What is the best Gameboy to purchase nowadays?

CAGiversary!

I have decided to buy a Gameboy and am unsure what would be the wisest choice. Currently Im stuck choosing between a Gameboy Micro and Gameboy Advance SP. On one hand, Micros are very cheap and look pretty awesome, but on the other hand, GBASP has backwards compatibility with GB and GBC. I am practically split down the middle and was hoping for CAG advice on which is better to buy and/or any other options (don't want to spend 130 on a DS Lite because I dont plan on using it very often).

Do you have alot of GB/GBC games or do you see alot that you plan on picking up? I'd guess that answer would decide it. Personally I'd get the Micro, but I haven't played a GB/GBC game in a long time, and I love the fact that you can stick the Micro in your pocket and game anytime!

As keithp said, it pretty much depends on how many GB/C games you want to play. Simple as that.

Uh...I'm pretty sure you can do that with all of the Gameboys.

Not really. Even the SP was a bit large to stick in your pants pocket--fine for a jacket pocket though. So the micro does have the edge there.

I would go with the SP. Screen is protected when you close the system, and it's compatible with GBC/DMG games.

However, try to get one of the SPs released most recently that have a brighter and backlit screen, rather than the front lit screen of the first gen.

If you have a lot of old GB or GBC game I would pick up the GBASP. But if you are solely playing GBA game, I would recommend a GBA Micro because it is very portable and plays great.

I have a micro in my pocket right now. I play it every weekday. I might pick up an SP as a backup, but Micro is my favorite portable.

I bought a micro and loved it but then i got an itouch and it just took over, since it has the potential for gba snes nes etc. but lets not get into that.

Micro > SP imo.

I also prefer the micro. Let me know if you do get one, I have a whole bunch of micro starter kits that I bought on clearance, I'll send you one, just cover the shipping. It has a screen protector, headphones and little leatherette slipcase...

Is that all that's in the starter kit?

Pretty much, and a lanyard and a screen-wipe. I have about 6 of these, and they are up for grabs for anyone who wants them...

I dont know what possessed me to buy them, they were probably .50 each or something.

EDIT: The auction I linked to originally had a car adapter, which this doesn't have. It's called Intec GameBoy Micro Starter Kit if you want to google it.

Personally, I'd go with the SP. Bigger screen plus you can play Link's Awakening DX and other GBC games. Where can you still find either of them though? I've wanted to get a one of the newer GBA SPs with the brighter LCDs ever since I left my SP on a plane, but I can't find them anymore.

My vote is for the Micro. It is by far my favorite Nintendo handheld. I actually just bought my second Micro when I found a near mint condition 20th Anniversary Famicom Micro at Gamestop for $30 used...I just couldn't pass.

The SP with the BACKLIGHT. Most SP's are front lit, but some are backlit, and they are better for it. Not to mention you get to play all your old GB/GBC games, too. And accessories work as well.

DEFINITELY get a Backlit GBA SP. They're incredible.
The screen is MUCH better than a DSLite for GBA games!
Plus GB/GBC games look fantastic too!

Here's a pic of what to look for:
