What's the cheapest way to play world of warcraft?

CAGiversary!
I plan on buying the game and the expansion. My friends convinced me to start, but I don't want to sign up until the Burning Crusade is released. Now, time cards seem to be the best way to go, but the problem is finding them for cheap. Here have been my ideas

1) Use $20 off with Google Checkout after $50 spent at Buy.com
This would have been a great idea. Buy World of Warcraft for $20 and a 60-day time card for $30. If I factor in World of Warcraft being normally $20, then that's $10 for 60 days. Problem is Shipping kills it and Buy.com is out of stock, and Google Checkout doesn't work for items that are on order. If they come back in stock, this option may be viable soon.

2) Best Buy's Gamer Gift Card for the $5 off coupon. I'd buy 3 gift cards and put like $10 on each (it doesn't matter, each purchase is at least $10 anyway). In the end, that's $15 saved off of 3 items.

3) Some sort of combination? World of Warcraft at Best Buy with the Gamer gift Card for $15 seems to be the best deal. Same would go for purchasing Burning Crusade once it comes out. Does anyone know the best deal for the subscription cards? Best Buy WAS running them cheaper earlier in the month, and unfortunately I wasn't shopping back then. Does anyone know if that deal is coming back?

i'd say go for buy.com google checkout but best buy DID have wow 60 day cards for 19.99 at one point.

burning crusade is 39.99
and
wow is 19.99
and i think they both come with a free month so you will have 60 days off the bat.

What you can also do is have a friend send you a "10 Day Trial Account Key" and when that expires put in your WoW CDKEY and that will give you 70 days.

I guess the cheapest way to play is to use your friend's account. You could take turns with him or her. That you just pay for the extra character.

From time to time Best Buy will put their 60 day time cards on sale for $20, stock up when they do that. Last time around I bought three cards.

That would be smart, but we'd like to play together.

Does anyone know if or when Best Buy is going to have the cheaper cards again? Even $25 for 60 days wouldn't be that bad since you could then use a gamer gift card to knock that down to $20.

Also, google checkout doesn't work with preorders or back ordered items, so wow doesn't apply toward the discount either (at least right now it doesn't).

And the weirdest thing is the time cards are 1 per customer at buy.com, so you can't just buy two and get the discount with google checkout!

Furthermore, shipping costs kind of kill the deal since they charge you $4.40 to ship the card. Even if you could order two and get $20 off, you're sitll paying $9 to ship both of them, so it's an $11 discount.
120 days for $49 shipped = 12.50 per month, which is not much better than doing the 6-month deal with Blizzard at $12.99 per month

Burning Crusade is just an expansion. I highly HIGHLY doubt that it will add a free month.

No other expansion in any MMORPG sold as a non-standalone gave a free month.

Yup, no free month with BC

cheapest way would be playing on a private server. but there isnt any fun doing that.

I dont play WoW, but I can tell you that if you are adicted to the game, the extra $5 or $10 wont even matter. Its what my friend told me.

Cheapest way is to NOT play :)

If you want 2 years worth of play for cheap, buy my darn accounts.... I just want to sell them instead of deleting them.

Seriously,... it killed my life, wasted my time, and scarred me for life :) LOL
It's just a job playing for me now, so good luck:)

Merry Merry :)

My room mate has five accounts which he plays simultaneously. He hasn't tired of it yet and has five copies of burning crusade reserved as well. Obviously, it's tough to get him downstairs to play the Wii usually. Even though he has a good time, he feels the pull back to his computer!

You can also prepay through Blizzard and get a cheaper rate. That's the cheapest way to do it if you know you're going to keep playing.

It's a really good game, but IMO kind of a rip off since offline RPGs are SOOOOOO much cheaper.

Why would you get the burning crusade without a level 60 already pre-made? The amount of stuff added for lower level characters is pretty thin. The only fun that I can think of being had at a lower level is starting a Blood Elf or Drenai from scratch.

Yes, that's exactly why I'm starting from scratch. Blood Elves = Hoard Paladins. I won't be a low level forever :p I already have level 60 friends that can get me some good gear as I progress through the lower levels.

Not a problem, I became an experienced MMO player about 7-8 years ago. I have already learned how to control the addiction, it sounds like that's really all you need :bouncy:
