What are your games of the generation?

You know what? I'm going to try to narrow it down as far as possible. these are in no particular order

Tomb Raider (Playstation 3, Xbox 360)

I never played a Tomb Raider game before the 2013 reboot, so naturally I went in sceptical about all the high praise it was getting at first. Without much of a tutorial and being thrown headfirst into the action, I was almost immediately hooked. Aside from bland characters and piss-poor multiplayer, Tomb Raider is not only one of the best games of 2013, but also one of the best games to get on a last-gen console

The Last of Us (Playstation 3)

I didn't follow a single story regarding this game before launch. I kept hearing people talk about how sweet it looked on just about every gaming forum I visited, but didn't pay it much attention. Once it was released and the reviews started popping up, I had to see what all the hype was about. Needless to say, I didn't regret dropping those $60 for even a single second. Sometimes things are popular for a good reason - because THEY'RE GOOD
You included these 2 but not Uncharted 2?

Mine are in no particlaur order

Uncharted 2

Tomb Raider 2013

The Last of Us

Mario Galaxy 1/2

Gears of War 2

God of War 2 (it was on last gen hardware but released during this gen)

Batman Arkham City

1 - Mass Effect Trilogy

2 - Dragons Age Origins

3 - Skyrim

4 - Batman - Arkham CIty

5 - Forza 4

6 - Trials Evolution

7 - Grand Theft Auto 5

8 - Red Dead Redmeption

9 - Last of Us

10 - Shadow Complex

Those are without question the games I enjoyed the most this last generation. I probably spent at least 3-4 times as much time on these games as most of the other games I played.

All the typical choices, Last of Us, Mass Effect,  etc etc....

But there are a few that caught me off guard:

Nier - Dat ending D :(

Deadly Premonition - I saw Twin Peaks for the first time a few months before playing this. That could've been a factor.

Rayman Legends/Orgins - Probably the best and most innovated 2D platformer since the 16 bit era.

Xenoblade Chronicle - Played the hell out of this game. My wife and kid were in Japan for a few weeks while I had this so I had a ton of time to kill on this. I don't think I'll ever play an RPG to completion like I did this one again.

Endless Ocean - Such a peaceful game. I really want to see more games like this.

Tenchu Z - We need a sequel. Make it happen From Software

A top 10 list is pretty much impossible to make because of how many phenomenal games came out this gen. I guess I'll start with a few and then update the list when I get more time on my hands.

Portal 2

I didn't buy this game when it first came out or the first one but I googled the story for the first one before playing this game and man is this game something else. It is literally the only puzzle game I have ever enjoyed and I have never played anything like it ever before.  It's fun, addicting and the story in it is one of the best in gaming. This game only has 3-4 main character and all of them manage to be better and more interesting than most characters in other games. It has some of the best villains, great plot twist and a superb beginning and ending. The voice acting is top notch and the coop is one of the best of this generation. My only gripe with this game is that it's too short.

Good topic, OP.

I'm going with:

1.  Mass Effect 3

2.  Mass Effect 2

3.  Mass Effect

4.  Alan Wake

5.  Fable 2

6.  Bioshock Infinite

7.  Batman Arkham Asylum

8.  Dragon Age 2

9.  Lost Odyssey

10. Fable 3

I know I'd have a lot of people disagreeing with me on a lot of those, and the bottom 5 could really go in any order.  But, I feel good about that list.  Those are all games that I love.  Runners up include Dragon Age Origins, Portal 2, Costume Quest and maybe even Bastion.  Obviously, I'm a big Xbox 360 guy and only play console games on that platform.

And, without question, this has been the best generation for gaming ever.  Sure, the 16-bit era had some classics, but this one had legends.  Stuff we'll be talking about for decades.
