What to do with a bonus, but naked, 360?

CAGiversary!
Hey guys,

Sent my xbox in for repair due to a disc drive problem. They replaced the system instead of fixing it, however....

Microsoft sent me two brand new xboxes!:booty:

I want to sell the extra one, but it is just the console and power cables. I am missing everything else to make it whole to sell.

* I got the xbox live bundle deal from the guy on amazon market place so i have a headset for it.
* I have the hd/av video cords from toys' r us.... 9.98 on clearance.

Need a hard drive and controller. (all my local targets are soldout of the 20 gigs they had on clearance.)

SO.... should i bother to spend cash on the controller and hard drive...or sell "as is?" Any deals out there for a 20 gig hard drive and also a controller?

or...Don't be a douchebag, and try to remedy this by calling MS and pointing out their mistake, rather than trying to profit it from it

For what it's worth, i sold the one complete xbox with gta 4 for 300. I had bought an elite from dell before i sent my original xbox back. Just as microsoft sent me two xboxes, they have also sent me two data migration kits as well.:applause:

You forgot the option that says "Don't be a douchebag, and try to remedy this by calling MS and pointing out their mistake, rather than trying to profit it from it". When you add that choice, that's the one I'll pick.

If you are going to sell it, I would hold on to it until I was sure that MS doesn't figure it out and want it back. Nothing would be worse than selling it for say $250 missing items and having MS as you for the system back or $300 for the extra system they sent.

I mean, I'm sure they have tracking #'s and know where they are sending systems to.

keep us up to date with this. id like to hear what happens. this is an interesting situation and im gunna have a good laugh when u sell it n they want it back haha. its like reality tv... without the tv

No. Companies are faceless giants and deserve to be taken advantage of.

Just kidding. I still think he should sell it, but waiting a bit to see if MS comes up with something is a smart plan, since they probably have delivery confirmation of these types of things.

I'm snitching on the OP unless he sends me the console

OP is going to wake up and see a red beam pointed at his window with Master Chief ready to pull the trigger...

One time gateway sent two monitors to my dad with the computer he ordered. We ended up keeping both and nothing bad ever happened.
You should smash it and put it up on YouTube because that's what cool kids do.
Indeed. Make sure you and your friends giggle like little girls after you do it, as well.
They're coming for you, OP....oh yes, they are....
Bill Gates is going to send his nerds to "buy him out," isn't he?

Honestly, I'd probably call Microsoft and get the duplicate sent back to them. The extra system may end up causing you problems in the future. Especially if you sell it and the serial is linked to your service info.

Give it to one of your friends. You lose nothing, your friend gets an xbox and he/she will definitely owe you one in the future.

Everybody wins. And then if MS comes back to you and requests it back then you just get it back from your friend.

I know getting the money for it would be awesome, but with the possibility of getting fucked by MS, this is probably the best plan.

fuck that. Use it or sell it as is. No reason to put more money into it. You will only get diminishing returns.

Indeed, good point.

How so? He would contact MS, and they would send him a shipping label to send it back to them. If anything, he would have to waste a few minutes of his time to bring it to a UPS store. I don't see how any money would be put into this.

I agree. Give it to a friend to have it nearby in case MS comes calling or just straight up send it right back. These sort of things could potentially get hairy and I wouldn't want to take the gamble with that kind of money.

Give it to a friend and earn a solid

Yeah. How much is his soul worth?

thanks for all the posts, esp. the two trying to provide a deal on a hard drive and controller.

it's been 3 weeks now. nothing from MS. no email, call or letter. i think the responses about MS coming after the console are slightly unfounded. suppose they want it back, so what? i did nothing wrong, there was no fraud. it's their loss. morally, ok there is a point for debate. let me nip that in the bud by stating i am extremely devious and underhanded. an overstatement but i would not lose any sleep over screwing MS.

i tried using the serial/console number of the xbox in question on the xbox hard drive upgrade site and it came back with having a drive. i need to try the sold one to see if that works but am waiting on the numbers.

regardless the xbox hasn't been sold. there isn't any rush really, esp if somehow the worst happens. i have, since the beginning, thought of holding on to it for when my current xbox RRODs or just use it as an extra in my livingroom. FWIW, if.when i sell it it will go to a friend or someone i know. i never held the idea of putting it on ebay or craigslist.

thanks for the responses.

You know what you have to do, even if it pains you to do so but it's the right thing to do .

Give it to Strell!

Thanks for letting CAG know that, if you ever put up a trade list, they should never deal with you.

Yeah, pretty much. That wasn't the brighest thing to state... (his part, not yours)

They're putting the new cover sheets on all the TPS reports, though.

Before I even received my first RRoD system back I already had the new info entered into my profile. You've gone under the radar for the time being and may do so forever, but just because MS hasn't contacted you doesn't mean you're free and clear to do what you want. Regardless of your feelings/opinions of MS you're a thief if you keep the item. If you do sell/trade the system and MS catches down the way you'll have two choices:

1) Return the system you claimed as your own
2) Face the consequences of your stupidity

Sure we all would love for this screw up happen to us and most of us would be conflicted and want to go the way you're leaning. However, you know what the right thing to do is and if you choose the latter no one is going to feel sorry for you. You can do whatever you like, but you might want to stop running your mouth off in this thread because it'll bite you in the ass if your situation goes south.

Okay, I've seen this thread a hundred times, to end it, keep it, it is yours. Assuming you are American. Here is my source:

Look under the bold print saying unordered merchandise. Follow that and you are following federal law. You may be wrong morally, but you are right morally to keep it and do what you want to it.

1) I think you meant legally in the right to keep it.

2) Whether or not he is legally in the right doesn't negate the possible headaches it could create. One, as your page points out, the company could possibly send you unwarranted bills. Yes, the item is technically yours, but I think we all know that disputing nonsense debts can be a bitch and a half, and I would not, in my wildest dreams, put it past Microsoft to try to turn the screws on someone in a situation like this. Also, if he were to sell it to someone, Microsoft could give the new owner a problem trying to get service, and then that person may go back to the OP and want to know why.
