Admittedly, I shouldn't have accepted bids from new people, but still...
I'm past the mad phase, and just kind of wondering why now.
It was for an iPhone 3G, by the way.

It could be a competitor seller screwing with your listing or trying to increase the perceived value of the item perhaps.

No, it's someone who sends a payment from a stolen paypal account/stolen credit card. Then you ship the phone and paypal cancels the initial payment. They get a free phone, you get screwed.
 
Why didn't you cancel their bids? I always put "no bidders with 0 feedback" in my auctions, but there are always one or two that bid anyway.
