What artists did you end up liking after hearing in a movie?

CAGiversary!
I just thought of this idea after seeing Wristcutters again (this time on Sundance On Demand - really should just own this movie finally, but I think it was only released last year *odd to say so soon*). It had Tom Waits as the opening track, and I remember thinking at the time how much I loved the song, the sound of his voice, the lyrics, etc. and how it just synced with the movie and me. Since then I've heard tons of his stuff. Anybody else have a similar experience from watching a movie/soundtrack?

I'm sure I'm missing some (Ferris Bueller's Soundtrack/film comes to mind for some reason) because of still being a little tipsy from New Year's Eve and feeling a bit ill.

Scorsese's movies have always enchanced my enjoyment of classic rock, particularly the Rolling Stones. I like it when the songs in a movie fit the era, it gives you a sense of being in the moment that you can't get from listening to the song in a vacuum.

I went crazy about the opening song to the show Las Vegas. And got Mad World by Gary Jules from Itunes after watching Donnie Darko for the 1000th time

Yup. "Gimme Shelter" in the Departed was awesome, and I've branched out on some RS since then. I flipped out when I saw Gimme Shelter was in Rock Band 1.

The Garden State soundtrack is amazing. The Shins, Cary Brothers, Remy Zero, and Zero 7.. Love their songs on the soundtrack and picked up CD's by them all. I enjoyed The Shins and Cary Brothers, Remy Zero is just okay, Zero 7 is pretty good.

I also became a huge fan of Jon Brion's work after Eternal Sunshine and I Heart Huckabees and will watch a movie if I hear that he did the soundtrack to it.

Well, Reign over me in Reign Over Me got me in to the Who, if that counts.

Recently, I enjoyed hearing Vampire Weekend in Step Brothers.

The Pixies thanks to "Where Is My Mind" at the end of Fight Club. And it's random, but a bunch of artist from the Boiler Room soundtrack .. ie Pharoah Monche, Ugly Duckling, Saukrates, Beanie Sigel.

Yeah, that movie has a damn good soundtrack...and I agree that it's kinda random considering.

I'll never forget hearing Cannibal Corpse's "Hammer Smashed Face" in Ace Ventura when the movie came out in when I was 14 or 15. It opened up a whole new world of music I have cherished ever since.

I wasn't a Bob Dylan fan until I saw Don't look Back. I watched that movie without knowing what it was about..

That time I listened to the soundtrack from the first Mortal Kombat movie.... damn that movie has some great music.

I know this may be kind of on the nose, but Blues Brothers had a lot of great music in it. That definately opened me u[ to more R&B type music.

Good calls with The Pixies, various music from The Blues Brothers and renewed appreciation for artists like Rolling Stones.

For me, first thing that came to mind was The Pillows after seeing FLCL. I'm not real big into anime but I remember how integrated the music was into the series and loved it.

My sister got into Switchfoot after seeing A Walk To Remember, and then introduced me to them, so that's sort of the same thing. Although vicariously.

I was never into Nirvana...that whole grunge thing back in the 90's was fucking awful...but i recently saw About a Son and it really moved me. Their music seems to have a whole new depth to it now.

I took my girlfriend to see Control when it was in theaters and she now feels the same way about Joy Division. Goddamn that movie is heartbreaking.

The song Stuck In The Middle by Steeler's Wheel, from the film Reservoir Dogs. Conversely, the newest Bond film has turned me away from Jack White forever.

I thought alicia keys and a jack white song would be cool, but i was so very wrong.

Loved "Stuck in the Middle" ever since, always puts a smile on my face now.

White/Keyes sound extra horrible after the Chris Cornell song for Casino Royale, that's become my favorite Bond song.

Wow!! I can't believe I didn't think of that one. Stuck in the Middle has been indubitably ingrained and associated with that scene from Reservoir Dogs ever since I saw the film. I don't even think I could disassociate it at this point; it just flashes in my mind whenever I hear that song. I sometimes find myself wanting to flash to that scene when I hear the song. Good pick.

Yeah this was a good call, Taratino's films always have a good soundtrack. I can think of several songs from Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs , and Kill Bill that are classic. For example, Miserlou
pretty much every Wes Anderson movie I find someone new to listen to
Ditto this. The soundtrack to Royal Tenenbaums is one of my favorite.
Clint Mansell became my favorite movie score composer after seeing Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain.
I was a fan of Clint's stuff back when he was in Pop Will Eat Itself in the early 90's. His score work is just incredible, though.

I would also throw out Urge Overkill's rendition of Neil Diamond's "Girl You'll Be Woman" on the list as well, though I can't really say that I've since become a fan of the majority of their work.

Same here. More so The Fountain for its grandeur and beauty, because Requiem for a Dream's score reminds me of the intensity and sadness of it.

dont know about a movie but i got into the Emcee Saigon from Entourage. at 1st i thought he was a charater but it turns out he's an actual Emcee! and an awesome one at that. the Letter P was an awesome track.
Linkinprime in TF and Incuibus and the others from the movie stealth. Crappy movie but good music.
You know Linkinprime isn't really a band, right?

The score for The Fountain is my favorite score period. I can listen to it anytime and not get tired of it. thefountainremixed.com a long time back ran a contest to see who could remix the "Stay with Me" track the best, my personal favorite was this one.

I was already a fan, but was SHOCKED when I heard my friend's band, Oleander, in both the original Spiderman and American Pie. Jackhole failed to mention they got their music featured in those movies before I saw 'em in theaters.
