What is still waiting for us in the future or is the PS2 almost dead?

Mr. Pussy

CAG Veteran
I still haven`t played most of the PS2 classics so far, there are still nice games waiting for me, but...

Are there any interesting releases in the future? Or will the support finally run out like on the Xbox?

Ok what do we got:

God of War 2:
This will be a nice one, but the same greek mythology setting again, more like an expansion

This is the only game I`m looking forward o_O

FFXII and Guitar Hero II are already out

Any other ideas what may come in the PS2`s last days of glory?

Can't think of anything. Must be dead...but I don't care I got tons of games I havem't played yet...

The only ones that immediately come to mind are Rogue Galaxy and Persona 3. There are still a few games coming that I'm interested in. I just can't think of any right now. There are those games I'm waiting for a price drop too. Hell, I just now bought Resident Evil 4 since it finally dropped to $20.

Personally, I'm still looking forward to Persona 3, Rogue Galaxy, and Ar Tonelico (that last one could go either way though.) Rogue Galaxy in particular will be incredible.

I think it's safe to say that God of War is the last 'major attraction' to draw attention back to the PS2 for the overall gaming community, its Conker's Bad Fur Day, if you will.

Speaking of a franchise that could really use a sequel....

QFT. I have still yet to try Resident Evil 4, God of War, any of the Guitar Hero games, MGS3: Subsistence, and Shadow of the Colossus. Man, just reading what I wrote depresses the hell outta me.

I could get somewhere in my backlog if FFXII wasn't so damn long. The game's also too good to just quit on, so I'm stuck

Oh well.

I got Okami, FFX, FFXII, KH1/2, Radiata Stories, Valkyrie Profile 2, Sly 3, Ratchet 3, Ape Escape 3, Dark Cloud 1/2, Jak 3, ICO, SoTC etcccc.... recrently got a PS2 so I'll be busy.

Same here. The fact that I've had a PS2 for just under two months (Better late than never, right?) certainly doesn't help -- I have six years of great games to catch up on. I am looking forward to Rogue Galaxy, though.

I'm thinking about getting a PS2 because I can't wait until Spring 2007 for Guitar Hero for my Xbox 360. Plus, I get to play the Hot Shots Golf games again (my favorite golf series).

There are so many Greatest Hits games that I look foward to playing.

Ya I love it...gaming has never been so cheap. Most I've spent so far for a game is 13$ Canadian which I consider pretty darn cheap...and they're just as fun as any other game too.

Yeah, the only PS2 game I've spent more than $20 on was FFXII for $38.

Gotta love CAG.

dont forget Odin Sphere from Atlus. There is also the rumor Square Enix trying to trademark the name Front Mission 5 and Atlus doing the same with Growlanser V.
There are the two remaining .hack games from Namco. There are also games like Tales of Destiny remake and Wild Arms 5 that still need to be pick up.

fuck Rogue Galaxy. Square sucks for not bringing over Front Mission 5 sooner. Ditto with Atlus and Growlanser V. It certainly would be better than shit like Metal Saga and Steambot.

Isn't Seiken Densetsu IV coming? That's going to be better than anything currently listed in the thread

Dave

I completely forgot about the new .hacks on the horizon. I finally picked up Infection the other day and can't wait to start playing through the series.

God of War 2 is probably the last major release, but I think I own about 100 PS2 games that I'm still trying to get around to. I think my PS2 is almost dead, and there will certainly be almost nothing new worth mentioning after next year, but anyone should be able to get thousands of hours of gaming out of it still.

Other than waiting for God of War 2, I will be looking to put a dent in my PS2 backlog (as others have mentioned).

On top of those, I'll be purchasing a lot of import PS2 games that I missed out on (KOF XI + Melty Blood: Act Cadenza).

there is also Yakuza 2 which should be a huge improvement over the first game. From NIS there is Soul Cradle. Those games should get a US release, as there are too many PS2 owners.

You guys think konami will port mgs:portable ops onto the ps2? I don't think I will be getting a psp, but it would be nice if i could play that game.

The original PSOne lasted 4 years after the PS2 launch. The PS2 will have a strong 2007 and probably first half of 2008.

I would imagine that small RPG developers really dont have significant incentive to go next gen yet when their nitch product can go on the system with a 100M+ install base.

The PS2's lifespan will end like the PS1's did... lots of budget games, a few gems among them and hopefully some nice shmups. I think the last game will be some random EA sports title like on the PS1.

Looking forward to God Of War 2, and I'd like to check out Okami someday. Hopefully Rockstar will port Vice City stories to the PS2 (and fix the bugs), but no biggie if they don't. Beyond that, I've currently got 84 PS2 games, and a big backlog, but I'd also like to get the first Ratchet & Clank, Jak III, Sly Cooper 2 and 3, Outrun 2, and possibly Jak X and a few others.

Looking at my prerelease list, I've got:

The Red Star
Ar Tonelico
God of War 2
Persona 3
Dawn of Mana

Hopefully we'll also see Wild ARMs V and Growlanser V (with some hope of Front Mission 5 as well)..

PS2 is far from dead. SCEA will start easing restrictions allowing anything to be released on PS2 now, since PS3 is out. SCEA wants it to last 10 years, meaning 4 more years left.

I hear a rumor that another Growlancer is coming stateside, possibly by Atlus, but didn't specify which one. I see lots more JRPGs coming to PS2, some of which may never come stateside yet (like a PS2 Summon Night game).
[quote name='ValkyrieVF-1S']You guys think konami will port mgs:portable ops onto the ps2? Also, Kojima does not like to port stuff.

Yeah I would stay that PS2 will still have strong releases in 2007 but then taper off after that except for a bunch of crappy budget games like PS1 got in its final years

I'm looking forward to Rogue Galaxy, God of War 2, and Lumines Plus. I'm sure there will be other titles too that I don't know about. Plus a whole backlog of games. I still need to get Kingdom Hearts 2!

Shit that reminds me - I have a sealed CBFD sitting on my shelf I need to play. As far as PS2, there's enough [great] backlog to last me until the PS3 drops a couple hundred bucks.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in feeling like the PS2 is still the system of choice. By the time I play a quarter of the games I want to on the thing PS3 will be $150 and working well. Maybe I'll have a nice HDTV by then to take advantage of it too.

Here's my list of future US PS2 games:
-God of War 2
-Dawn of Mana (AKA: Seiken Densetsu 4)
-Yakuza 2
-Dot Hack//GU 2&3

As for Japanese games:
-KOF Nests Collection
-KOF 98 Remake
-Fatal Fury Archives 2
-Samurai Showdown Collection
-Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix + (includes KH2: Final Mix AND a PS2 remake of Chains of Memories!!)

Wow....that's not too much.
Plus there's only a few games left on my "to buy" list for PS2:
-SF Alpha Anthology
-Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams
-KOF 2006
-Godhand
-Final Fantasy XII CE
-Dot Hack//GU 1

Looks like I'm almost done w/PS2. Yahoo!

Anyone know if that Kingdom Hearts two with the chain of memories will come out in the US, perhaps as part of the greatest hits version?

I still havent picked the game up, and will probably end up waiting for GH anyway, but that would be awesome if it had the bonus.

I forgot Dawn of Mana on my list and you forgot Hokuto no Ken in Japan. You know you want it.

You're fucking with me! Does it have full on KH2 graphics and everything?

yes, but it has the same card base system.

Really!!?? Will we be able to buy it in NA? I hated the card based system though, played it on the GBA for a little bit, but for PS2 I'd still play through it.

The only games that I'm looking forward to are The Red Star, Metal Slug Anthology, and God of Ward 2. And Metal Slug Anthology will be available on other systems, and the other two look like rentals at best.

My PS2 has gotten very little attention lately.

currently there is no plan. Personally I think the chance should be good as KH and FF are the 2 best selling series for Square Enix.

Yeah I haven't heard anything about it coming to the US.

BUT Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix will have English VOICE ACTING (all in-game text and menus will still be in Japanese), so there is a SLIM chance that the Chain of Memories remake will too, but I kinda doubt it.

Btw, the official name of the CoM remake is "Re: Chain of Memories". I saw it @ TGS last summer and it looked a lot like KH1 to me, but with the card system and the 13th Order members in some of the cut scenes.

Definitely gotta' have Metal Slug Anthology.
2D goodness is on it's way out so gotta get my fix where I can.

I am currently selling off all my PS2 games except for 2D and fighters anyway.
I finally admitted to myself that is all I want to play anyway.

I gotta' say - Victorious Boxers 2 gets my vote for best overall gaming value.
Awesome boxing game with more depth than the EA games for $9.99.

It's like a sore dick, can't beat it.

I strongly believe that the PS2 still has some steam in it, only due to the fact that not many people are going to cough up 400-600 dollars for the PS3. Sure its going to blow microsoft and nintendo out of the water, but its still to pricey for us normal joes out there.
As for games for the PS2, i think that they'll keep making them so long as we keep buying them up. The PS2 isn't dead yet, its just slowing down a tiny bit.

Yeah, but the gaming mags have moved to focus on PS3 and reviewing them. Sure they'll probably throw the PS2 a few bones, but the coverage won't be the same and a chain reaction soon follows with no one knowing games exist, sales go down, blah, blah, blah.

The Jan. PSM looks pretty bare to me on the PS2 front -- not that there will be a flood of notables coming out. Still. I see the writing the on the wall.

I have NO PLANS to buy a PS3 anytime soon and so, my subscriptions end.
