When did megaman become a robot?

I had played mega man a few days ago and it was relatively easy, but I got bored after going through a whole level then dying at the boss and having to restart again. I then played mega man 2 and beat it. In that game it didn't seem to mention whether he's man or robot. Then, today, I decided to go back and play the first mega man. I beat that and, during the ending, his suit comes off. You then see a guy (well borderline kid/man) running, and then coming up to a house where a girl (his girlfriend?) and dr light are waving at him. It then ends. At what point in the series did he stop being human? I was going to continue playing 3 and 4 (I still need to buy 5 and 6), but they proved too difficult as it seemed to take multiple continues just to get past some of the regular levels I tried.
He isn't human, the blue suit is a modification. He originally had a humanoid appearance.
Oh, I just thought it was one of those instances where they just decided to change the plot and hoped no one noticed.

I've only really played the NES ones, but I really thought he was human. Does anyone maybe have an old instruction book for the 1st MegaMan? It ought to tell us there what their intentions were for his story at that point in time.

I've always thought he has always been a robot. Oh, and the girl in the 1st one isn't his girlfriend...it's Roll.

He has always been a robot. He was created. And I seriously doubt that an old instruction book would help, or mean anything for that matter. Proper translation and story accuracy wasn't exactly at the top of the list back then. As evidenced by the god awful art work on the box of the first US Mega Man game, where he does appear human. This may be part of what caused the confusion of thinking he was human.

Oh god, I just now got it (assuming Roll is called Roll in Japan) Rockman and Roll, Rock & Roll :wall:

I didn't think of that until now. I just checked the book, it says:

"Dr wright, and his assistant dr willy, encouraged with their very first near-human robot - MEGA MAN - proceeded to develop six additional humanoids, all programmed to perform prescribed rituals."

Though I don't think that girl is technically roll, she may later become roll, but no mention of her, or even a second "good" robot, is made in the manual or game. Then again, it could just be that she didn't make the u.s. manual.

And Bass....and Trebel....

And Forte... and Piano.

EDIT: Lawl at myself. I thought I was being witty, naming the Japanese equivalents for Bass and Treble, until I realized I was completely wrong. Piano is definitely Gospel.

:Nerd Powers On:

I'm pretty damn sure that originally, Mega Man was created as a robot to do house chores, just like the other 'evil' bots from the first game. These robots were obviously taken overy by Dr. Wily. After the first game, Mega Man felt human but knew he wasn't, so Dr. Light somehow turned him human before the second game and he's been a man ever since.

I get this info from the Worlds of Power novel that was written about Mega Man 2. I'm assuming it's the official story as these books were licensed by Nintendo.

If anyone is DYING to know I can probably get my hands on the book again and check.

Although I believe that is the jist of the story, I still trust nothing that isn't straight from Capcom, even if it is Nintendo.

There are so many fanfics out there taken as gospel that is ridiculous.

If you look on the label art on mega man 1+2 he looks like a man with a gun. It's not till the art work on 3-6 that he looks more like the mega man we all know.
