What long load times?

Just kinda wondering, people here seem to bitch a lot about bad load times. So I am wondering what games these are on? Longest I have come across is MH:F, which I would not even call bad, hell it is shorter than the MH on the ps2. So can anyone tell me what games are causing so many tears here?

I admit, some of my games have longer load times than a console game (such as Ape Escape On The Loose, Capcom Classics Remixed, etc.) while others loaded quicker (Hot Shots Golf Open Tee, Tekken DR, etc.). IMO, I rarely experience any problems with loading on PSP. The only game I might have a complaint about, is Ape Escape On The Loose, because most everything loads, for 2-3 minutes. Most games, are just 10-15 seconds, which isn't bad.

PoPoLocrois also has long load times. It has a bad random battle system that occurs too often and everytime you enter a battle it needs to read from the UMD which is slow. Thats the only game I have that I am annoyed of the loading times. My fine with the load times in my other games.

The long loads times are usually in the games that suck. You don't need to worry about them. Yes, PSP games have load times but they're only "long" if compared to rival handhelds who don't use disc based media.

X-Men Legends II had pretty horrible load times, which kinda sucked because it was a perfect pick up and play type of game. It would take 5 or so seconds just to get to the pause menu.

The first battle I had (with a new battle music), loaded up on the slower side the first time, but after that, the battles load lightning quick.

How long would you say they are, this is the only game that is mentioned that I have any intrest in.

I'm just curious here but what other handhelds use disc based media?

The problem isn't that theses loads are super long, its that whenever you move outside of town you randomly get attacked by enemies and it occurs too often. Everytime you are attacked the game needs to access data off the UMD so the UMD needs to start spining again resulting is a bit of load time that is annoying because the random attacks occur to often and they are lame fights.

Fair notice: it's hearsay, but supposedly the new Valkyrie Profile loads for three seconds everytime you go you a menu. Three seconds. Everytime you access a menu. In an RPG.

And I have that game still sealed since my PSP hasn't come in the mail yet...I wonder if I should return it...or even trade it here?

....NOT.....yet. =P

I don't think there ever has been another one, at least I can't think of one.

I was looking at picking up a used PSP a while ago as I really, really want to get LocoRoco when it comes out. I went to my local independent game shop and asked to try one out. They put in some Prince of Persia game, but it seemed to load the entire contents of the UMD for every damn thing. Starting logos? Loading. Title screen? More loading. Options? Even more loading. Start of the level? You better believe that there was loading. I wasn't much impressed.

Not all PSP games are like this....are they?

Oh course random battles happen often, but the loading is only 2-4 seconds to load up a battle.

I thought the battles in PoPoLoCrois were a lot of fun. Although many of the battles are easy, being a mix of strategy, turn-based RPG is enjoyable. Also, at least level gains are easy to do, compared to some games (I'm looking at you The Legend of Heroes).

....NOT.....yet. =P
I have the PS1 version and barely notice a difference in load times. Loading up and closing a menu in the PS1 version wasn't short either.

Fixing loading times in PSP is different from many consoles, it's just that the developer has to want to fix it. Basically, it's like consoles, where some load quick, while others load slow.

Play a game like Tekken, Daxter, Mega Man Powered Up, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (well, loading is quicker than most every MMX on console), and I'll think of more.

unless you are an especially impatient person, that supposed load to get into the menu is not noticeable at all.

Load times in VP are nothing, if the 2-3 secs bug people that much, I really have to wonder. So it really seems that only a few games have bad load times, and I have no intrest in them any way. Thanks for the feedback.
Well, there's always Smackdown vs Raw 2006, the king of awful load times: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1166948086140164262
this fails hard simply for the fact that no one bothers to mention that the PS2 load times for the same game are nearly identical. both versions load anywhere and everywhere if you give it the opportunity to. (in other words, turn off unneccessary shit like entrances.) although, do anything with CAW on the PSP and that's where it gets bad.

the loading on PoPoLoCrois is anything but long. they're just way too frequent (so yea; it's annoying). doesn't stop the game from being really good, or prevent you from having fun with it, though.

NFL Street and Madden 06 both have horrible load times on the PSP. My friend has Tiger Woods for the PSP and he says the load time are bad on that too.

Hmm all EA games :)
Midnight Club 3 is pretty bad
I must say this was the first game i ever tried on PSP, and i was fuckin pissed.

I remember i was at burger king with my friend

Friend: Try this new psp game i got.
Me: Ok. Starts it up
.....load
....load....
load....
...load...
WTF im just gonna eat fuck this game

Load times for the PSP are way over-exaggerated. Really, only a few crappy games have bad load times, and you shouldn't be playing those anyways.
