HSidwolf thanks for welcoming me to the club...the shiba puppy, kashi, is 12 wks old as of sunday...she has been excellent so far, only gone to the bathroom inside 2x in 3 wks, and doesn't chew any of the video game wiring i have...the only thing she does is chase our 2 cats around the house...she comes to work with me every day and plays with the guy in the office overs golden every day...and my parents live close to me and have an irish setter and a chow...the breeder I bought her from is excellent, and has helped out a lot, but I have wanted a shiba for over 2 years, but couldn't get one due to living in an apt...The breeder will help out a lot, as she is co owner, untill this pup becomes a champion..what color is your shiba inu, kashi is red and white so far...I hope she doesn't beocme a seaseme color, as I really like the red and white look
Our shiba, Miso(insert miso soup joke here

- "Miso" actually means something else than the brown paste, like 'a small flirtatious smile'), is the red and white pattern just like your avatar. Your Kashi sounds a lot like ours when we first got her at 8 weeks old. They're a very clean breed, so they won't pee anywhere around their home, which can be bad sometimes because they'll try to hold it in for 20 hours instead of peeing near where they live, and that can cause urinary tract problems. But that's only in extreme cases and your puppy should get better at holding her pee in a few months. Miso can hold it for 12+ hours easily now and she lets us know by sitting in front of us and whining or tapping us with her front paws, so we only take her out 3 times a day. We got Miso from a champion breeder too and we're very satisfied. She's really smart and will learn commands in just a couple of tries. So far I've taught her sit, stay, drop it, leave it, bow, down, crawl, play dead, roll over, jump, shake hand, and high five. Then I got too lazy and ran out of ideas, haha.
It's great that you can bring her to work and you have other pets and dogs nearby for her to play with. Early socialization is important for a shiba because they can be aloof later(especially the males). For some reason though, our shiba LOVES strangers or anybody who comes over - she just won't leave 'em alone. And oh yeah, she plays chase with our cat Toastie all the time. They have a very high chase instinct though, so we usually don't let her go off leash. We used to, but one time she chased a maintenance cart all the way to the clubhouse and the maintenance guys drove her back with her in their arms. Our shiba loves playing with big dogs. She loved playing with this chow/shepherd mix at our old place and once in a while she plays with a golden puppy someone we know just got. They really are big dogs trapped in little dogs' bodies.
As far as destructive tendencies, our Miso dug the carpet a couple of times and chewed up the cable wire a bit, but that was a long time ago and she doesn't do it anymore. Just give her lots of toys and keep her entertained and she won't be destructive. And don't leave her alone in the house until she's at least a year old - we learned this the hard way because I had the brilliant idea of trying it out. We came home to a livingroom covered with potted plant soil
Anyway, if you want any kind of information, help, or just stories from other shiba owners, try this place. My girlfriend posts on this forum and really likes the community there.

Good luck with Kashi. And now, here's some pictures of our shiba. Miso's the smaller one on the right in those pics with two shibas.
