What was I thinking? - My horrible deal

Definitely not bragging, but I'll feel a little better if I hear other stories so I'm posting this here.

I have a bunch of older Xbox and PS2 games I no longer wanted. They weren't moving at all in Goozex and Gamestop only offered about $0.15 per game. I then sold them to a game store for $9 credit (Not the greatest deal, but better than staying with unwanted games collecting dust).

If my trade story ended there, no biggie, fairly happy ending, but here's where things begin to suck. I used the $9 credit and bought Fur Fighters (PS2) straight up ($9). A moment of rationality prompted me for a moment not to do it since I picked up Fur Fighters on a whim and didn't know much about it, but idiocy shined through and convinced me that the game was kinda rare and if I didn't like it, I could trade it off to Goozex.

Big mistake; Turns out I shoulda followed my instinct. Not only was the game scratched to hell (something that I always check but didn't this time), but even if it wasn't scratched, Goozex has it for 100 points with about 5 complete copies available and no requests. Not even sure if I can return it since I bought it from a private dealer out-of-town and I won't be in the area for awhile.

So I traded 11 games for an utterly worthless game. Would've gotten more enjoyment chucking the disks in the trash. Major : (

So what are your experiences. I can't be the only one to do such a regretful trade.

Edit: Added Games traded in
Brute Force
Burger King Games (Big Bumpin'; Pocketbike Racers; Sneak King)
Dead or Alive 1 (xbox)
Geist
Half-Life 2
Rise of the Kasai
Spartan Total Warrior
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Unreal Championship 2

Here's one that will make you feel better.

It was an early CAG trade, mostly done so my then-significant other would stop bitching about me hogging the DS and how much he hates lawyers and this and that and blah blah blah yakety smackety.

I traded a copy of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for God of War way back when, just before the first run of Phoenix Wright went out of print and people started scalping it.

Thankfully, I have since replaced my copy of Phoenix Wright, and have also found several other sets of the Phoenix trilogy to give to friends.

The significant other has also been replaced. (Ha!)

Keep those bad trade horror stories coming, folks! Make this chap feel a little better.

When I was a young'un, I traded Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Dreamcast) for NBA2K1 (Dreamcast) straight up.

MvC2 lives in infamy now, as we know.. and NBA2K1 is worthless. Literally.

Sold Snatcher Sega CD for 15.00 on r.g.v.m.
Sold Herzog Zwei on Sega Genesis for 40 (it's dropped now, but it was reselling for more.)
*Didn't* sell my original Watchmen comics or Batman Motion Picture anthology right as the movies came out.
Sold my Sega Saturn and about 8 games for 100 bucks.
Bought an HDDVD player, not only for full price, but in the 'unsweet spot' where you got only one free title instead of the 4-12 they later offered.

I still sell titles I'm not really interested in any more, but I'm more educated and have more venues to both sell for a more profitable price, and recover the item should I want to do so.

I think we all have our stories where we, shall we say, don't make the best decision as a consumer.

I traded Tales of Destiny II(PSX), Vagrant Story(PSX), Final Fantasy X + X2 black labels(PS2). My N64 with 3 controllers + Goldeneye 007 and a few other games. A few other PS2 and PSX games all for XBoX and Halo and 2 controllers.

Goddamit...

I think your first sign of a bad deal brewing was getting less than 10% back of what you probably paid for those games (11 games x maybe $10 or more = $110 spent minimum)

I would have donated them to that gamer's charity or something, because karma is def. worth more than Fur Fighters >_>

Bought a PS2 at launch, but the laser died just after the warranty expired.

Traded a handful of PS2 games that I had to Gamestop and bought an onyx Gamecube with the credit + cash. Also picked up a second controller (spice!) that day.

Now, don't get me wrong. I loved my 'Cube. I played the shit out of the damn thing, and played most of the excellent titles on it. I kept it for 7 long years, and even sold it here on CAG when I was ready to part with it. However, I had some seriously poor judgement on the day I bought my 'Cube. You see, I brought friends along with me when I made the purchase.

I bought my 'Cube in mid 2002. At the time, the following games were all available: Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Smash Brothers Melee, Super Monkey Ball, Resident Evil, and Eternal Darkness. Hell, even Mario Sunshine was right around the corner.

Thanks to the two friends I brought with me to the store that day, I left with NBA Courtside 2002.

I barely averted a bad trade-in once. I nearly brought a bunch (and I mean, a bunch as in tons) of old Xbox and PS1/PS2 games to Gamestop to trade-in, but decided to call beforehand to see what I would get.

Ended up that even the newest games in the collection would get me only about .30-$1.00. Ended up just leaving it where it was to look at.

I bought Guitar Hero 1 when it came out, played it for about 2 days, then traded it in. Apparently gamestop didn't have a TIV set for the guitars at the time and could only offer me like $0.75 for it... so I ended up trading in a $70(or more? can't remember) game for less than $15. To be honest I think alot of my past gamestop flips were pretty damn reckless... I halved my Xbox 360 collection not long after launch when gamestop offered a trade-2-get-one-free deal on 360 games... I'd like to think I weigh my options a lot more carefully these days. Perhaps it's just my imagination but it does seem as though their TIVs have improved... you think it would've gotten worse though since they're dealing with more product now.

Nothing really in particular stands out to me, but I have done my fair share of bad trades to GS/Funcoland. Back when I was younger I used to do whatever it took to get that new game or whatnot, including dumb shit like trading in 6+ games to get fucking Blinx.

Nothing stands out notably as far as bad trades with video games, but I have DEFINATELY made bad trades over time. I gave my friend my entire collection of sports cards for a soccer ball. In all honesty, those cards are probably not worth the hassle to sell at this point since everyone and their mother had baseball cards in the 80's and early 90's. However, that soccer ball was popped about a week after I got it thanks to an over excited dog wanting to play with it. She saved me anyway... soccer sucks.

Bad deals happen. I guess just because something is bad in the long run, it doesn't make it a bad thing. Live for today. You're going to be old and have arthritis some day and won't even be able to play video games. Your kids won't want your crap stuff since they have crazy holographic virtual reality games. At least Fur Fighters gave you a good laugh... at yourself. :)

I'm fairly certain that nobody can beat this...

I entered the military in 2003. I brought my games along to training schools with me in a CD case, but soon realized that I was never going to get the chance to play any of them. Hell, I didn't even have my systems with me so how could I? I pretty much figured that this was going to be the standard for the duration of my enlistment and so being broke from buying massive quantities of booze and cigarettes decided to just take my games into gamestop and get what I could get for them. No cases mind you. I thought I was growing up and that my interest in games would simply dry up (HOW WRONG)! Here are some of the games I traded that come to mind, all Playstation 1 and all black label:

Tale of Destiny II
Persona
Xenogears
Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX
Thousand Arms
Alundra
Alundra II
Valkyrie Profile
Vagrant Story
Legend of Legaia
Front Mission 3
Final Fantasy Tactics
Parasite Eve 1 & 2
Saga Frontier
Star Ocean: 2nd Story
Bust a Groove 1 & 2
Suikoden
Tomba 1 & 2
Symphony of the Night
Legend of Mana
Mega Man Legends 1 & 2

These are just the ones I'm truly lamenting over and which come to mind as I'm typing this, but there were a lot more (not all super rare like some of these though). I honestly don't remember how much I got for this load, but it wasn't much over a hundred bucks. I admit this travesty because I don't think anyone else can compete with such an idiotic move. Soon after my training, I realized that the majority of my enlistment would be spent in the middle of a lake with nothing to do but play video games... I'm now a civilian and trying to rebuild my collection at a snails pace because these damned games cost a shit-ton now. At least only my PSX collection fell victim, as I still have most everything else.

So I win(?)... hooray.... WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!??
Beat that stupidity!!!
Only $9..not a big deal lol
Yeah, seriously... that's really not a horrible deal if you're out $9.

What game's did you trade in?

Back when PS2 first came out I was in 7th or 8th grade. After getting my brand new Gran Turismo A-Spec console bundle I wanted nothing to do with that ancient Sega Genesis or Psx I had sitting by the TV. All I wanted was a shiny new PS2 game. So I took my Genesis with probably about 30 games and my PSX up to gamestop ready to cash out. Some of the games included Streets of Rage 1-3, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, all of the Sonic games, and more all complete. Gamestop offered me a whooping $20 dollars. Some guy in the store saw this and perused my box of games and offered me $30 for everything. Boy, that was a 50% increase! I hopped all over it thinking I was making out great and immediately turned and bought Timesplitters. It wasn't long until I got the itching to play some Zombies and SoR. The only reddeming part of this transaction was I decided not to take my Final Fantasy VII, Legend of Legaia, Hogs of War, Parappa tha Rappa and Klonoa up to trade in as well, thank god for backwards compatability.

I sold a near complete in box Chrono Trigger for 20 bucks. Though i'm at least happy it was to a friend and not to some random fuck on the internet. Plus I get to borrow Earthbound out of the deal too, which I consider a major win as it is

Traded in my LE copy of Fable 2 for about $10-$15. I actually regret trading in any of my games, now that I think about it. (Aside from maybe those terrible Xbox ones)

Thank God I was smart enough to not trade my games away as a child. So no regrets here. I only ever did one trade in... I think I wound up trading Evolution and Toy Commander for Dreamcast to put towards Shenmue (I think at the time those two got me enough to get Shenmue on credit). I've since bought both of those games back for $5 a piece, I'd say I actually did good.
i forgot to mention sailorneorune also sucks and scalpers rule
We interrupt this thread to bring you this asshole.

You forgot the purpose of this discussion - it is to tell stories of bad trades in an effort to make the OP feel at least a little better about himself in knowing that we've all screwed up.

It's not to wave your e-peen uncomfortably close to the faces of everyone in the audience.

Fail.

You failed for taking the bait. There's nothing more Slime likes more than trolling. Just don't take anything they ever post seriously.
You're right - he's a jerk.

Where's the ignore button?
Wish I could tell you, I'm not sure LOL. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

You'll understand why it's so funny if she comes back.

Back in the 90's I had the original front loading Sega CD and Genesis version 1 with about 30 games all complete including RPG's and whatnot. I traded them into a pawn shop for around $160. I wanted money for my PS1 and its games. Needless to say, I ended up buying most of those games back from ebay years later as I decided I wanted to have a collection of all systems and most games. Lets just say I spent more than that pawn shop gave me to get all the games back in the condition I had them in originally. Now I dont sell any of my personal systems or games.

I bought an HD-DVD drive for the xbox 360... Ended up buying only 1 other movie than the King Kong that came with it, and then it was announced that it was more or less a dead product, and I lose the receipt so I couldn't even give it to best buy or whoever was giving out 50 bucks for the thing, lmao.

I purchased Blue Stinger as my first Dreamcast game at launch instead of Sonic Adventure or Soul Calibur. I was 11 at the time but I still can't remember for the life of me why I chose to buy that piece of shit game...

I'm guilty of similiar foolishness. When I got my N64 not long after launch I bought blast corps instead of.. oh I dunno, Mario 64? Same thing with the gamecube... instead of some of those high profile nintendo games I bought.... turok evolution.

I bought a 360 HD-DVD drive off Ebay for $65 two days before they announced it was being discontinued...

I since have a nice collection of HD-DVDs, and I have an HD-DVD/Blu-ray combo drive in my PC, but I'm slowly moving everything over to Blu-ray. Just my little misfortune on timing a purchase.

I had a couple of bad trades!!!

Traded in a TurboGrafx Console with abot 40 games towards a 32X add on for my genesis.

Everything was boxed and mint and I got $40 trade in credit.

Sold Panzer Dragoon Saga for $50 and later realized it was worth much more.

lmao, oh I'm guilty of that too. When I got N64 at launch I think the only three games on it at the store were mario, pilotwings, and MK Trilogy... I got MK Trilogy! And then with original Xbox do I get Halo? Nope -- Dark Summit (thinking it would be like 1080 snowboarding) and circus maximus chariot wars...

Speaking of when the Xbox came out. I went in on Gamestops deal where you had to reserve two games. Was Halo one of them? Nope. I went with Tony Hawk 2K and NFL Fever 2002.
