Whats Your PS3 Purchase Story?

I purchased my 80 GB PS3 at Blockbuster. It came with Motorstorm, Surf's Up on Blu Ray, HDMI Cables, PS3 Blu Ray Remote, 1 controller, and 20 free Blockbuster PS3 Rentals.

It all started when Walmart had a secret sale for an HD-DVD player at $99.
I ended up buying one because it was a great deal (and HD-DVD was still somewhat alive back then) and realized I didn't own an HDTV. So the girlfriend and I dropped $400 on a 26" Vizio LCD for the HD-DVD player. We thought everything was good then, I even brought my 360 to my room to hook up to the new HDTV.
A few weeks passed and there was talk of another secret sale involving PS3s.
Now I have pretty much any system out right now to begin with, so I figured I'd apply for a credit card and if I was approved for a decent amount I'd grab the PS3 since I'd buy one eventually anyways. Approved for way more than I should have gotten (which is now maxed, thank you irresponsible self spending) so I decided to go for it.
Dropped almost $900 that morning on HDMI cables, Component Cable switch box, some DVDs and a DS game for the girlfriend so she wouldn't be TOO pissed at me, a 120GB hard drive for my 360, Pirates on Blu-Ray and, of course, an 80GB PS3.
So fast forward a few months and I have a PS3 I never play with 4 games I never play, a few games I already sold and about three dozen Blu-Ray movies I never watch anyways.
Why the hell did I buy this damn thing?
Oh yeah, for the 10 free Blu-rays that was a part of the secret sale. hahaha. (Note: Beowulf & Grendel sucks and was a waste of a free movie)

Meh, My storys a little dull but here goes

I had 420 bucks exactly on me a couple months ago and was in circuit city with full internet access in my home and here were my options

1.) PS3 40GB w/ Spiderman 3 (tax bacame 20 bucks so it was 419.99) and no games

2.) XBOX 360 premium w/ marvel ultimate allience and some other game (the holiday thing) with two 60 $ games (or maybe a 60$ and a year of gold because of tax)

I was doing ups and down and heres what I came up with:

PS3 ups:

Free Online
Better Graphics
Very low (below 1%) failure rate
Rush of games hitting in 2008-2009
5 Free Blu-Rays (150$ USD adding up to-6 if you count spidey)
Blu-Ray Player
Resistance
Web Browser

PS3 Downs:

Worse Online
No GOW
Expensive
No games at purchase
Online is terrible if you are using wifi (screws up router)

XBOX 360 Ups:

GOW
Better online
3 games at purchase
Cheap

XBOX 360 Downs:

Online costs $
Next Gen format playback costs $
No Web Browser to speak of
Wireless costs $
25% failure rate

I decided on ps3 for the reason that while I was waiting to buy an actual game I could get some network demos as research and maybe get warhawk, full video playback on web browser was nice, and against the XBOX 360 for the sole reason of 25 % failure rate ( I know rebate, send it in but I just dont like worryin about that stuff) and if you add up the hardware to make a 360 have almost all the same features its gonna run you 550 bucks (including gold card and excluding game) + the HD DVD player sucks balls.

In August 2007 I went to Amazon.com, bought a 60GB with overnight shipping for $515. Three weeks earlier I bought the Bluetooth remote, another SixAxis and All Pro Football 2K8 to get ready for it. I got the 5 free Blu-rays a few months ago too.

Tried to hold off on getting a PS3 but with the 60GB being discontinued and Warner going BR, I went looking for 60GB before they were sold out and impossible to find. Found a new one at Kmart the first week of 2008

got a 20 gig three days after release. Got blockbuster game pass. played and beat Resistance and NFS. Did blockbuster movie pass. Rented every blue ray I wanted to see. Returned to best buy as there wasn't much coming out in the next year that I wanted to play.

Then I got the 80 gig during the walmart black friday deal. Buy system get any ten blue rays for free as well as the 5 mail in and the 1 for taking the training course. if you value a Blue Ray movie at $30 then thats 16x30 = $480 or I got the PS# 80 gig for $20

I got my 80 gig recently when I had a nagging yearn to play old PS2 games and watch BluRay movies. I also had a Mario Galaxy player---I mean---a Wii which I sold on eBay to some soccer mom moron for $435 dollars. I was pretty let down with the Wii and figured someday it'd meet the fate of the Gamecube and I'd pick up what I wanted on the cheap later. Walked into Gamestop and the guys there hooked me up with one that had a hole in the box. I stopped them and was like, "Can I get one that doesn't have a huge hole in it?" They didn't notice it either at first so we laughed it off and they got me a new one. We kept talking and the dude was telling me about how they'd have to either sell it for cheaper or send it back. I said if it looked good and ran I'd take it for cheaper possible. Opened it up, all good, bought it for $50 off original price and it has been running like a champ. Must have just had something penetrate the box during shipping. It's treated me well thus far. And my PS2 library of 14 games that I've bought since have played just fine as well. Oh yea... some of the PS3 games are decent as well. Still play the 360 a lot tho.

new ps3 40gb owner. ~1week

got the 40gb at amazon gold box %5 trick from slickdeals. total ..... = $279.99
Free shipping, no tax, %5 amazon gold box, $100 chase sony card.

then i sold spiderman 3 just now on ebay for $15.00 shipped. My credit card has 0% interest but will pay it off on first billing cycle. $100 credit hit 5 days after I bought it so no need to worry about rebates or stuff like that. Also made it in time for the 5 free blu ray movies which will promptly go to ebay.

the only game i got was all pro on the ps3 and i quickly turned that off. that is NOT 2k5. must close my eyes had forget i played 2k8.

this was 1 week ego, after saving for like 2 months i finally get enough money to get the 80GB with moterstorm, me and my mom "Chef" run to GameStop. Chef being herself walks in front of me and askes the guy at the front if there was any sales going on. omg, you know the answer, i than walk up to the counter and say i would like to buy a 80GB Playstation 3. the guy says " I am sorry but Sony has discontinued the 80 GB PS3. than i got pissed, i asked them to look at see if any other gamestops in the area had any. he looks it up and none have any. so we leave. chef drives me to a near by walmart. it was the first time walmart was soled out of PS3s in a long time. later we get out a phone book and call all places that cave a chance of having one and none did. later that knight my family aight at toco bell. on the way beck we stopped at block buster to rent a game for my Xbox 360. when i walk in i see an 80GB PS3 box to make a long story short wy got it and whent home. i had many Freezing probims, and with weired black screen. i called sony and they fixed it by telling my to restore the default settings. this day sucked but it was worth it.

Sat outside Best Buy for 3 days and 2 nights.

There were around 100-120 people in line and they only got 26 PS3's. And I was number 26. You know how scary it is being number 26? With 84 other people behind you wanting you to die?

My GF was number 25 and sold her spot in line for 300 bucks. I got stuck with the 20gb, which I still have today. I hope I can trade it in this year for a White model.

Whaaaaaat.....that's even better than nabbing any game console :D

I read the news HD-DVD was on its way out (I owned a toshiba A2 player) I put it up on ebay ASAP, sold it for $150.

I then saw that sony was giving a $100 credit if you get their sony card and buy a sony product over 299. so the PS3 went from 399 to 299. - the 150 I got for my HD-DVD player, out of pocket cost was 150 bucks. combine that with teh 12 months of no interest the sony card ALSO gives... and its a hell of a deal (20 bucks a month for a new PS3?! why not)

PS> I only got this for the blu-ray player, I have a 360 in which I play games, but when some good games finally come out exclusively on ps3 I'll be able to play them, which is a nice side effect.

Bought my 2nd PS3 last week on Craigslist, got the 60GB model, 2 controllers, HDMI cable and 5 games for $375.

Sold my 40GB for $300 on Craigslist, 3 of the games for $75 and came out ahead as far as I'm concerned.

Saw the Kmart deal on here to get $100 off. Picked up an 80GB on 11/16/07, then used the $15 off coupon on the receipt to get Uncharted.

Yea, she sold it to a guy that works at Sony...

I Still don't know his full story. He was a little weird about it... Lol. Microsoft spy?

I definitely agree with: Uncharted, Ratchet, Resistance and Warhawk.

Beat Uncharted. A little frustrating but lots of fun! Cannot wait for more games like that!

I just picked one up after playing Xbox 360 for the past year. I decided once I got my tax returns back that I would buy one. I walked into Gamestop and bought the 40GB as well as Uncharted, Resistence, and Ratchet & Clank. I also picked up Devil May Cry 4 for the 360. I'm only going to be playing PS3 exclusives and watching blu-ray movies on mine.

Not really a story.

i simply bought the 60 gb ps3 in june when amazon had the get 5 free blu-rays, resident evil and a blu-ray remote. I sold my remote and resident evil for 45 bucks, sold my 5 free blu-rays for ~15 bucks each, then sold my slim ps2 on ebay for 140 bucks bringing downt the total to 240 bucks paid for a 60gb ps3. then I didn't buy a single game and just rented blu-rays on netflix free for a month then blockbuster free for a month, then I waited til they amazon had buy 1 get 1 free on blu-rays and bought movies for ~7 bucks after dvdsave5 and price adjustments. I bought assassin's creed for 27.99 with bestbuy coupon. played that and then sold it on ebay for 35 bucks. SO basically I didn't spend that much money on a ps3. been playing ps2 games upconverted and playing demos off of PSO. I plan on buying devil may cry for 50 bucks then selling it after I beat it. I'll rebuy assassin's creed and devil may cry when they are 15 bucks or cheaper greatest hits used later on and i'll do that for every other game that's not rare. I don't understand why people keep games if they can sell it for a good price now. Later on they can always buy it again.

The minute I found out Sony was discontinuing the 60 gig model, I saved up as much money as I could and ended up getting it several weeks later from Amazon. They had a deal where you get the PS3 and 3 movies from the selection list, and still be eligible for the 5 free movies offer, all for under $480, which around that time the price was still at $600. The deal was too good to pass up and purchased one immediately (which was good since it became out of stock later that day). Very simple story as to how I got this system, and I have no regret whatsoever for being a PS3 owner. The machine had some amazing games and the line up for this year clearly makes it a year for Sony. Love it.
