a very straightforward question. You're not leading the witness or anything...

I wonder if ego's pay was suddenly lowered due to government cutbacks, how long it would be before he started bitching about it. Actually lets go even further, if he was let go completely due to cutbacks. That's what I find so dishonest about him in general, that he wants government to spend less money, yet locally, he's on the government dole. It doesn't matter if it's welfare payments or pay for your work, it's still government spending money. Perhaps one day some of your local citizens will decide you're paid too much. Damn lazy firefighters sucking on the government teat I say. ;)

lol... I got my taxes done this weekend, our tax preparer told me that she had a customer that was complaining about her return on government money, all $9,000 of it.

heheheheh...you and doh both like this argument. I know you guys dislike "cognitive dissonance", so I just want to make sure that you realize that I have a start time at my job and expected responsibilities...like waking up in the middle of the night and climbing around on a roof to cut a hole, oh, by the way, the house is on fire;). I can't sit at home and collect a check. Comparing expenditures on welfare to public safety is not quite "honest". I complain about poor uses of tax payer money with little to no results that actually benefit the tax payers.
If I'm laid off, then I'll get another job. The stock market has been pretty kind to me lately:applause:. My brother makes over $100K in sales and is always trying to pull me in that direction. There is a LOT of waste in public safety that I see. A lot of it in the fire dept is because of....drum roll....diversity hiring and affirmative action. We have women who can't carry a 150lb dummy, and guys who refuse to climb ladders for goodness sake:roll:, but you CAN'T FIRE THEM. Thanks Union! You da best!

I hear about this all the time. Is it true you get can get a refund without paying any federal taxes?

I know families that divide their children out to local relatives to claim so that they can get the extra $2,000 (per child) for supposedly providing support. Their is a cap on the amount of benefits you can get from that program so after you reach the cap you have other people claim the children and then share the money.

The tax forms do not require that you submit proof that the child lived with you or that you actually supported it.

HAhhahah...we had a couple cases in my area years ago of welfare recipients sharing babies on the days that social workers were scheduled for check ups. Finally, one of the workers recognized the same kids and blew the whistle. It's amazing how ingenious scam artists can be, but it sounds like our tax system doesn't even require any effort other than not working and popping out some kids:drool:.
