What is the best TV show on air today?

Although I voted for Prison Break, I'm surprised that Veronica Mars isn't on the list...It has enough of a following now that I consider it to be pretty popular, and it's definitely a great show, not to mention Kristen Bell is super cute.

I'll throw another vote towards The Shield for the sheer adrenaline factor. However, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned The Wire. It has to be the most tightly written and realistic cop drama ever made. I think Nip/Tuck would be in the running as well if it weren't for the decline in quality last season.

I picked up the Season 1 DVD as a blind buy a few weeks ago and I just got around to watching the first four episode and I have to agree that it's a great show (and I have to agree about Kristen Bell).

I would have to say nip tuck, i just got season 3 on dvd, really great show, i wish I had cable to check out season 4 but the seasons seem to come out on dvd pretty fast.

Lost is on the decline. We'll see how season 3 goes but season 2 was a definite letdown when compared to season 2.

24 had one of its weakest, yet most critically acclaimed (and awarded) seasons last year. I'm not very optimistic that it will ever be as good as the 1st few season. I think its a limitation with the premise. You can only do so much with 24 realtime episodes a season without it getting to a level of absurdness.

Prison Break season 1 was perhaps one of the greatest single seasons of TV I can ever remember. Unfortunately, like 24, given the constraints of the storyline, it will eventually run out of steam despite season 2 not being too bad so far. Its really too bad because I love seeing shows that do something so creatively different than everything else out on TV.

I'm kind of disappointed The Shield isn't in the poll. That show, despite ups and downs, never fails to disappoint. If it was on network it would be much more popular than it is already. Unfortunately, if it was on network TV, they couldn't make it as gritty and real, which is definetly its greatest appeal. The term "shades of gray" applies to just about all the character in this show and I can never get over how interesting they manage to make the storylines. Its one of the few shows that is both equally character driven and story driven, with both of them done very well.

I only watched episodes here and there last season but judging from the premiere episode this season, it will be much better than last season.

RvB, your posts never fail to disappoint as well.

I'm disappointed that no one else isn't disappointed about The Shield not being in the poll.

I'm disappointed that everyone else seems disappointed with the bad shows that made the poll and the fact the good ones aren't on the list.

There seems to be a lot of disappointment in this thread...

Sorry the poll would only let me put 10 shows max. I listed the ones I usually watch for the choices so sorry if your show didn't make it on the list. That doesn't mean it sucks or anything. I also watch The Office, but I just forgot to put that on there. However if there is a show you watch that is not on the list just vote "Other" and post below what show it is.

So what you're saying is that you're disappointed that you couldn't put more possible answers for the poll?

24 and Prison Break are on top of my list. I'm pushing for Prison Break since 24 got enough seasons behind it already.

Lost is a somewhat distance second because I picked it up in the middle of the second season, and it was hard to figure out what's going on without watching all the episodes before that.

The rest (Smallville, Entourage, Grey's Anatomy, and House) I only watch episodically, but Smallville more than the others since it comes on when I eat dinner sometimes.

The Office is the best show on TV.

Favorite comedy shows:
1. The Office
2. Entourage
3. Scrubs
4. Curb Your Enthusiasm
5. How I Met Your Mother

Favorite Dramas:
1. Lost
2. Bones
3. The Sopranos
4. Any CSI
5. Grey's Anatomy

Ten Best shows on now:

1) Lost
2) 24
3) Entourage
4) Veronica Mars
5) Scrubs
6) Venture Bros
7) My Name is Earl
8) Law and Order:SVU
9) Everybody Hates Chris
10) Law and Order

I watch my drama on dvd so I can catch them in order - I dvr shows that it doesn't really matter what order I watch them in. Currently, I have these set to record:

The Office
Monk
Psych (it's got potential, but it's not quite there yet)
How I Met Your Mother
Gene Simmons' Family Jewels ;)
South Park

And I'm watching these on dvd:

Dark Angel (I'm really late to the party on this - it's cheesy but entertaining enough)
The West Wing
E.R.
The Shield

I've adopted a new rule for dvd sets, I don't bite on them until I can pick them up for less than $20. It's working well, since they run sales on them more & more often. I just grabbed season 6 of West Wing last week, so I have 2 or 3 seasons that I own but haven't watched now. I'm never at a loss for something to watch.

The only series that will make me break that rule are Soprano's (I must have the new season when it hits dvd...whenever that will be...) and Deadwood (tho it's still gotta come down SOME before I buy it).

I'm looking forward to starting to pickup some X-Files for

Why are all the poll options dramas?

All the shows I watch (best to worst):
The Simpsons
My Name Is Earl
Two and a Half Men
Boston Legal
Everybody Hates Chris
Eureka
Monk (in the summer)
Psych (in the summer)
New Adventures of Old Christine

I noticed none of those are even options, this topic just has too many possible choices to make a good poll.
The Shield. that show is awesome. entourage is pretty addicting as well, i blew thru the first two seasons in no time.
agreed...The Shield....its the only non-sports, program i watch...(other then adult swim stuff)

I have a tie for fave show on TV today: Big Brother (current season ends tomorrow) and The Simpsons (they've still got it just as much as ever, haters be damned).

I also love the office. I watch most of the shows listed. Out of the ones listed I would have to say that Lost and 24 are my favorites. The storylines keep you guessing and ultimately bring you back for the following week to see what's going on.

Another good show that is off the list is Nip/Tuck. A very good show that is very explicit with its material.

Someone likes that trash name Eureka? Nothing ever happens on the show, it's just bad and I can't see it lastin for more than a season or 2.

In my opinion, Arrested Development had the best comedic writing of any show in the history of television.

Now that it is gone the best show on TV is Lost.

I've seen every episode of 24 and I do enjoy it.. However, I think the series is losing steam. Every season has the same 10-12 events: kidnapping of someone close to Jack, terrorist working for CTU, head of the terrorist group used to know Jack, etc. Sometimes it's like the writers have their own AWESOM-O churning out the plot 'twists'.

I voted for 24, but I also love the daily show, colbert report, scrubs and how I met your mother.

I think that Veronica Mars is a great show. I guess I've been addicted to it lately because Veronica is incredibly hot. I recently saw a clip of her with Fash.

I really love how Veronica is dressed. She has a great sense of style and personality. But why is she really into Fash? Is it because he's into her and he can drive her around in a cool car or something? I don't quite get it.

Agreed, now I get my TV comedy kicks from Earl & The Office. Fiance & I watch Weeds & Veronica Mars regularly along with The Sopranos. But, I was really disappointed with the past Sopranos finale or I probably would've voted for it.

Weeds was amazing tonight, best comedy on TV. And Sports Night is still amazing even through I have seen it at least 4 times. I just finished up the show again an hour ago.
