Before this happens i will be more then happy to cancel

any good deals for the net out there cause if not very good chance come may 15 im going bye bye and everyone will be sad cause no more crazy slidecage post LOL (though probally be back june 1 )

cause all you have to do is get disconnected for 48 hours and your considered a new customer again LOL how stupid is that

UPDATE MAY 9 2012

Well something i think is kind of stupid happen but it helps me out..

This is what my bill looked like right now

Digital starter 70 bucks
Internet 25 bucks going to 42 may 15
DVR FREE but going to 17 starting may 15
All movie channels free until thanksgiving
cable modem 7.00
and then 20 buck off promo

I called and called and called and was TOLD I WOULD NOT GET an extension on the internet the dvr or the 20 buck promo so i get ready to take it all down to the office but thought i give the online a try quick monday.

I was offered and took
Digital premere ? (its around 40 more channels ) + same iNternet for 69.99 for 1 year
DVR FREE UNTIL AUG 15 (3 months more)
ALL movie channels stay free until thanksgiving
and 10 buck discount on top of it for 1 year

So i was paying 85 bucks and was told that none of my promos would get extended BUT Then they offer me something with more channels for 75 a month for a year ...

so im getting more channels for less money LOL at least it worked out

Cable/internet prices are regional and a lot of new contract deals are based on introductory offers with low prices that increase every year.

us = roommates... we got dish back in 2006 the dude goes up on the roof using 2x too big screws .. doesnt check to make sure the dish is set up right before drilling leaving 4 major holes in the roof which we didnt know about until 3 days later when it rain. the dude then puts the dish up and then leaves. 30 mins later a loud crack comes out of the dish and it just stops working..

wait 2 weeks for another worker to come out and said the last person who put it up cracked the head of the dish we told them forget it and take their piece of shit. they said the would repair the roof until we said take the dish back, they refused to fix the roof. Took them to small claims court won

and here at least FIOS subcontracts the tv out under DISH TV they no longer do TV locally

i think i be more then happy going back to basic tv for awhile with no net.. get back to the good old days of the 1980s :)

Dump the cable completely and keep the internet.

Netflix streaming: $7.99/mo
Amazon Prime w/VoD $79/yr
Hulu Plus $7.99/mo
XBox Live CAG$40/yr
Redbox $1/DVD

All of the above is cheaper and much more valuable than cable TV.

I know you live with family or whatnot, but putting the obnoxious monthly fee for cable towards other forms of entertainment can easily be an improvement for everyone in the household. You can get basic channels for your TV with a digital converter box for

We pay 170 for Cable (with all Nhl games, hbo, starz, tmc, showtime, cinemax, and 2 hd dvrs), phone and 50mbs internet connection.

I mostly pay for FIOS TV for sports (along with phone and 35/35 internet), other than that I would probably go that route, but I doubt it.

Also, Hulu is rumored to be requiring a TV subscription in order to use their service.

So in Maine, my internet costs $30 per month and my speeds are 1.5/0.5 with Fairpoint DSL...I typically get either 1 or 2 bars on Hulu/Netflix/Vudu. We pay about $80 per month for DISH to primarily get BBC, SPEED, The Weather Channel, some movie channels, and some local channels.

Please recommend me something better, with no bandwidth caps.

No captions = no option. Hulu plus does, and "80%" of what Netflix users watch most doesn't either.

Paying $140 a month does suck for just digital cable + dvr + 15/1.5 internet though. It comes with Showtime/TMC and a ton of sports, but I don't watch sports.

Plus, I need BBC America.

hulu kicks ass when it comes to subbing shows holy shit its amazing and their subs are very good too. thats the one negative to netflix a number of their of their animes arent subbed and some of them arent complete like naruto or bleach. matter of fact they lost a season of naruto but hulu seems to have them all including the shippuden series.
anyone know the price plans on netflix with streaming ?

1 2 3 disc at a time
Streaming only is $7.99, streaming with 1 disk is $7.99 x 2.

im guessing

disc only

1 10
2 18
3 24
4 30
5 40

and is it 7.99 for any streaming or does it go higher the more disc you have

I pay $70 a month for 20mb down but I usually get 30-40 bc no one where I live uses DOCIS 3. I refuse to pay the outrageous prices that my cable company charges for TV service.

That's really good speed. I pay $30 for 25 down, but I've been topping out at 17.5 lately off-peak.

Netflix.com is a good source of this type of information, I would reckon.

First rule of SlideCage: never from the hores's mouth.

I realize it's slidcage, but I'm surprised nobody has offered this piece of very real advice yet. Rather than cancelling and doing the dance of becoming a "new customer" again (which from my experience only worked if the account was put in somebody elses name), why not call and talk to them? Tell them your bill is just too high, and you're planning on switching to another service. It's very likely they'll just offer you the "new customer" price for another 6 months or whatever it is. Then, when that 6 months is up, do it again. It's a hassle, but until these cable companies realize people won't just sit there an get ripped off, it's going to be necessary.

Yep, when I had Comcast I was able to do that every year and keep getting discounts on cable and internet by threatening to leave for satellite/DSL etc.

I got a few hulu questions as it seems you are in love with it. Can you share it? If I get hulu plus, can I play it on my ps3 and my laptop simultaneously? Can I give my login to a friend and have him use it at the same time? In a 30 min show, how many commericials? Commercials in movies? keyboard and mouse work with it on ps3? I was about to get it yesterday cuz I have no cable tv and only netflix so I need a little something else. Amazon stream was dissappointing as hell.

I like the Amazon streaming, but it would be useless if I already had Netflix streaming.

I don't use streaming enough to pay $8 a month for it so I switched to a disc only play last fall. Amazon streaming I wouldn't join Prime for by any means, but since I want prime for shipping and the one free Kindle book borrowing per month, the streaming is a nice bonus to use every once in a while.

I've watched a couple documentaries, and have been watching X-files season 1 here and there lately.

Sports.....sports....sports.....sports....sports...and more sports.

The only reason to actually have cable...without sports its worthless. When I can watch every live sporting event on a tv without a lot of jib jab then cable will cease to exist.

Yep, that's the only reason I have DirecTV. Especially for college sports where there just aren't good (legal) online options to see all my team's games.

Plus if you're into multiple sports all the pay streaming plans end up costing about as much as year of cable/satellite anyway, especially once you factor in needing Netflix, Hulu etc. to keep up with current shows.

There's no other cable companies in our area besides Comcast(due to a contract that the city here signed with the old provider, Adelphia), so the only other options for us are Dish/Directv for tv and Verizon for internet. I currently have Verizon for internet, but we don't have FIOS in this area as of yet. Otherwise I might consider bumping up to that versus the $20 a month I pay for internet right now for their base DSL(768kbps) speed. Then again, for another $10 I could go up to the 1.5mbps speed, but I'm too cheap to pay anything over $20 a month.

That's why I haven't switched to Comcasts' internet since I think $40 is their lowest tier.

As for cable though, the only channels I watch are Cartoon Network(mostly for Adult Swim), History Channel and Discovery Channel. Most of what's been on those channels lately has been repeats of shit I've seen 10x already, so right now I wouldn't miss them.As it stands we switched from a $60 a month tier a while ago to a $50 tier and due to frickin' rate hikes(another one recently again:roll:) we're back up to almost the $60 a month.

The only really good part about switching to the lower tier was that it eliminated all the fuckin' sucky sports shit off the lineup. Unless it was classic pro wrestling or the old American Gladiators on ESPN Classic I didn't watch ANY of those channels EVER.

o we tried that and they go nope ... then again we been getting deals for the last 2 years

why they wont offer us anything is they say

we have a internet deal for 24.99 normal price 42.95
not getting a break on cable
but getting HBO showtime cin and starz free for the last year

i will call them up one last time next weds before i just return the stuff to them but it seems like they wont budge this time

Apparently Verizon decided $20 a month wasn't enough for this shitty 768kbps DSL. They're upping my rate by $5 per month for this garbage. I guess maybe I'll be joining slidecage. Either that or I'm gonna switch to Comcast if they have a decent promo I can milk for a couple of years for $20 a month for the first year or so.;)

if you do it online they have a 6 month promo for 19.99 for good speed... if you call them its 29.99 for 6 months .

i figure if i cant get online i cant buy anything :)

Interesting idea. I could do without buying crap for a while too.;) I'll have to look into the promo though, since I definitely wouldn't mind a better speed versus this crap I have now.

Maybe I can get it to where I was with AOL when I was on dialup. If I paid for 2-3 months for the 2-3 years I was on there via dialup it was a miracle. Every month when the bill came due I'd just bitch about being disconnected and BAM....free month. I think I had about 6-7 months banked at one point.

Sorry, but Verizon only has you subscribe to DISH if you live in an area without fios. Also, if you don't have fios, you get their shitty DSL
