What's wrong with my Altec Lansing iPod dock?

For a while now, whenever I try to use my Altec Lansing M602BLK iPod dock it makes these loud popping noises every couple seconds as if the songs are skipping. For a while I could stop it by keeping the screen on my Nano lit up all the time but now that I have an iPhone that doesn't work anymore. Also, if I wait a couple weeks in between uses it goes much longer (about a half hour) before the problem comes back when used. I don't know much about speakers so I don't know what it could be. Anyone know?

Does this only happen with an iPhone? Try putting it in airplane mode as a test.

It happens with my iPod Nano too, so I don't think it's the iPhone's fault. It started happening long before I got my iPhone.
