What is the best Xbox controller?

Xevious

CAGiversary!
I was looking into buying another Xbox controller. There are so many kinds like Madcatz, Pelican, Logitech, the controller-s...etc.

So I was wondering if any of you tried the any of the 3rd party controllers and if you can give me feedback. Keep in mind, I am not interested in a wireless xbox controller...just the regular kind.

I have the logitech precision Love it. great feel. great great controller. and its made by logitech they are a good company they made the headsets that came with socom for ps2. do not buy the nikko airflows I bought one and my friend did as well (new). Mine died after 3 weeks and his died after 2 months we both hardley ever used the fans unless it was a intense game of halo.

GZA,

How long have you had your Madcatz. I was reading the reviews on Amazon.com and lot of the people complained that their Madcatz controllers broke...

I've had it for over 2 months now, and it hasn't given me any problems. I believe there were some hardware problems in the earlier models of the microcon that caused them to break, but I'm pretty sure those were fixed since then.

my bro has the pelican wireless also and loves it. good range. ive used it when @ his pad & i think its great & comf if it were not 4 not having a port 4 the headset, etc. otherwise, 2 thumbs up.

secondly, i drop my controller s's on my hardwood floor all the time and have never had a prob. great hardware. bulletproof.

The only third party controllers I'll even consider are Logitech. I think they generally make good quality stuff. The wireless XBOX controller is great-it is a little expensive though.

MadCatz and Pelican - ughhh, stay away.

Go for the controller-s.

The microcons are kind of iffy I bought a gcn one and it broke. But my girlfriend liked the fact that is was small enough for her hands so we got another and it seems to be hanging in there.

agreed

I think the normal sized Mad Catz controllers are pretty good. I got it for $13 a year and a half ago and it works great. I bought a normal pelican and hate it. I got it for $6 after a coupon at Radio Shack so I don't care. I don't like the controller S as much as the fat one except the S has a right thumb stick when I'm trying to zoom in on RS3. IKf you can get the MadCatz for less than $15 new, I would suggest getting that.

I got a madkatz microcon for free, and it's holding up after 6 months. My sister likes it because it fits well in her hands.

the logitec ones in store right now are cool. I got the version with a cord at BB for 20 after GGC. You may want to hold off for the new logitec controllers I hear they are even better.

Question regarding the Wireless controllers people have mentioned.

I keep my Xbox in a cabinet with a (allegedly) wood door. So if I close my cabinet there is no way an infrared beam could reach my Xbox.

My question is how do the wireless controllers work? Do I have to have line of sight for an infrared beam or do they work by radio waves that could penetrate by wood door?

Thanks

Here's what I ended up getting: http://tinyurl.com/ypks5

Though it's no longer available online at Best Buy.com, you may be able to find it in-store. I managed to get mine for $12.99 at Wal-Mart (B&M).

Works great!

I'm going to agree with some of the posters here.. go first party. I have never in my history of gaming had a third-party controller as good as a first-party. I've had some that are close or decent, but they never last as long and never work as well.. (especially analog joysticks).

Depending on the game I alternate between the Duke and the S controller.

I got the 2.4 Ghz wireless one from Hip Gear. I think it works using radio frequency, so it should work through your cabinet.

They're only $20 at Fry's right now, give 'em a shot.

I like my Eclipse wireless controller except for the fact the left trigger sticks every once in a while. But I did buy it used almost a year ago, and people at my work (who have no respect for anyones stuff) used it, so who knows what the cause was for the button to stick.
Also, I got the MASTER controller, its pretty tight, very good for Soldier of Fortune 2 and other first person shooters, cant wait to try it out on Halo 2

I WAS considering getting this controller until I read about the lack of Xbox Live Communicator input. Thus the review shouldn't have garnered such high marks and neither should ANY wireless controller. Since it seems they haven't solved that problem yet or have they??....

EDIT: cornfedweb (ya fat balding ugly iconed bastard) I have no idea what you are talking about maybe you need a prostitute or something for what u want of your effin controller. I'm saying a controller for me NEEDS all the features to be complete (including communicator) and for me to consider it..

Just think of it as a wireless phone, and since the hip gears are 2.4 GHZ then there should be no problem at all for the signal to go through. I got an Eclipse one and it works perfect through a metal cabinet when closed

No wireless controllers have the slot for the Live headset no.. but why does that mean they should get crap reviews? If one wireless controller is much better than all the other wireless controllers available.. why shouldn't it get a high score? None of my PS2 controllers give me a blow job while a play.. that doesn't mean they should all get 5's or below.

well I just used my wireless hip gear pad from another room with walls blocking me. And the pad still worked so I thinking some wood cabinet would be no problem.

Ok, clearly I am retarded for not asking this originally so I apologize.

Can the Xbox Live communicator be used with any of these wireless controllers?

Well, not yet. There's a controller coming out from Mad Catz or Hip Gear, one of the two, that has a headset with it and uses bluetooth technology. I think it's going to run about $70 or so.

The Hip Gear one I have, the adapter you plug into the controller port has a slot where you can plug in a memory card or the XBL headset, but then it defeats the purpose of a wireless controller because you have to be sitting right near your Xbox to use the headset.

So after listening to all of your posts, I went ahead and bought the Logitech Precision Controller.

After playing with this, I think this is the best controller I've played with. Its better than the controller-s.

The only thing is (and time will tell if I am right), the controller-S might be more durable in the long run. The analog controllers in the logitech are much looser by comparision.
if you can find one the Japanese S controller is the way to go. Buttons and sticks are much tighter
I agree...the buttons are a little more raised or something too, makes it easier to play IMHO.

I love the Logitech wireless (also have the PS2 one--got it for $20 at Gamestop used but like-new!) I have the older models that are larger . . . which I love the feel in my hands.

1st party are better (the Wavebird is a masterpiece) but if you want wireless, you can't top the logitech ones.

The simple plain old controller S is an awesome controller. Way more comfortable than any other XBOX controllers I've used. Always go with the official controller
I like the original, big ass, 1st party microsoft controller. it fits my hands well.
Hell yeah I love the Duke one of the big reasons why was because I came to Xbox from the Dreamcast. I liked how the controllers were the same.

logitech is a great company, i have stuff from years ago that i bought for the pc.

madcatz has never given me a problem, but i would only buy if you can find a good deal.

pelican, no for me.

1st party are the best, but i've had problems with my first party.

Actually, I bought a joystick from Logitech for my PC years ago and it was a piece of crap- It was called the Wingman Force 3D.

I didn't buy any more Logitech stuff after that but people in this forum said it was good so I decided to take a chance again. I found it cheaper than Controller-s on buy.com. With the rebate, it will amount to $15

...why must there be any other controller for the Xbox when you've got the original...
