When is the best time of the year for CAG?

CAGiversary!
*This post is mostly asked to the veterans who've been here at least 2 years but anyone feel free to answer my questions! Thanks!*

You know how like the best time for the best video games is usually in the fall? To any veterans I ask, when are the best deals for videogames? The reason I ask is because I have about $200 in Gamebucks from Gamestop and $275 in store credit from TRU.

1) I remember that TRU or Amazon (one of them) had a Buy 2 Get 1 Free off all Greatest Hits. Does that happen in the fall?

2) The $8.96 Circuit City sale was one of the greatest sales ever. I've only been here a few months though, so I don't know. Was that CC sale truly something "special" or does something great like it come along once in a while? I just want to know if I should or shouldn't expect anything like that ever again.

3) Has there ever been any sort of promotion with portable games, GBA/DS/PSP the way console games always get? You know, like Buy 2 Get 1 Free or B1G1 or whatnot.

I'd say late June - early July when Circuit City does their summer clearence. Nothing will ever beat the awesomeness of the 2004 sale when there were over 100 good titles for 4.99 each. Also, the Toys R Us green tags also start up around that time in early July.

Over the past couple of years December has also been a great Toys R Us month. Green tag games are highly discounted, and other games are added to that list and marked down.

Agreed. That was the summer that my collection got seriously out of control.

TRU B2G1F for the last 2 years have been around Oct-Nov. this is a good chance to pick up new releases that you just can not wait for, or titles that seem to take forever to drop in price.

CC clearance. gamers' heaven!!!

handheld promos are less so, GBA games sell incredibly well. wait for the CC clearance on this.

you should keep an eye out for Target clearances as well. Wal-Marts too, but that's YMMV.

personally, as a CAG, best time of the year for me is winter. holidays and less sunshine usually translates into gaming time.

TRU's holiday clearance was pretty solid last year, but overall, I'd say the summer is the best time, just for the CC clearance alone. I was only able to get a few decent games in 2004, did alright again in 2005, but 2006 was amazing for me. First sale that I was able to get everything from my want list (about a dozen games) and make a trade for one that was missing (Drill Dozer). Also, BB had an online clearance last year, and FYE ran a not-so-shabby online sale late in the summer.

Hopefully some company comes up to bat this holiday season with a good sale, but I'm not optimistic.

Probably summer. All those stores have clearance sales and DDD.com has their 20% too. Also, we're always broke in the summer time because of these.

My collection always grows the largest during the summer (great sales and deals), but I also clean out crappy titles from my collection during the summer as well.

Summer, it's usually when a lot of stores mark down their games. Holiday season is usually the worst, cause that's when companies decide to jack up the prices on their games. Who the fuck wants to pay $30 for Dino Crisis 3 used at christmas time?

Summer. Ahh the 2004 CC summer clearance extravaganza sale! 80 different games at $5 a pop. I'm still playing through some of them.

Black Friday tends to be good for new releases, etc. and some good deals can be had

Fry's all the time. You just never know with them when they burst out a crazy good ad the week, though it tends to happen around holidays, etc.
