What's the Best 3-Album Run in History?
Glad to hear someone else appreciates Mental Jewelry. Ed's lyrics on that album are so far beyond anything else I've ever heard. He addresses so many spiritual issues so eloquently in just 12 songs, it really helped shape the way I see the world.

Secret Samadhi... I can see why some people who were fans of the 1st two albums didn't get into it, but I love it just as much as the others. Lakini's Juice, Turn My Head, Gas Hed Goes West, Heropsychodreamer... all amazing songs. I'll admit there are a few on there that are harder too appreciate or might have made better B-Sides, but I still love it.

That, and they followed up with the excellent Distance to Here, which always makes a black sheep album a little easier to like :)

Let's not even discuss what came after #4, though...
I had a copy of Mental Jewelry on tape a few weeks after it came out (based on a recommendation from a friend who saw them on Headbanger's Ball or something). Later, when I was in college my fraternity sponsored a show in a freaking gym and the opening act was some guy in my house and his band. I was so psyched to see them - especially so close but they ended up playing only 2 songs from Mental Jewelry and the rest from the upcoming Throwing Copper so it was a bit of a disappointment not knowing 90% of the songs they played. They did stick around and get drunk though! I still have a couple guitar picks from that night...

Live would be my first choice for a thread called Good Bands That Got Shitty After the Lead Singer Had a Kid and Found Jesus.
Queens of the Stone Age, bitches. Hell; they had a four album run:

Queens of the Stone Age (Self-titled)
Rated R
Songs for the Deaf
Lullabies to Paralyze
Update that with Era Vulgaris and you have a hell of a run.
