I have two 17 inch monitors that i don't know what to do with. ones an hp and another is some brand i don't even know. i can't imagine they are worth anything to even attempt to sell. so what can i do? is there a place i can donate them that would actually utilize them? can i do something cool with them? or is there a good place to sell them where i can get at least 75 bucks for my time?

Donate them to Goodwill or me.

Or CraigsList, or if you have other stuff laying around, have a yard sale. Or build a giant robot and use them as the robot's eyes.

I see them all the time on Craigslist around here and they seem to sell pretty quickly as long as they aren't over priced.
goodwill stinks, don't they just resell them anyway? i can do that myself.
Yes, but:
Goodwill Industries International is a non-profit organization that provides job training, employment placement services and other community-based programs for people who have a disability, lack education or job experience, or face employment challenges.
They would be good for 3 monitor Gran Turismo 5. If you want at least $75 to sell them, you should just give them to goodwill or someone who needs them because people aren't going to pay you that.

i rather give them to an organization that can give them to underfunded schools.

i highly doubt it.

i'd have to go into the unsavory neighborhoods to donate them. don't know if i wanna just walk into and inner city school with 2 monitors and say, "hey jerkass, i got a present for ya".

Don't know what's up with the attitude, you asked for suggestions and I offered some. You won't know unless you try. All you have to do is make a phone call to the principal. If it's an unsavory neighborhood, then it's probably low-income, and they'll probably want and need them even more but how was I to know this anyways.

I find it odd that $50 for each is not worth your time. You've already wasted some of that time here when you could've just put them up for sale.

Attitude? When did i have an attitude? the closes low income neighborhood by me happens to be one of the most dangerous areas in the nation. its not time, its safety.

You'd be surprised what some people pay for stuff.;) The worst that can happen is the OP gets lowballed and spammed like crazy putting them up on Craigslist. But then again that's what always happens anymore on there. There's very few real buyers who aren't bots or total jackholes anymore.

Your last post.

RE time, you said you would only spend the time selling them if you could get $75.

if they are 17" LCD even even old ones can fetch 30-50 bucks. i sold an old dell LCD i had a year or so ago and got $50 for it.
Your last post.

Is that an attitude? That I would consider anything less than 75 dollars not worth the effort? I would consider that my right and really none of your concern

well if it wasnt attitude before it certainly is now.

worth the effort? what effort? post on ad on craigslist and they will sell. shit man.

I'm sorry for not needing the money and rather donate my items. I'm also sorry for having a job 60 hours a week and not feeling like dealing with the runaround, scammers and spammers of craigslist.

what do you mean i can sell them? if i don't want to, i don't have to, it's my choice and i don't have to explain myself to you

donate them to school that might need them? what and get stabbed to death by minorities?!? even if i did put myself into that warzone, what am i suppose to do just walk up to the front desk and be like yo homie want some monitors?

what were you expecting out of this thread? there isn't much else you can do with them besides give them away or sell them.

hell set them at the end of your driveway and put a "first person to grab these can have them" ad on craigslist. they will be gone by the end of the day and you don't have to talk to anybody
I'm sorry for not needing the money and rather donate my items. I'm also sorry for having a job 60 hours a week and not feeling like dealing with the runaround, scammers and spammers of craigslist.
not needing the money? youre the one that is setting a minimum of $75. you can put the on CL for free and give them away if you want, theyll be gone within the hour. and unless you live in a shack in the middle of nowhere im guessing there are plenty of charities that will take those off your hands with a phone call or a simple drop off to goodwill. youre making this a hell of a lot harder than it has to be. you could have sold and/or donated the monitors since you started this thread if you had put in half an effort.

Is it really that hard to ask for ideas on what to do with them or an organization to donate to. Yes I do care about what happens to stuff I donate. I rather them be actually used by people who need them and not some packrat. And when I have had a gun pointed at me and my 1000 bike stolen, yeah, safety is somewhat of a concern when you live in Chicago. Do any of this warrant a holier than thou comment? I know there is and organization out there to put these in schools, I just need to know who.

And yea if the price is right (about 100 bucks) I'll sell them. I'm not stupid
Is that an attitude? That I would consider anything less than 75 dollars not worth the effort? I would consider that my right and really none of your concern
Your last post has nothing about 75 dollars. You asked about schools, I say your local one may even take them providing you an easy way to accomplish donating it to someone who needs it, and that's your response.

If you would rather donate then why not sell it for less than $75 and consider part of that a donation to the buyer. If you don't want to use ebay, craiglist, or classifieds then just give the thing away already if you're not going to bother googling it.

Nobody here is going to give you the name of a good organization for lcd monitors in chicago other than telling you goodwill, charity, or schools looking for them. If the closest schools are warzones, consider calling up one that is farther away.

At this point you should just google what you're looking for because you'd be saving a lot of time doing that than arguing with people about it on here and raising your prices.

I still don't get where you are picking this attitude up. They don't allow you to walk up to a school around here if you don't have an ID hanging around your neck. Your not allowed on school grounds if you not a student or have valid business there.

somehow i developed an attitude for not wanting to walk around aimlessly in bad neighborhoods trying to unload stuff to a school that might think im trying to unload trash to them. is it just snobbish of me to want an organized route.

No.

Can you do anything on your own or do you need the internet to walk you through every possible option of what you can do with your stupid monitors? For a busy man that works 60 hours a week, you sure seem to be dragging your feet and posting alot instead of actually doing anything.

I can post a lot because I have an iPhone. If you're going to be petty why don't you just go somewhere else. People ask for advice all the time. There no need to be a dick in life. Just move on to whatever you do.

Meh, it's my thread. I mean I get it. People on the Internet love to antagonize instead of being helpful. I just need a little help. Thats all. Im sorry if thats just too much to ask from a fellow human being. One person gets the wrong impression and all of the sudden people like to spring into attack mode. I know everyone goes into this mob mentality. I know it's fun. Pretty much calling me a racist for not going into the bad parts of town. But you know, whatever.

shosh - your replies gave the impression that you weren't really looking for suggestions. It seems like you want someone to verify that you could get $75 for them and tell you where you would go to get that price, without having to do any work.

Someone suggested Salvation Army - they resell stuff but then use that money for job training etc. Plus the person who buys it can reuse it. It's also tax deductible for you. It's probably the easiest way to get rid of them. When someone suggested giving to a school you simply shot the idea down. You can try other non-profits like a ymca or boys and girls club but they're probably not in need of just monitors - they would need a computer to use an extra monitor.

The other option is to sell it on craigslist. But you'll probably spend more time checking email, dealing with flakes, etc. to be "worth your time".

You'd be partially right. If I can get close to 100 that would be best. Thing with cl is that you price too low, you get no replies. Price it where you want it and people lowball you hard. I also don't want some stranger coming to my apartment either.

Did I crap on you in your first post? No. It's only after you pretty much called me a racist. At least j7 remained civil about it. If he had a disagreement that's fine, he didn't resort to being an antagonist like you.

Roll up in Cabrini-Green and go door to door trying to sell them. The residents there will be glad to take them off your hands.

A $1000 bike? You mean a bicycle? Damn. When I was a kid I wanted a bike, my dad got me some hand me down 1960's bike from his one buddy for $15-20. It was shocking orange and had a looping backrest behind the seat.

Paying more than $100 max for a pedal bike is just ridiculous.

So wait....before you were saying about how you don't need the money cuz you work alot and so on. Then you said your $1000 bike got stolen and now you're saying you have an iPhone. So sorry to say this, but you DO sound like a snob who's just trying to rub what you have in the faces of those who don't(like I'm sure many of us on CAG don't).

If you really wanted to do the altruistic thing and donate the monitors by now since you 'don't need the money' you would've done it a long time ago on your own.

I've never paid more than $100 for a bicycle, but, there are some custom bikes that are well worth over $100. Specifically, bikes that cater to larger people. (Not necessarily fat either...but those people that are just too tall/heavy for a standard bike.)

its different if youre serious about biking. its not a 1000 bike when i was a kid. i do bike every weekend and do about 30 miles on sundays. i bike to the grocery store to pick up grocerys and i would bike to work if it didn't make me sweaty. its actually an investment when you aren't completely dependent on a gas guzzler to get everywhere. i think its probably more snobby of people to drive across a parking lot to get to a store 3 doors down a strip mall.

and about the iphone thing, who doesn't have one nowadays.

Then again, I don't even have a cell phone, unless you consider an $8 pre-paid one that I haven't even activated or bought time for as of yet.

If I do more traveling than I currently do I might activate it, but to get locked into some long term expensive contract and/or pay more than $10 for a cell phone is a ridiculous concept to me.

When I go deal hunting I rely on my memory and/or a scrap of paper with stuff I want to check out written down.

Correct. It's something I wanted and I paid for it using money I made from my cheaply acquired last gen game collection, as well as trading in DVD boxsets to FYE that I got for 1/5th the price I was paid for each in credit.

I didn't really pay much out of pocket for my PS3.:D
