My receiver is fried and I'm looking for a replacement. It doesn't matter if it is refurb or new. I think that we probably have some home audio experts here on CAG. Thanks in advance.

what exactly are you looking to use it for?

primarily music? and 2 channel (stereo only) or surround sound (5.1)

watching dvds? video games? and do you need s-video/component inputs?

yamaha is a solid brand, and their htr line of receivers are a good recommendation in your price range without many frills

otherwise, look for a refurbished denon for more overall features and a better product (imo, i have a yamaha rxv1300)

I would use it mainly for dvd's w/ surround sound 5.1 and the s-video inputs aren't a big deal.
 
Assuming you're driving nothing better than JBL's

And not running an amp

And looking more for power

And want to keep it under 150 USD...

Go for a 2001-2004 model range of the Pioneer VSX D810, 811, 812, 813 or 814 series. Reliable as hell, great power, good number of inputs and not a wallet buster.

I own the 812 and am looking to upgrade fairly soon since I bought better speakers. Though maybe I'll go for an amp first....
