When is the Segaton announcement?

Yeah, segas "super, amaizing" announcement should be tomorrow as well as nintendo's proipheral (Sp) for the Gamecube that they are going to announce.

Edited for Irony.

lol, you shouldn't have admitted to that. I thought it was just a typo.

Any guesses to what it going to be?

new system is the speculation.

Knowing sega it probaly be something kick azz.

Interesting whip. As much as i hope of it being another system, i cant really see it. Sega has finally gotten into the black .

I HOPE its NOT a console. I love my DC more than any other system, but i do not want to see them fail. and they would fail. They dont have the $$ of either sony or MS, and dont have the console record of Nintendo.

I'd rather them continue making good games and not blow money on something thats really cool yet no one will buy.

Sega allready anounced the Matrix Online. Why would they say they have a secret anouncement if its for something that everyone allready knows about?
Sega allready anounced the Matrix Online. Why would they say they have a secret anouncement if its for something that everyone allready knows about?
It's called hype. Sega's notorious for it, and regardless of whether or not it's the Matrix Online, just be prepared for a huge letdown. Everybody's so excited about a new console or a handheld or a merger, but I think it's going to be something much more mundane like a game title announcement.

Why would you buy a new sega system. So they can discontinue it and leaved no support for it. Say dreamcast. I hate sega for that. Those bastards they had a good thing and they just jumped ship! Good for them means more people for Sony and the box. Nintendo will be the next to follow suit. They will becomae a third party too. Why should they make a system when they only have thier games. MArio zelda all of those name games. Why should the big N waste millions to make a sytem when they can just crunch out the games and put them on sony and the box and make more money and not have the loss from the console!

It most definatly will be a game announcement, but I still want to see a MS buys Sega announcement....or a good game.

I used to feel the same way about Nintendo, that they would go the 3d party publishing route. But now I think they'll continue to define the niche markets and milk them for profit for as long as possible. Just listen to their philosophy on the DS,
...We want to do things that you could not do before. We are looking at the creative end."

translation: We don't care about the latest and greatest, we just want it to look cool and be different. Kids are stupid, they'll buy anything to be different, yeah we won't sell as many as #1 gameconsole maker, but we'll make money on the ones we do sell. and we'll sell a lot of add-ons too.

Does anybody remember the rumor about the Xbox being backwards compatible with Dreamcast games a year before the xBox launch ? They should have done it. They'd have probably sold a lot more consoles and a buyout of Sega would have given MS a lot more game development resources. Heck, I thought about waiting for an Xbox until this so-called 'deal' fell through.
Those bastards they had a good thing and they just jumped ship!
dumbass.

they had a good thing THAT NO ONE BOUGHT. it wasnt there fault people were buying n64's and PSONES and saving up for PS2's. At least they let people know things were coming to a stop. Yeah...lets yell at a company we like because they tried to save thier own ass. good thinking.

I think the DS looks alot cooler now that we actually KNOW things about it. I see alot of fun coming out of this system...

ill admit, i was one of the people who let the DC die. i was blinded by what the ps2 will be, and only bought one recently. my friends planning on selling me a bunch of his games. i wish i adopted sooner. maybe theyd still be in the biz.

To all the DC lovers did you buy the system back in '99 or when it was $50? The DC was a big disappointment for me. I had to get it when it came out even after being very disappointed with the Saturn. The DC was a huge disappointment. The games were slow to come out and very few in-between. I am glad Sega is exclusively a 3rd party developer...but I am somewhat disappointed in that so far.

dc was the greatest system ever for me. i always hated sony so ps2 sisnt matter to me. but teh dc made every dream of mine at the time become reality.

THE GRAMMAR NAZI STRIKES AGAIN!

::swwoshes cape::

They jumped ship! Nobody baught it cause they said they were dropping it! It was really slow though. I loved the controler with the vmu that was cool but not used enough to make it really cool. I liked that when you played football they couldn't see what you were picking cause it was on the vmu. There was a lot of really breakthrough games cause of the DC though. Shenmue helped to create Streets of La and dead to rights. If sega had stayed with their products they would do better. They said they were pulling out of the DC and it soon could be found in any Eb/ videogame store. They jumped so everybody eles did too.

they jumped ship because they knew there was no way in hell they could survive aganist the PS2. I bought one when it first came out and was never disappionted with it (my least favorite console of all time remains the N64). I played so much Marvel vs. CAPCOM 2 there is no way I could hate it.

I did sell it to get GCN games though, and only recently got big into the DC again. Mainly because I have become obsessed with fighters. The DC and Saturn have become favorites not because of SEGA games, but CAPCOM and SNK games.

Wouldnt it be in sega fashion to release a add on to the dreamcast ala better gfx chip and a dvd rom  That be pretty funny i think, i magine the scramble for dreamcasts

Honestly i bought my dreamcast and it wasnt to bad. Sega was really ahead of time with seganet. How many years after did it take to get another console for online play?

I figure for sega though they be pretty bitter at microsoft, if you dont know microsoft wasnt even pondering a system till sega started asking about technical questions reguarding the then proto dreamcast .In typical bill gates fashion he rips off someone elses idea.

I can tell you why. Because Nintendo singlehandely revitalized the gaming industry. Most people thought video games were done, but Nintendo knew better. Nintendo executives have a lot of pride in what they do. They believe they are still the leaders of the gaming industry. It's this reason why they will go down to the death before they become a third party.

Also, I don't think they want to have to pay royalties and be under the control of another company on what they can publish and develop.

Furthermore, when platform companies become third parties, that just is one less competitor against the industry leader. And when there's no more competitors left, it becomes a monopoly. Then the product becomes stale because there's no competition for the industry leader and no real reason for it to continue to innovate. They can do as they wish and know consumers have to buy their products if they wish to enjoy whatever product they love.

It's this reason why it's more important than anything for Nintendo to stay profitable and continue to push other companies to do better, because in the end, it only benefits us, the consumer.

Actually, releasing an upgrade was in Sega's plans from the beginning. If you go look back at some of the DC's history you will find it. It was also reported in ODCM.

Also, the Dreamcast is STILL the only system with an internet browser. And it was like four versions of it. Talk about innovation. The Dreamcast, I believe, is the most innovative console that's ever graced our gaming hands.

I Agree with you on all most all of that. Its all about the money. If Nintendo can make more money being a third party like sega then they will. They really are not that innovative though more adaptive. Sega is innovative. Ex the mic controler the vmu, sega channel, and sega CD.

Sega is more willing to take a chance. Which Is why I think sega needs toi be in the third party. Hit some lose some.

I think other deveolpers are seeing this too as you see less and less games coming out for the cube. Its just Nintendo games ( few excewptions of course)

Many games that come out for ps2 and the box are not making the jump to the cube.

You're probably right. Sega's always looked to make the hype machine work for them, and it almost always backfires. Poor reliable Sega.

I was actually talking about console companies having to innovate more because of their competition. ABut I still think Nintendo is pretty innovative. They were, afterall, the first company to introduce handheld-to-console connectivity. Although Sega kinda did that in a very small way with the VMU, I still give the credit to Nintendo.

But yes, I agree with you that Sega is very innovative, which is why I believe it would be better for us to have them making hardware again. It would be pretty nice for Sammy to be backing Sega with its money.

I personally think it would be awesome to have a new sega console/handheld out on the market. Even if it doesn't tear up the market, it will surely add to the number of innovations out on the market.
But, if all that we can get out of them is a game announcement, I would really like to see a next-gen version of Shining Force. It obviously still has a following, since they made shining soul, are working on shining soul II, and of course the rereleasing of the first Shining Force. That would be awesome, don't you think?

Next sequel to SF and the follow up game in the Shining Wisdom/Soul line of games. All coming by 2005 (to japan at least)

I'm probably not going to be the last to point this out, but Nintendo manages to make money on just about everything... even their hardware

I Realize they make money from the console but the actual money making comes from game sells. It cost millions to produce and develop a new console. If they cut the console making and just make games their profits then go to millions more just because they are not using that money to develop. Thats why I think they wills top making consoles. The money that is involved. Would I hate it? Sure. I love the cube. I love nintendo games for that matter. ( yes I have all 3 so Im not a fanboy) I just can see them selling out like sega to ps or the box.

Personally I would like to see Sega enter the PC gaming market. I'm not talking about console ports like crazy taxi or virtua tennis but new concepts. I remember a while back ago they had some original pc games that weren't all that bad that were made by Segasoft. Also a few years back I remember playing the pc demo for PSO but never saw a commercial release for it. But this is probably less likely than them putting out a new console.

I agree dcfox, it one of the few areas sega has never really made a push towards. other than ports of console games, nothing exclusive has ever showed up for the PC. It be interesting how a good exclusive sega game would be received on the PC.

Sega are risk takers, hell they even made a few games for the n-gage., and that saying alot :)

I think maybe Sega would have some success if they brought the Espn 2k series over to pc. Other than EA no other publisher puts out sports games on the pc, other than sports management.

I'm sure it'll be something dissapointing, but think about this....

Sega has yet to announce a new Sonic title (besides from Sonic Advance 3 and the DS one), which is basically guaranteed money in the bank regardless of game quality. Could they be saving him up for something? Hopefully.

Man I'd kill for a home Atomiswave even if it ONLY had arcade ports. Well, I guess we'll all see what the big deal is tomorrow morning.

I wouldn't count on another new Sonic. Sonic Heroes wasn't too well received, from what I read, and I know that Yuji Naka gave a speech last E3 where he said that he didn't want to see piles upon piles of sequels being produced. However, there was the irony that he said this as he was promoting Sonic Heroes.

I'm guessing that Sega will announce that for one day only all EA Sports games will be half price. Then they will back away from it and laugh at all the free publicity they got.
