What's the first racer you remember playing?

Can't remember too well. Think it was an arcade of Outrun. That game with the red sports car with the couple in it. Possibly excitebike if that counts.

Either Pole Position or RC- Pro Am..I remember watching my dad play RC-Pro Am with the power glove and being amazed.

Anyone remember a game called Vette (I think) for computers? I dunno if it was a game actually, maybe just athing where you drove around aimlessly. I remember though that you could change the gravity, and I had loads of fun launching over hills with like, 1% gravity. Good times.

I think it was Pole Position in the arcade, although it might have been some old Atari game at my aunt's. I vaugely remember some type of drag racing game, but I can't remember if it was her's or someone else's.

What was that old 3D arcade game with the cool chair that swivels into an encompassing cockpit? Hard-Drivin'?

Oh, how I miss arcades.

Race Drivin'?

Some racing game I have no idea what the title was/is. My neighbor had a console and I had no idea wtf it was. I just remember that it was like the arcade but on the tv. When he died his wife gave me it...it was an Odyssey²
Race Drivin'?
After a quick googling... Seems Race Drivin' is the sequel to Hard Drivin' (in a series of three.)
Probably Excitebike. Maybe Pole Position, but I cannot remember.
Hmm, Excitebike, didn't think about that one. Though, personally, I don' think I'd consider that a racer. Though it is a motorcycle race... I dunno what I'm trying to say.

My first racer was Enduro for the Atari 2600. Loved that game.

Also to the person who mentioned Vette! ... that was a great game. I played that for hours and hours on my Mac II. My favorite part was when you were pulled over by the cops and you had to choose from a list of excuses to get out of it. That was also one of the first games that mapped an entire city (San Fran) and let you drive seamlessly throughout it. That game was WAY ahead of its time.

Wow, I can't believe how many people began with Pole Position. It was one of my first, but I don't think anyone's mentioned Indy 500 (also known as Race) for the Atari 2600. That was definitely my first racing game and I can't be alone on that one.

Edit: I see that SilentShadow also got his start on Indy 500.

Man, I feel old.

First one I remember playing is Night Driver on a 2600 demo kiosk at K-Mart. First one I ever owned and played a lot of was Turbo on the Colecovision complete with the steering wheel. That's right, a wheel for a home console in '82.

Heh, I am right there with you but I can't remember if I played Turbo or Sprint first...

RC Pro-Am 2 on the NES... worth tracking down a working Four Score.

Upgradeable vehicles, a variety of tracks...

the goddamned slingshot AI.

Good times. :)
For me, it was R.C. Pro-Am on my babysitter's NES, sometime in the late 80s.

What about you?
When I saw this thread title, my first thought was Monaco GP (or whatever for the Genesis... liked the graphics, hated the game)... but then I thought about it and RC Pro-Am came to mind...

Although it could have very well been Offroad or Outrun too.
