What's the point of having games in reference?

Hmm, It never even crossed my mind that it would throw the search function off...I'm taking mine down. I just thought of it as a way to show off your collection or maybe as a list of stuff you would trade but only for something you HAD to have.

For dickheads to screw up the search engine. I can't see why else they would put put games that aren't for sale or trade in a selling/trading forum.

Along with reference lists, I wish people would do away with listing everything they've ever traded or sold. It's completely unnecessary and also screws up the search function.

I have no idea if it's possible, but it sounds like a good solution for all parties would be to disqualify Spoiler text from searches. That way people can still have their reference list and it doesn't throw off the search.

As someone who has a reference section, I'll admit its mostly to show off, but also occasionally I'll trade things from there which I don't consider as actively for trade. Additionally, people can see if I already have something before offering it.

I agree that it would be neat if spoiler tagged text was excluded from searches, since that's where mine is.

It's not about being a "dickhead" though, come on.

I gave up on searching trade lists. Hopefully the trading marketplace launches soon and takes care of these problems, but I can still see people putting things in their lists that they don't intend to trade just to brag.

I haven't been actively buying/trading/selling here for a long time because the system is so user un-friendly. Reference lists is just one of the issues I have, people seriously need to get rid of that.

Bumping this with the suggestion of adding a line under avatars for a link with wishlisht/collection added to it.

I was going to post about the stupid reference and prior trade stuff too (it's lame when half of my search results end up being stuff under reference or prior trades), but glad I looked at old topics first and found this. Removing spoiler tags from searches would not do much good either since lots of people put their trade lists in spoilers that are broken down by system.

When I was really active on the trade forums, people would always offer me DS games I already owned. I have a list of games that I either have or have already played and am not interested in (which is a really long list), with big red text asking people check it before offering me fucking Mario Kart DS for the 7th time. They'd still do it, though, so a lot of good it did...

The reference lists are to help possible traders. I only own exclusives for the PS3, and I own a lot of them. I need to put that list there, otherwise, I get offered games I already own by everybody. This way, people can look at the list, and then not offer me games I already own and waste our time.

And quit acting like this is the only thing that makes the search engine useless. The worst offenders are the people who post "CML for xxx". Then it appears in the thread, but never gets deleted. I say get rid of those guys before getting rid of the reference lists.

But I will have to agree that keeping a list of stuff already sold is stupid. That serves NO purpose.

Can someone explain what the reference list is? Is that "my collection"? If so, I don't want to have anything that screws someone up. Pardon my ignorance.
Why would you have it? So people know what you own and they don't continue to offer you things that you already have.
Why not just link to your collection either here, at IGN, or some other place that you have it? If people are too lazy to click a link to see your collection, then they are probably too lazy to check your reference list anyway.
