What are you giving up for Lent?

Spirituality is one of the greatest things that us as humans have. If you truly believe in a mind body and soul (such as I do) then a cleansing and focus of the soul is one of the best things a person can do for oneself. Can you honestly say you are content and proud of the person you are?? Becoz even with the accomplishment of many goals and achievements there will always be some kind of emptiness or lack of happiness within you. Things like that can only be found within, and discipline is one of the best ways to go towards doing that.

Your not going to give me a pamphlet then ask to come in my house to speak about the "lord Jesus Christ" are you?

While I think Lent is kinda silly in the sense that it's a systematic incentive for Catholics to be practicing discipline, at the very least it's there and people are doing it!!

It's just that, I find it a complete joke when I hear about people who give up dumb things like soda... obviously the system isn't too effective.
Can you possibly give up posting?
What would happen if someone gave up catholicism for lent?
You lose out on that little cracker at church.
Congratulations. You just explained why humanity had to make up religion.
in a way, kind of. Religion is a way of channeling and getting comfortable with one's spirituality, usually by a promise of a life after death or via devotion of a higher being. If that's how ppl want to do it, by all means go for it.
Your not going to give me a pamphlet then ask to come in my house to speak about the "lord Jesus Christ" are you?
did I ever mention Jesus??? I know buddhists and muslims who do the same shit, christianity has nothing do with it.

Obviously I am not the only person who has given up on organized religion, but it's because I believe in knowledge of self far more than blind faith. Likewise, it's my lack of a religion that makes me feel so strongly towards the way I see life and how I apply my experiences to it. You may have to forgive me for that. Regardless, we all have our vices, and you know it. If you want to think that's it's dumb for people to take the incentive and ease up on their guilty habits, and label them as suckers for it, by all means be my guest.

Allow me to quote Greg Giraldo, one of the best comedians going today:

"Some people give up chocolate for lent. Oooh...just like being nailed to a cross. I'm sure Jesus really appreciaties the gesture. "Hey God, get in here, we gotta open up the Pearly Gates, this fat bitch is going 40 days without a Kit Kat Bar."
