When is the best time to buy an HDTV?

I'm about to buy by first HDTV.

I was wondering when would be the best time to grab a deal.

Now, before Christmas?
After Christmas, but before the Super Bowl?
Or after the Super Bowl.

Anyone know when the real deals go down, or have experience with the best time to get one.

Prices will continue to go down as time goes on.

You usually can find some great after Christmas deals, pre-superbowl.

Yea, I wouldnt wait longer then after the Super Bowl.

They say the LCDs will be getting dirt cheap after the new style LCDs come out later next year, but they said the same thing last year and while the price of HDTVs decreased a tiny bit, they never got lower then the sale prices around Xmas and Super Bowl sales.

Black Friday until Chrismas has some good sales.

Before the super bowl has some bood sales.

Otherwise it's random sales through out the year--i.e. when a model's on close out as it's been discontinued for a newer model. I got my Sony 50" e2000 series for $999.99 in June 2007 as Sony's new line of LCD RPTVs was rolling out and stores needed space.

Coffee Edge is right. Prices continue to drop as time goes on and as the technology and production improves and newer models come out, but the Black Friday through after Christmas sales are usually the beginning and get better the longer you wait and closer you get to Super Bowl.

However, this year, with the economy being far worse than usual and sales down significantly, the word is that the last weekend before Christmas and through that week, retailers are going to be slashing prices like crazy. So keep an eye out then, and if you find a really outstanding deal don't be afraid to jump on it.

Right after Christmas is usually tough, because most stores will be out of stock on almost everything. Around mid-January is when it stars picking up again.
