No Gears of War Expansion for 360
PC gamers assured exclusive goods.
by Hilary Goldstein

July 26, 2007 - Gears of War is on its way to PC with some new missions and a map editor. The question on the minds of every Xbox 360 owner is whether or not these additions will make their way to Microsoft's console. In an interview with IGN PC, Epic's Lead Designer Cliff Bleszinski and Gears PC Producer Rod Fergusson dashed the dreams of millions of fans.

"There is no plan to provide the PC exclusive content to Xbox 360 gamers for a number of technical reasons," Fergusson told IGN. "One is simply the size and scope of the new content which would be difficult to deliver as an update. But more importantly, Gears of War for Windows was not created with the same version of Unreal Engine 3 as Gears of War for 360. We wanted to take advantage of all the latest and greatest optimizations and features that are constantly being added to UE3 and as such, this new content is not easily compatible with the Xbox 360 version."

PC gamers will have the benefit of playing some new story missions. One of these pits them against the almighty Brumak. What the eff is a Brumak? It's the massive "monster tank" that you ran from in Gears of War 360, but never fought. Well, on PC, you will go toe-to-toe with the Brumak.

Exclusive to PC: Serious ass-kicking!
Many who played Gears were disappointed that they never had the chance to face off with the Brumak. "Way back in the day we had hoped to fight the Brumak on the Xbox 360," Cliffy B said. "But once we did our first schedules for the original title it became obvious that the beast would have to wait for later... Now, thankfully, he's able to be revealed in his full prime."

Gears of War PC does not feature cross-platform play between 360 and PC. But what about the chance for cross-platform multiplayer battles in the itching-to-be-announced Gears of War 2? Fergusson gave an expectedly coy response to our query: "I'm sorry, I've never heard of that game.

Although they also said GOW wouldnt come out on PC, so they could really just be saying this as not to deter sales from the PC version.

Shit, looks like I need to hang onto my 360 copy of Gears so I can still play against CAGs...

still, I'm obviously getting the PC version too for the hella new content and better graphics.
No big deal. I'd rather get the game a year earlier and miss out on a few maps.
Also, the console version has some perks of it's own ya know. I enjoyed playing it on a 50 in. HDTV for example. Another perk is that you know it will run well on your $400 machine. You don't have to worry about upgrading your already expensive PC to play yet one more game that just needs a little bit more power.
Cliffy's not one to deny money, it'll be remade and released for the 360.
As a part of Gears of War 2 special edition maybe...

It's not as if making it would guarantee him profit - sure, it'd sell, but there are dev. costs involved. I'm sure they'd make more money for their time by getting started on Gears 2, than they would in working on releasing an expansion pack for Gears 1 on 360.

I hope this content still finds its way to the 360 and sells very well. Even though I'm going to play this game on the PC, I think additional single player content is the most underused, best part, of XBLM.

Imagine if Fable was on the 360 and you could download Lost Chapters levels every 2-3 months for $10 each? I would eat that up. But unfortunately every piece of content seems to be multiplayer maps.

Edit: I love that GOW 2 quote. Q: "Are you doing stuff with Gears 2?" A: "I've never heard of that game."

I think they'll release it eventually, but for now they're obligated to say they're not. Why shoot themselves in the foot and not get people to spend another $50? Make them buy the game, then about a month or two later say that it's going to be released as downloadable content with 200 more achievement points.

They also said that additional content would be free and MS made them charge for it with the last set of maps, they won't become free until September at which point they'll be something like 4 or 5 months old.

The third option would be to release a Gears of War Platinum Hits version with the additional stuff on it. That way they get us to buy it once, well, most of us and then they get us to buy it again plus even more buyers.
PC games blow. I havent bought one since.....Halo: Combat Evolved over 3 years ago.
So you wouldn't really... know that they still suck.
No big deal. I'd rather get the game a year earlier and miss out on a few maps.
And twice the story and a level editor. Not that we would get the level editor.

This sucked at first but now I'm over it. Can't exactly afford a really nice PC to play it as smooth as the 360 version plays...so...

And Halo: Combat Evolved for PC was terrible. Tons of better PC games out there.
they could also do a MGS-type expansion. Call it Gears of War: Locust Eater and release it with a $60 price tag.
I lol'd.

I liked Gears a lot when I got a 360 first game I got. Played it a lot don't know the last time I played it. I never even beat the last 2 skill levels. So yea it sucks but that game will be old by then.

Well, theres a steady decline of 360 players on GOW.their reaching out to a new audiance. And why put it out on the 360 when so many bigger titles are comin out this summer/fall. Why waste money and time. PC has a growing fanbase. Therefor more money. but it'd be nice for a new 360 upgrade. if your desprate for it, buy the PC version.
