What are some must have PS1 games?

I never had a PS1 but I hear it had many good games. I suppose that these games are quite cheap now so I was thinking of picking a few up for my PS2. So what are some PS1 games that I should buy? Thank you very much for your help.

EDIT: I don't want any Final Fantasy games.
 
Ape Escape, Einhander, Driver, GT 1 and 2, Tomba 1 and 2, Hot Shots Golf 1 and 2, and there's much more, but these are the ones off the top of my head.
 
Thank you guys for the help thus far. One small question however; Would it be wise to pick up Parappa the Rapper, or should I get Parappa the Rapper 2 instead? Thank you very much.

I have the PC verson of MGS and I have the redone GameCube version, so I am not sure if I want to get it again for the PS. Are there any differences between the PC and PS versions?
 
Thank you for that list RelentlessRolento. It was very helpful. I am a huge fighting game fan so I will probably pick up Tekken 3 and DOA. I completely forgot about Crash and Spyro, thank you for reminding me.
 
You mention Legend of Legia, and not Suikoden, Star Ocean, Dragon Warrior and the other piles of great PS1 RPGs?

Parappa the Rapper was IMO a MUCH better game than Parappa 2. The sequel seemed forced, the story somewhat uninteresting, and just didn't have that "thing" that makes a game great - whereas the first one had it in spades. Also a a few fantastic platformers that have gone unmentioned here so far...Klonoa and the Tomba! series.

EDIT: I just checked out GameStop.com and Parappa the Rapper costs $20.99 while Parappa the Rapper 2 is only $12.99 :shock:.
 
Didn't they do a recent rerelease of Einhander? I agree though, excellent shooter, a must have.

The Megaman Legends games were fun especially the prequel with Tron Bonne.

I'm pretty sure they didn't do a rerelease. We all would have heard about. Great game though. Definitley one of the top 10 games on the PS1. Einhander for teh loife.

Those are the two PS1 games you NEED! Lunar: SSSC is my favorite game of all time, as many around here already know... :D

Dude, i got einhander yesterday for 13 bucks at gamecrazy. The great thing is that the game looks like it has never been played! MINT CONDITION.

I think the sales guy said that some guy was trading unopened games and that he had to open a couple of them.

That's quite a find. I had to trade an arm and a leg for mine.

i liked the crash bandicoot games and also there is a snowmobile game called snow storm thats pretty good too :lol:
