What's YOUR Difficulty of choice? (truth time)

Most genres on normal and if I enjoyed it enough to replay, it could go higher if its avaliable. Sometimes, I'll also attempt "No Healing Items" or something like that on a playthrough if Im looking for that much of a challenge.

The only game type of games where I start on the hardest difficulty are some FPS, especially Call of Duty.I always figured if you were going to get shot with a small burst of bullets, your character should go down. What really irks me are some friends of mine who think they're better than everyone else because they can run up to the enemy and shoot them point blank while taking two clips with min damage.

FPS games, usually one level above "normal" (Hard/Heroic/whatever)
Rhythm games (ie Rock Band) - one level above normal (Hard)
Everything else - usually normal

Usually normal or hard, sometimes make it more difficult for achievements. I never played a game that was so challenging that I had to play it on easy.

I generally go for normal on my first run through of a game, and then ramp it up to hard. On Halo 3 I went through on Heroic, and now I'm starting to get back into so Co-op legendary.

For games like Rock Band, I play guitar on expert, drums on hard/expert (I can do just about any song on hard but only about half on expert), and vocals on hard/expert.

Almost always normal, with the exception of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, which for me are just boring if played at a level below Hard. Not because I'm great at them, but the tracks move so slowly on Medium I don't even get the illusion I'm playing a song.

I always go for normal, if i beat it fairly easily may try for higher, but im pretty much a normal kinda guy ;p.....

Easy/medium the first time through a game, always. If I find it too frustrating I'll quit and come back in a few weeks starting on Easy. After beating on another play through I'll always try the next hardest or hardest.

Normal, unless its a game I've played a lot before and want some challenge, in which case i'll go to hard.

Depends, if its an FPS (and I know I'm not getting into anything with a compelling story) I'll play on Hard, it also lengthens the game and makes it more awarding (especially COD). If its a game that I want to experience i'll play on Normal... Pretty much only hardcore shooters where the whole point is to kick ass (Gears, COD, Halo ect.) I'll play hard. Everything else is normal... I'm playing Farcry 2 on normal.

Normal, then I make adjustments. For fighters, I leave it at default, then once I get used to mechanics, bump it straight to max.

FPS - Normal or Hard.
Everything else - Normal

I play through normal, and if I really liked the game I'll try playing it on a harder difficulty setting.

I play basically all games on normal. The exceptions are Madden/NCAA football which I play on hard and music games which I also play on hard. Like a lot of people here I'm more frustrated by excessive difficulty than getting anything out of it.

Play on normal and then the second time round if i want to play the game again i have it on the highest setting.

It seems most people have the same plan as everyone else lol.
I always start on normal and adjust difficulty as needed.
same here

Capcom action games - Easy
RPGs with adjustable difficulty - Normal and/or Hard (final boss in FE9 was cheap in Hard, though)
DDR - Light/Basic, but gradually easing myself into Standard/Difficult
Just about everything else - Normal

I'll admit, I recently went through a phase of trying to prove myself during gaming. Now my difficulty settings go as follows:
War-style FPS (Halo, CoD): hard (or in halo's case: heroic), would play on the hardest difficulty if I like the game enough
Horror shooter: medium/normal
RPG: normal
Guitar Hero/Rock Band: hardest and/or hard

I want to play games more for the story than the action (especially for RPGs and story based horror) so I usually play normal now.

It really depends on the game for me. I tend to play FPS games on the highest difficulty, but I often play adventure games on normal. If it's a game I want to speed through I might pick easy, but that's rare.
