Sooo...
I have had this shit DELL computer for a while now. Prob about 5 years or more.
And since E3 is just about done, and they showed all the new games coming out, well...they didn't really show anything "new" since everyone has known about these games for quite sometime, Unreal 3, Crysis, BioShock, Call of duty 4, etc. I have been wondering when do you think is the best time I should throw down my $1,000 to get up to par to play these amazing fucking games that are coming out for PC.

Right now im running
Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz Processor
With 1.5 Gigs of Ram
Plenty of HD space
With a shitty 6600GT Nvidia Card

Right now I have 4gigs of Ram from OCZ that I won from Showdown LAN 2007 that I went to, which was fucking awesome by the way, and a 650 PS from Antec.
So all I really need is a motherboard, CPU, sweet Antec case that im looking at getting when i upgrade, and a sick ass graphics card...or graphics cards??? if I want to go SLI or Crossfire, whatever the fuck ati calls it.
Is it even worth doing the whole double graphics cards thing by the way?

So back to my main question, I was thinking in my head, with the Unreal 3 engine out with Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas and Unreal 3 coming out soon I was thinking I should upgrade to fit my computer to perform well with Unreal 3 when it comes out, but im not sure if thats a good idea, if that would be up to par to last me another 5 years of good gaming on my pc or not. Since right now I can only play like CSS and UT2k4. And I won a copy of Rainbow Six Vegas at Showdown Lan as well, but I CANT fuckING PLAY IT on my PC cuz my computer sucks to much balls right now :wall:
I know waiting is always a good thing, but man I really want to start playing around with this new Unreal 3 engine!!!
Okay so what do you guys think?
Thanks for all the help, and sorry for all the cuzing, been watching to much epileptic gaming.

do it now, or the internet will eat you

and considering the specs you have, there is no way your system is 5 years old or more.

I'd recommend sticking with just one kick butt graphics card unless you have unlimited funds. For 2 top cards, you'd probably need a liquid cooling system and a power plant to keep it running.

1 top of the line card is better than 2 good cards from what i've seen (plus gives you more wiggle room to upgrade later). Plus, you might need more power than 650 watts for 2 top of the line cards. Might want to check on that.

Quad core processors should drop in price in Aug and again early next year I think but prices are always dropping so just gotta find the sweet spot for what is good enough for what you want to spend.

The general rule is usually to wait as long as you can before buying a new computer. When patience run out or you can't play any games then go find the best deals and build your pc.

QFT. Be happy you don't have a GeForce Ti 4200 in my 5 year old computer. It's served me well, but it just can't handle today's games.

I wouldn't get a new computer now. Your 6600 should be able to handle them, albeit not at high settings at all. I'm getting a new computer now (notebook; I plan to keep it until my last year at college) which should kick ass. I've had my computer nearly 6 years. You should be able to stretch the life of yours at least another year if you upgrade some of your hardware. If not, wait until the games actually come out. Don't go spending all of your money now.

Just remember, some people (me) would kill for your system.

Wait till Nvidia releases the 9 series in a few months. Also, look into DDR2 or even DDR3 ram.

And no, dual card setups are not worth it. For the cost of 2 cards and a fitting mobo you might get %30 more FPS.

Alright, I guess ill be waiting then.
Yeah I dont think my comps 5years old...maybe 3 or 4? I can't remmember when I bought it.
Thanks for the help guys.
I'll just keep my patience

Haha TC what a coincidence! We have almost the exact same computer, mine's a 4 year-old Dell, and I am starting to build a new PC for myself. So I guess my answer is to obviously build one now.

I have almost the same specs as you, OP. I may just get one final video card upgrade as AGP is at the end of its life. I'm thinking a 7800GS or X1950GT card will likely be more than fast enough for my Athlon XP 3200+, and the CPU will be the bottleneck.
I will wait until Vista is straightened out, Intel quadcores come down in price, AMD releases its quadcores (maybe by the end of the year), Creative's X-Fi works to some extent with Vista, and DirectX 10 cards come down in price. So, maybe next year I'll start building a new rig.

Yeah, same here. Most probably look into getting a newer video card for my AGP slot to replace the Radeon 9800 256MB card I have and also upgrade from my 2.8Ghz processor. Might even look into bumping up from 2GB to 4GB RAM.
