No extending antenna [I broke the antenna off my old one at least three times], built in speakerphone that actually works, voice memo recorder.
I never wanted a cell phone in the past, but I got my wife one for Christmas about 4 years back, and it ended up being very useful. Then I got one through work, and it also is very useful. I was using it too much, for non-work related activities, so when her contract ran out, we signed up on one of those 'share your minutes' plans.
It really is handy to be able to call a restaurant and get on the waiting list, or call my parents and chit chat while we're driving somewhere [I'm not driving], or just call and say Hey, this item is on sale, do we need any of it? when at the store.
I do, however, agree wholeheartedly with the comments on inappropriate usage of cell phones. In restaurants [especially quiet ones], in a checkout line, in a PARKING LOT [stay parked if you're going to get on the phone!], while driving, etc. But the problem, imho, isn't the cell phone--it's this constant selfishness, me-first-ness, and I'm-more-important-than-you feeling that has pervaded our society in the past years.
Even apart from the rudeness of talking on the call while driving, it is an easy way to get killed--a guy's wife at my work was on her cell phone, ran a red light, and got killed instantly : (. Don't do it--pull over, call them back, whatever. It's not worth it.
