What kind of file extention is .dmg?

Trying to dload the newest Bittorrent client and turns out it's file extention is .dmg and I have no idea what's needed to run it. Any help is appreciated.

I think it's a Mac version of an .iso.

It's a Disk Image File.. As stated earlier it's only used in Mac.. OS X and later..
