What are the requirements to work at Gamestop?

Since when can ANYONE walk into Digipen?
Digipen is hardly known for the rigor of it's application process.
Provided it's minimum requirements are even lower than most state schools. It's hardly a prestigious institution.

And by the way, he didn't PAY to get in.
Unless he's on a full ride scholarship including room, board and all textbooks, yes, he is paying.

My "school you bitches" was reserved for the assholes (once again - YOU) who were seriously ripping on all people who work there.

It's not all employees. Just most of them. Considering your attitude, I'd consider you to exist in one group, and your ambitious friend in the other.

I sincerely don't hope you speak on behalf of the entire CAG community. Because it would just make this a sad place to be.

Kind of like where you work, huh?

wow...i was gunna tell kefka to stop being such a cockface...but anything id say would just pale in comparison to jsweeney's emasculation of him.

Cockface. Ha.

You do have a few good points, ukhoops.

Just because some of you have had bad experiences at EB/Gamestop does not make them all bad. It seems to go in regions. Certain areas are much better than others. From what I have seen, the larger metropolitan areas seem to be worse than the smaller ones. This is from 1st had experience with both EB and Gamestop.

You're exactly right. It's probably the corporate culture that exists in certain areas. If the DM doesn't do his job well, neither will his underlings, and this will begin to show at the retail level.

No one should really be so general in their statements as all companies have good/bad stores and good/bad employees.

I think there really is an unspoken, tacit understanding of that.
Most people know that there actually are good stores and good employees at some of the stores. Unfortunatly, that seems to be the exception and not the norm.

Just keep an open mind when you go to an new town/city because you might just be surprised as to what you will find in the local Gamestop or EB there.

Of course. There's an EB by me that is staffed by some of the most helpful people. Despite the fact that they are more expensive at times than other stores, I'll go to them and pay the extra few dollars just because the service is so good.

God knows there are many, many BB and CC that suck ass worse than any EB or GS and they never seem to get bashed like EB and GS do.

Big box stores are a little different though... you don't expect the same type of service... if a big store doesn't have a good grasp on it's stock (not knowing if something is in stock, accidentally overselling preorders, etc) it's not as vexing as if it were a small retail storefront.
I'm willing to give up a degree of personal service for a somewhat lower price.
That's one of the reasons I dislike some Gamestops... I'm not about to pay a premium for shoddy service.

lol, the Gamestop in Madison has nothing but dicks working at it. I went there today and it just reminded me how much i hate all the people who work there.
repetske, since you're the only one giving honest answers, maybe you can help me out with something. I've tried applying at both EB and GS and called them about my app. Everything goes fine until the game knowledge, which I just put that knowledge in suggestions for games, knowledge in consoles, keeps up with the news, etc. and they tell me that's not what they're looking for.

What would be the best selection of choices that I should put down when I reapply?
I think there is probably something else that makes them think you wouldn't be a good fit in the store as I think your answers sound fine. In my years working in game retail, most of our hires were customers in the store. Sadly, most people pretty much had the job before even applying based on their appearance, speech, and just overall way of dealing with people. Defender gave some great tips about what stores look for.

I would say the main thing is to actually make sure they are hiring and if not, putting an application in only puts you in a pile of other applicants that will only be flipped through once they have an opening. Just keep in touch with the store and always be nice when dealing with them. Good luck with your search as well.

Thanks for the kind words Xboxmaster. Hopefully you always knew we would give you a straight answer and loved the underdog games and systems. I think the main reason I liked my job so much was that it felt good to have customers come in and actually ask my opinion about a game because they trusted my recommendations. I think the best employees provide customers with the information to make informed decisions and only provide opinions when asked for them.

I would agree it is regions...because the Eb at my local mall has pretty much good people...One of my friends used to manage the gamestop at the same mall and when he was there the place was packed with shoppers because his krew was well mannered...Now its just ran by hot ass girls...hehe anyway....Isnt this supposed to be What does gamestop look into for hiring and not experiences in gamestop?? Doesnt this all come down to if the store needs to hire employees? this might be only me but I went into a ebgames today to pick up KOF 02/03 and ZOE 2. I just did a huge trade in using TRU...I talked to him for bit and he offered me a job because he was short employees....??i guess thats situational...But isnt that the reason why most places do hire because of worker shortage??
For one JSweeney, nice of you to assume alot about EVERYTHING. Since you know it all, including me.

Promptness, neatness and experience? Gamestop really does only care about a pulse. If you don't have those first two things, you don't have a job ANYWHERE. Experience? Have you seen how many 16-18 year olds work there?

I didn't say I hate the customer. I hate the dickheads (ala You). If you work at a place where the employees are complete dicks or mindless idiots you'll hate it. Beuuase the environment you work in is a small amount of real estate. I've had some jobs with real bad co-workers. Not a good thing.

You'll find "mouth-breathing morons" at ANY retail chain if you've walked into more than one. The point is that if you've got one bad Gamestop, that doesn't make us all morons.

Retail is hell. It's called working through college dickhead. You got a problem? Gamestop in IL. If you're anywhere close, I'll tell you where to find me so I can stomp your ass.
Where at in IL?

Very nice. I must say I'm impressed.
I have a feeling you've moved on for bigger and better things, repetske, but much of the industry would be much better served if the employees conducted themselves in the manner you do (and suggest to).

That would probably depend on store volume, since the store manager would likley be alloted a number of hours, and then divide that between his staff.
Usually, He/she will pull 40 right off the top for themselves to maintain thier full time status, and then start dividing from there based on seniority.
Considering that you'd be the low man on the food chain, you'd like fewer hours than the rest, and in the timeslots they didn't want to work.

While I don't know the exact numbers for what gamestop pays, I'd figure you'd likely make in the ballpark of 50-200 dollars weekly, depending on how many hours they give you, and depending on what the minimum wage is in the state you live in

I'm 22 and they offered me 6 dollars an hour for seasonal work. I declined the job, but they weren't going to hire me as they had someone else in mind anyway.
