What game won you over to Xbox?

Shenmue II

Loved the first one and really wanted to play the second one on my DC but could never find a copy (since it wasnt avaliable in the US, only by importing).

What he said.

But if I had to really make a choice about it I would say it was KOTOR that made me get my Xbox. That is my favorite game on the system above anything else and IMO the one true great game on the Xbox. My Xbox doesn't really get much use; my PS2 and GCN get a lot more use.

Mechassault. I stayed the night at my cousin's house one night to try the game out over Xbox Live and I was hooked instantly. Also, even though I didn't like Halo very much at first, I started going to LANs over at his house and found myself liking the game more and more. I eventually got an Xbox, a copy of Mechassault and a year subscription to Live.

It wasn't until many months later that I finally got my own copy of Halo. Now I'm a friggin' Halo 2 addict.

No game won me over. I trusted Microsoft on making the console better than their competitors. Thats why I bought and Xbox at launch. Plus, I despise Playstation.

Halo. I was going to hold out and not get one, but as soon as I played it, I broke down and bought one in December, one month after its release.

I think the GTA DP sealed the deal for me. I had been weighing the pros and cons between snagging a PS2 and Xbox for quite some time.

My major pros for Xbox were that it was more powerful and had a HDD (no memory cards!, better load times...)

Major pros for PS2 were that it had more games and the games I wanted to play most of all were the 2 GTAs. Once they came out on Xbox it made my decision much much easier. If they hadn't I honestly probably would have gone with a PS2.

This is exactly what I did. I got an Xbox and Halo at launch, without having played Halo. Definitely worth it.

Instead of a game, what I looked for was system capabilities. I'd guess the superiority of graphics over the PS2 and it having a broadband ready port was my biggest factor to own one, after eyeing it for quite some time. I didn't even know that Xbox had a built in Hard-Drive, lol, I thought you connect it to the PC. The game that I did look to was Raw, and by looking at the graphics for NFL Fever 2002, comparing it to the alternatives, I was bought. I didn't buy Halo until my friend said that it was a good game, and my only games I owned within those couple of months before owning Halo were Project Gotham Racing, Mad Dash Racing, and NFL Fever 2002, which I all bought for $50 each. I'd even bought about 6 issues of OXM at newstand price (around $8-10) before I officially subscribed, silly me. :)

It was going to be my first console after having a Dreamcast and giving it away ages ago. After giving it away, I gammed on my PC for a while 'till I just needed a good ole' console and controller. My last purchase of a PS1, the loading times made me want to pull my hair and and four, yes count them, FOUR of the PS1's had some kind of deffect. I ended up returning it for a refund and for a while didn't want consoles anymore. Then when I got tired of PC gamming only, I of course DID NOT go for Sony again. Xbox was my best choice. I got the GC later. To this day, I don't want a PS2. The PSP on the other hand... well, only time will tell. ;)

while i dont have an xbox, the games id like to play are panzer dragoon, jet set future, shenmue 2, deathrow, ninja gaiden...im sure theres a couple more, but they're not comming to me right now.

I first got interested because of the first shots of Fable two or three years ago. That game turned out to be a big dissapointment for me, good thing there are tons of great games that make XBox my most played system now.

Already had teh Ps2 and Gamecube but neither had a really good version of Splinter Cell Pandora for Multiplayer so I took the plunge. I had never even bothered to look into Halo and figured I would never play it even when I did get the box- now I spend about 6 hours a day playing Halo2 online. Heh.

I bought one just cuz it was the new system, so I therefor needed it, but the game that really made me love it (and Xbox Live) was Phantasy Star Online. I was pretty addicted to that game for a good while.

EDIT: Just looked through the thread, I can't believe no one else has mentioned PSO :(

Panzer Dragoon Orta, after I had my fill, Jet Set Radio Future, Halo, and Counter-strike encoraged me to stay.

DOA3 however, almost made me leave, talk about a let down :(
Would have been nice if the rumors about Nintendo and MS joining forces for the next generation had turned out to be true. Nintendo could have made the cool games, MS could have handled the online play. Everybody would have won.
The only problem with that is that Nintendo doesn't make cool games.

my brother had an xbox since launch, i chose gamecube. sega didnt make hockey after 2k3 for GC so i had to get an Xbox to get NHL2K4. no way was i choosing ps2

Yeah, Project Ego looked like on hell of a game. I still like the name better.

It had me at HALO. But I have to say that I am a mulit console owner. 2 PS2s, 2 GCs & 3 XBOXs. I want to play any game I'm interested in, so I'll buy every console, for the most part, but XBOX is far & away my favorite.

DOA3 wasn't that bad, and it was a launch title that became a Platinum Hit.. unless you were expecting a perfect launch title, or never read a review before purchasing the game, than I suppose you don't really know why you're supposed to be let down with it. Counter-Strike on the other hand, IS a let down. I thinbk you've probably were thinking of some other fighting game, or DOAXBV.. A letdown is something that you were in the hype of (for a period of time), and was dissapointed. A game released over a year older than the other games you listed, and you saying DOA3 almost made you leave, while a game like Panzer is over a year after it came out, doesn't make sense.

Summary: DOA3 can't be a let down because it was a launch title, and the other games you listed were out later.
My point: No point..

Pretty much the racing games, more specifically Project Gotham 2 and RalliSport Challenge 2. I had a GC and a PS2 (now have all 3), and it just seemed like I had seen all there was in terms of racing games. I really wanted some different games, plus ones that looked great. The only thing that was missing was the Xbox.

I'll admit, back in 2001, I wanted no part in the Xbox, because I thought it was another attempt on Microsoft's part to monopolize on another industry (but really, it's Sony who's doing that). As time went by, I started to want an Xbox more and more because it had it had a lot of exclusives I wanted to play, plus the games looked great. Finally in early 2004, I took about 12 games down to Satruday Matineee (a part of FYE), traded them in, got $151 in credit and used that towards an Xbox system, and it was one of the best decisions I made. I haven't stoped playing or buying games for the system since I've bought it.

Nothing really. I wasn't really impressed (I'm still not really) but I buy almost all consoles, and I already had my PS2 and GC. One game that I was interested in before I bought it would have been Jet Set, becuase I loved Jet Grind on the DC.
