We've Got it (XBOX360 pic)

what has gamespot thinking its real is told in the latest rumor control

As the week began, a photo began to circulate around the Web which purported to be of the next-generation Xbox. Looking like a game-geek version of the famed Loch Ness Monster photo, the blurry image showed a slim silver-gray console on its side, PlayStation 2-style with a GameCube-like curved handle. It also had a distinct "X" logo on the side with a 360-degree circle at its center. While some dismissed the device as a modded PC case, others felt that they had seen it somewhere before. That's because they had. Last September, an image was reportedly leaked from a Microsoft focus group, one of which was called the "Xbox FS." Since the name rumored to stand for "F*** Sony," many people laughed off the silver-gray image that accompanied it. However, when flipped on its side and put next to this week's photo (pictured), the two are clearly the same machine--a machine very much like one with a "concave center" described in recent reports in the British games press. But perhaps the most convincing proof came in the form of an image from the teaser site Ourcolony.net. The site, which has been linked to Microsoft and has "leaked" images of what appears to be Xbox 360 controllers, released a photo of what looks like a console with the a silver-gray finish and a disc tray in the same place as the concept image and leaked photo. One last bit of circumstantial evidence is that at the new MTV trailer for the Xbox's unveiling ends with the Xbox's new logo--against a gray, not black, background.
weve already determined that picture is a phony, this one is still valid
The other is not a phony, it is a top runner. Dd anyone see the picture form ourcolony? I'll post it here...

THEN YOU HAVE THE DESIGN FLOATING AROUND YESTERDAY

NOW YOU HAVE THIS PICTURE

Note all the similarities between the 3. Sources are teamxbox, spong, engadget, and gizmodo.

Spong confirmed that it is the final design, and teamxbox says they are confident it is the design that will show at E3.

holy shit!
is that last one an ourcolony picture
That's the XBox 2 development kit (first and last pics).. the middle one is what it is rumored to look like.

More pics of the development kit here: http://www.macned.nl/news.php?id=1835

It also clearly confirms Xenon to be the name.

it only confirms the code name, which its been all along, and gamespot stated they would not use the codename on retail

The last pic is the same as the second pic :) And the first pic is from ourcolony rumored to be of the hdd expansion bay, doesn't look like an apple G5 to me (that is what MS used as the devkit HEHEHE).

so it must be it

I hate the design in the first post. Looks like a plastic toy briefcase, not a next-gen gaming system. It completely goes against the name 360, considering it's a flat square. I prefer the design slimpip posted.

well we figured out that the xbox2 is going to be one or the other, slims pic, or mine, and lets just say im rooting for slims

Why did you change the name of the post? "We've got it (XBox 360 pic)? We don't have shit. We've got a fake picture, a possible concept design, and a picture of the Xenon developmental kit..

If you take a look at the pictures at the link you posted, the pictures posted prior by slimpip are clearly NOT the Xenon development kits. The dev kits are modified Power Macs. The pictures that slimpip posted, at least the first and last one that look real, are clearly not of the development kits, since they are not full computer towers.

Why would you use a sales pitch? We're not selling anything, but if we were, we still wouldn't have it.. it'd be a bait and switch :p

well it needed a name change since people who have already seen the pic, would need to know that there is another pic
In the first post, it looks so much like a Gamecube.
yeah thats what the gamespot article said

Its actually a new system by Sony that they're calling Xbox 360 just to piss Microsoft off. Crazy, huh?

Wow 40GB harddrive. I wonder how much that'll cost. And i agree with chrislee this thing looks like a toy but I'll bet that if it receives the same comments at E3 M$ will change the design. (a la Nintendo DS)

400 is the going price, with a 300 dollar base model, with no BC or HD
Maybe MS is intentionally releasing all these pics and names to foster interest?
I wouldn't be surprised.

THere is going to be a 30 minute intro to the XBox 360 in May on MTV.

Regarding these pictures from the magicbox.com ( a reputable site IMO )

- UNCONFIRMED: Here are some images of the next generation Xbox console, tentatively named Xbox 360, the images are unconfirmed. The images indicate that Xbox 360 can be placed horizontally or vertically like the PlayStation 2, there are two memory card slots, and the system seems to use wireless controllers instead of traditional wired controllers.

- RUMOR: IGN reported a list of launch titles for Microsoft's Xbox 360, which includes:

* Perfect Dark Zero (Microsoft / Rare)
* Project Gotham Racing 3 (Microsoft)
* Test Drive (Atari)
* Need for Speed Underground 3 (EA)
* Burnout (EA / Criterion)
* New Racing Game (Namco)

- RUMOR: In addition, Microsoft plans to launch Xbox 360 with 15 - 20 titles, including a revised Halo 2.5, which features high resolution graphics, 720p, wide-screen support. Halo 2.5 is supposed to be a bundled title with the hard drive add-on.

While aesthetically similar (color scheme, meshwork), as others have said, the development kits are Mac G5 comps.

specstop06082004.jpg

I'm fairly convinced that the design shown here is the Xbox 360 (but that's pretty meaningless, truth be told). As a mac user, I'm giddy that MS uses Power Macs as dev kits (and the fact that 360 is a heavily modified Mac); in practical terms, it has made backwards compatibility such a pain in the ass that I wonder if it was worth it.

myke.
...how do people feel about limited backward compatibility (some games might not function properly, or at all)?

i feel pissed mike, though why would microsoft use a competitors's(hardly competition)product

ALSO: I have already proved that picture is fake
drivefont.jpg

that is not a real engraved drive, it was layered through photoshop

Well, Microsoft has 49% equity in Apple, so they aren't strictly competition (though the cynics claim that MS did so to keep Apple afloat, and to help their cause against the antitrust suit they began undergoing at the time).

Perhaps the chipset for 360 is more powerful, or cheaper (or a combination of the two). The truth is, I have no idea why.

myke.

wow didnt now that microsoft would do such a thing, UPS did the same thing, lending money to FedEx, as per my dad who works for UPS

Five racing games?
racing games can be good, sometimes... but 5? that's overdoing it...

If they were smart they'd do 1 FPS, 1 Racing, 1 RTS, 1 RPG, and 1 Platform
I may be wrong, but I can't think of many consoles that launch with RPGs. Can anyone think of any?

myke.
...I f'n hate racers, so I'm not pleased. I sure hope someone is.

A new image off of ourcolony for you guys to gander at :)

3737115xs.jpg

Some speculation from Xbox-Scene:

OurColony.net, an Alternate Reality Game that is (probably) a Microsoft marketing campaign building up to the launch of the next generation Xbox (like Ilovebees was for Halo2), today released another picture to the teams that answered the last challenge correctly.

The picture, taken upside-down, is probably a memorycard inside the Xbox360 memorycard slot. You can see the slot matches the slots showed on the Xbox360 design renders posted friday.
Also note the "64^" written on the memcard ... which is probably 64MB - the size of memcard (or one of the sizes - it's not excluded there will be several memcard sizes).

Of course this image might not show the final hardware, the ourcolony ARG is all about teasers and buidling up the suspense... I can imagine the final memcard will have atleast a nicer color and sticker on the back.
