Ok,
I love my job so far, i just started last week.

They're clearing out their PSX/N64 stuff, and I got first dibs on all the games I wanted. I picked up Paper Mario (complete), MegaMan 64(complete), Goldeneye)complete), Silent Hill 1(just the manual), and Marvel Vs. Capcom(just the manual), they were priced 1.99 each, I get 15% off anything in-store, so yeah. I love my job. lol.

Good job on the Paper Mario, other than that...meh. Oh and please tell me you didn't pay for the manuals for the two ps1 games.

I think he ment just manuals, as in game and manual no box. Damn you're lucky, i can never find a decent N64/snes/playstation game used.

I wouldn't really say you got first dibs... they've been clearanced out for like a year. You're just lucky no one apparently buys classic games at your store.

Im sure you will change your tune about BB the first time they schedule you to work on a holiday since they are open 365 days a year...

True. Get out now, while you still can. The company sucks ass to work for.

have you worked retail before? it sucks. I would guess it's even worse at Blockbuster, seeing as they open until midnight.

nice score on Paper Mario.

Nope, the store I work at isn't part of the big chain. It's a franchise store and pretty much have nothing to do with the rest of them.

Anyways, the ps1 games only came with a manual and the disc... wtf, why would i just buy manuals? thats stupid.

annnd I would like to work holidays, i hate my family and dont want to be around them, so its a good excuse not to see them.

tadaaah.

i worked for 5 years at Toys R Us. i had a blast, almost right up 'til the end. i worked at a great store, and looked forward to working every day. i'm a surveyor now, which pays WAAAYY more and has much better hours, but i still miss working at TRU.

Enjoy it my friend. These little 'perks' won't matter when you have a customer screaming about a $1.25 restocking fee for a movie they kept for 2 months since there is 'No Late Fees'.
how old do you have to be to work at BB?
18 (at least it is CA, but I believe that is national, not just CA)

Yes it does, I worked 2 years there. Started at $6.50 and ended at $8.20. what garbage. Oh and the discount used to be 20%, that sucks that they lowered it.

The absolute worst was when that "No Late Fee" thing started. I had to repeat that ish so many times, I think I'll know that policy for the rest of my life.

*Edit:
After giving it thought, working at a franchise store is probably way better then the corporate store I worked at.

Shit, that's good. I've worked at a movie theater for over three years and only make $7 and hour. :hot:

I just proceed to tell them (in the most gentle way) to shut the **** up and get out or pay the money. The job is great for one thing, first dibs on everything. That is all.

I've been at TRU for about a year and a half and I loved the job, until I realized the manager isn't qualified for the job. He has unrealistic goals and wants 150% out of everyone 200% of the time. And the real kicker is his refusal to promote from within. The last two world leaders he hired had no retail experience at all, and turned out they had been long time friends with him.

I'm quitting as soon as my wife starts her new job.

I worked at Blockbuster from May 2004-October 2004, when they had to close this location. They had a manager who was stealing money from them left and right, he'd ring up movies, credit the account, and pocket the money. Sad thing is they told me they' were going to make me a manager two weeks before they told us they were going to close the store. I started at 7.50 an hour. Ahh well, I'm making 8 at Lowes right now

Be grateful. Most likely if the manager had gotten 'caught' he would have used you as a scapegoat and blamed you for the missing money.

That's about a 12.5% annual raise. Did you move up in position? If you didn't, that kind of rocks. Most people in this economy are lucky to get 3% raises.

Yep, my last two raises have been 3 and 4%. Of course, the second year I was here I got 8%, so that has helped every year since then.

Yeah, I did get a raise. That job was way relaxed before they started "Project Store" and assigned people positions through the night. One of the positions was to walk around asking people if they need anything and then telling them what the deals were tonight. That was the absolute worst job ever, 95% of the time no one cared and didn't want to be bothered (obviously.)

My current job is awesome, I work at a Comic store where I started at $6.50. Now I'm making $8.50 and I've only been there for a little over a year.

i started out doing reshop over season back in '96. i left that store soon after and found a different job. then in '98, i got hired back by TRU at a different location, and went from sales associate to Dept. Head (you probably don't remember when TRU had those), with a $1 raise. i then got busted down to SA again when they phased out DHs, but got promoted again after the C3 remodel, to World Leader (stupidest title EVER, at least in context). i enjoyed a handful of very nice raises.

i ran the RZone for about 3 years and it kicked full-on ass, until they decided they didn't want to pay us lifers $14.00 an hour any longer, when they could hire in from the outside and pay the new World Leaders $9/hr. so about 7-8 employees got the boot over a space of 3-4 weeks and that was that. the store was never the same. i go in there now, since there's about 3 people there that i still know, but it's not a very fun place anymore. after the buyout, TRU seems destined to piston straight into bankruptcy.

The Manager did get caught, he's the reason they had to close the store.. The store was losing money already, but other stores were making up for it so they kept it open orginally. The manager took too much though, that couldn't be made up, so they closed the store

It's the opposite at my store. There are 'lifers' that have been with the store for 10+ years, and these new world leaders were actually hired in making more. One of the long-timers quit just over a month ago and has been replaced by another no-experience friend of the store manager. I give it another month before grievances start flying against the manager and the poop really hits the fan.

What do you do for Lowes? Loader? I work for them too, in delivery, and make about $3/hr more, but have to work 10 to 14hr days.
