When is the Segaton announcement?

Man I wish it was news that sega was gong to make more board band adapters. I'm never going to pay $100+ for one. If it turns out to be X-Cast. I would die. But that will never happen. Sega making new & exlusive PC games would be very cool as well.

I'm sure it'll be something dissapointing, but think about this....

Sega has yet to announce a new Sonic title (besides from Sonic Advance 3 and the DS one), which is basically guaranteed money in the bank regardless of game quality. Could they be saving him up for something? Hopefully.

Man I'd kill for a home Atomiswave even if it ONLY had arcade ports. Well, I guess we'll all see what the big deal is tomorrow morning.
I wouldn't count on another new Sonic. Sonic Heroes wasn't too well received, from what I read, and I know that Yuji Naka gave a speech last E3 where he said that he didn't want to see piles upon piles of sequels being produced. However, there was the irony that he said this as he was promoting Sonic Heroes.
Didnt sell to bad on the gamecube, while on the other systems :(

Sonic team should do another Nights game :) of course billy hatcher was kinda shoved under the rug also :(

I always wonder about planet harrier also, never got a console release:(

Well, I read that some of the folks from Lik-Sang showed Sega of Japan the Treamcast in hopes of getting them to start to manufacture the system.

This could be what the Segaton announcement is. That Sega will release a limited number of portable Dreamcasts again and maybe they'll release a new game on the system.

I think it's probably suprised Sega by how much of a cult following the Dreamcast has gathered.

There was a banner going up at E3 with the words "SEGA" on the banner of the Matrix Online. I dont remember where I read it but they seem to think the announcement has something to do with that. Supposedly they are going to be copublishing it. I hope thats not the announcement.

I don't think it will be anything like a new console/hanheld or a matrix letdown. I believe the new announcement will be a DS version of Phantasy Star online. It makes sense the DS has wi-fi and sega seems to think that nintendo is home for phantasy star so why not?

But in Sega's press release they stated the announcement is going to be something we'd never expect. To me, that only signals 1) Sega will make a new console. 2) Sega will support the Treamcast or original Dreamcast. or 3) Sega is going to develop and publish games for one console. Likely Nintendo.

I think I had a discussion with you on how great it would be for it to be a new console but it just plainly isn't. Sega is showing off games every console at E3 including DS and PSP. If the case was that sega is making a new console/supporting only one or supporting a handheld then they would have scrapped everthing they have planned for other systems and port them to the new console/handheld/only nintendo.

I should have been more clear on that last one. I was meaning they could go to only one console for the next generation.

Is 9 a.m. Pac. when the announcement is supposed to be? I kinda thought it was scheduled for 3 p.m.?

for some ungodly reason, i ahve never heard of one of those. I just when and did some research and found something out: I hate you. I must now scour high and low for money and a system.

aww bugger...

Hahahaha, that is my next quest in console collection. A friend of mine just got his in. In the next week, check out my site, www.dreamcastersrealm.com and see his in-depth review of the console.

I thought someone said it was in the morning? But what do I know?

The Beast Returns!!!!!

Well, not really. It's a fake, but it's still kinda cool.

Here's the time: In less than two weeks time, on Wednesday, May 12, Sega will surprise the gaming world with an announcement from their booth at E3. According to an e-mail sent out to various media outlets this morning, the announcement will take place at 10:00 AM PST, and last for approximately 30 minutes. Sega is calling it an "Explosive Announcement Event".
shaq-fu you i nearly wet my pants when i saw that. the crappy resolution on school pcs cut off the reality on the bottom. all i saw were sega boxes.
Bwahahaha.

Here's what the announcement might be like, "First I'd like to let you know that I have some explosivo news and bad news. The bad news is that we're going to release a Billy Hatcher 2. The explosivo news is I just save a bunch of money on my car insurance my switching to Geico.!"

i can see them adding better pc support, but with the kinds of games sega releases it would just be more money birning away.
Crap, this is the first time im excited about E3.
I was mildly stoked waiting on the various hardware manufacturer press conferences on Monday and Tuesday. Nothing truly earth-shattering came of them though, and I was left mildly disappointed. At this point, I'm just hoping Sega's explosive news won't be bad news for me (like they're not supporting the current systems anymore or something). It's less than an hour until press time though, so we'll soon see.
Has anyone been able to confirm the time?
Yes, it's at 10 a.m. PST. That was in Sega's original email. It will last 30 minutes. So we might not find out until the end, which will be in another hour!

*cartman screaming* DAMNIT!! IT'S 12:03 ALREADY!! WHERE'S THAT DAMN ANNOUNCEMENT!!

i was looking at gamespot, they had nintendo, sony and microsoft all live, but nothing with sega. i gave up and just started watching xbox trailers.

i guess it was so shocking they are still recovering, or more likely they are saving it for last, and maybe it started a little late, ran a little long

Well, it should be over by now. It was supposed to run from 10-10:30 a.m. I need answers, damnit!!!

I can't check any of the major game news sites at work, so can any of you guys see what's happening? Please post an article once you find something.

A new phantasy star game? whoopidy doo... ... I thought nintendo and sega were going to team up to merge and change their name to Nega.
that would be a big announcement, but i hardly see why it would be something "totally unexpected"
Yeah, I agree. Although, I've been saying PSO should have been a MMORPG forever, if this is their announcement, I really feel a bit dissapointed. This still would be really cool, I was just hoping for something a bit more.

New SEGA Handheld
E3 2004 will surely be remembered as the year of the portable gaming device. With Sony's PSP announcement and Nintendo's DS unveiling, this year's show has already had more than its fair share of portable goodness - but Sega's shock revelation that it is developing its own device must top the lot.

However, according to Yuji Naka, who unveiled the machine to shocked games industry representatives at a Sega E3 press briefing held just half an hour ago, with their new creation (code-named 'Prometheus') Sega are not attempting to directly compete with either Sony or Nintendo. 'Prometheus' is instead being billed by Sega as "the videogame equivalent of the iPod", and with the machine's pearl-white colour scheme it is obvious to see that the company wish to invoke the design-chic of Steve Jobs' ultra-popular music-playing machine. The similarities do not end there, however: rather than purchasing games from their local GameStop, gamers will download 'Prometheus' titles (called 'gamebits') from a special Sega online service which, Sega said, will operate in a similar way to Apple's iTunes software. With the use of a supplied USB cable (also white) users may then transfer up to twenty 'gamebits' on to their 'Prometheus' system's 15GB hard drive for play any time, any place.

The 'Prometheus' is roughly the same width as a CD case, and half the height. It will operate on a rechargeable battery (as yet unconfirmed as being lithium) which Sega say will last up to twenty hours. In a surprising move, in order to conserve battery power, the 'Prometheus' screen will not be backlit: a decision which we believe likely to alienate many gamers, and one inexplicable in lieu of recent technological developments which should negate such problems. Nevertheless, with the power, according to Sega, of "the Dreamcast, plus a little extra", and a genuinely innovative and cost-effective approach to game distribution, the 'Prometheus' certainly shows promise - and if the jubilant cheers and applause from the assembled journos are anything to go by, Sega's return to hardware is more than welcome.

Expect more tomorrow at the official Sega press conference where we hope to see at least footage of several potential launch titles."

LOL

Now this is what I'm talking about!!!! Whoo Hooo!

No need to worry about losing games anymore. Now, you can store all those games on a 15 GB hard drive!

Although the lack of backlighting is a bit questionable. But that will only take a few months before someone comes up with a way to backlight it.

I'm really, really excited about this. This leads me to my next question, though. Will Sega continue to support other handhelds and if not, will they be porting their handheld MMORPG to their new system?

I need to see pics now! I wonder how much this thing is going to cost. Also, I wonder what the control scheme and screen is like.

Is this really a good plan for Sega? I don't see any room in the market for another handheld with SP, DS and PSP already flooding the market. I'm also not to hot on the (as I read it) pay to download a game and play it for a period of time.. it ruins any collector's interest, and you can't go back and play a game 6 months later unless you want to pay for it all over again... All in all.. I'd say poor plan.

I wouldn't get too excited over this post yet, I read this article this morning, and according to the site, the info was pulled off of Sega's message board, which anyone can write on.

Well, shite! We all know the Sega boards are utter crap. People over there always post fake crap, so if what you say is true, then I am not convinced yet. I want to see an article from a respectable gaming site before I will really believe it.

*yawn* How underwhelming. And I agree with Cornfedwb. Nintendo's one-two combo of GBA and DS are going to be hard to overcome, if not impossible. Throwing yet another machine out there at the same time that Sony is doing the same is foolhardy.

Methinks Sega is about to remember why they got out of the hardware business to begin with.

Yeah, I have to doubt that story. Sammy didn't buy Sega to continue letting them make stupid business moves.
