They can be finicky but the drivers have built-in 360 pad emulation and they are free.

I use my 360 wired controller on my PC laptop and mac mini but only for when I'm playing in the OnLive.com service.

There is a driver you can download for the PC at Microsoft. If you are using a Mac though and have Snow Leopard on it, the Mac will recognize it.

I would just search Microsoft for that driver.
