Especially all of you CAGs that have huge collections, what are you using to store your games? I have a Sauder A/V cabinet that is overfilled and I am looking for something else to use.

I found this:
http://www.can-am.ca/cdvideo.htm but it is way too expensive. Does anybody know where I can get something similar?

Nope, don't know anything similar, but to answer your current question.. a big bookshelf. Fits 28 per row. There's 5 rows, and row 4 is almost done :D

i have 2 120 DVD shelves that I use for all of my movies and most of my games, it is filled to capacity. I also have an 80 CD tower which is filled to capacity, half with CDs and half with DC/PS games.

Wow, $329 for the 2-drawer set... But I must say, that thing does look quite nifty! If I wasn't such a cheap ass, I'd be all over that. :)

Anyhoo, here's what I store my games in:

It's kind of hard to see the whole thing, but you get the idea. I also have my other games (more NES, SNES, N64, Saturn, etc.) in cardboard boxes under my bed.
We are awaiting delivery of this http://www.racksandstands.com/prods/Wood-Technology/TO-1260/0PWT0096.htm. Also have a cabinet that holds 300+ DVDs that is full and DVDs on bookshelves as well. Currently video games are stored in yet another cabinet storing about 180. Hoping to get it down to just the 300+ cabinet and the new one that we are waiting for.
Yikes! $350?!! Definately looking for a cheaper solution, but that stand is nice though. Holds a lot of discs.

Depending on your price range your best bet would be to just go somewhere like Office Depot and buy a storage cabinet that runs about 100 bucks. It locks and stores a lot of stuff. If you would like to go the cheap route like I did you should just spend about 30 bucks and pick up one of those five shelf bookcases. Stores a lot of games too and is cost effective. :)

This is probably what I will have to do. Thanks for the idea.

How much was the black storage unit and where did you get it?

I have that exact same storage unit. It was $20 from Office Max or Depot (can't remember which). Definitely worth it, its a great storage unit.

Hehe, yeah, I got it for $19.99 from Office Max. If I remember correctly, it can hold up to nearly 400 CDs or 168 DVDs. I forget the exact numbers. :? Not like it really matters since I also place my Saturn and NES (not pictured) games in it.

Yeah, didn't really want to spend that much either, but we wanted something heavy duty so hopefully it will be a long time before it ever needs to be replaced. Also, the clincher was that it only takdes up 23" square of floor space. My tv and stereo cabinets already take up nearly 100" across one wall.

galvatron,

you can get something similar to below at office max for under $50.00

Oh man, that is one sweet ass glass case. I gotta get me one. :)

Show me please, I would love to cancel that order if you know of something similar to the quality and capacity of this.

I got it from work
I have one of these but of kill bill, you have to level every segment or it starts to collapse. I am probably eventually going to upgrade to a wooden cabinet someday. I also have so many more games in boxes.

My biggest collection so far is my Game Boy games. I keep them in a lunchbox (one that was never used for food) along with any accessories I have and a Ziploc bag full of manuals. It works wonders.

The few PS2 games we have are kept on tiny bit of empty shelving space on the bookshelf the console (did) inhabit, and our PC games are either in CD racks or in random piles of jewel cases.

ooomfg i must have this case. Is that lighting inside that i see? why didnt i think of offering $$ for one when my kb went out of business. Also does that GC sign up top open for storage??

Yes, there is lighting inside (2 florescent bulbs) and the GC logo lights up (but is not used for storage). The glass case locks and the shelves are made out of heavy ass metal (and are also adjustible). The sweetest thing is (since the power switch is in the back) I hooked the lighting up to a wireless indoor/outdoor outlet, to power it on/off whenever I feel like it (like this one: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/shoptronics/wireco3poous1.html ). I thought it was a steal at a mere $150!!

http://tinypic.com/19p2yq

It fits most of my collection ( http://users.ign.com/collection/cat44 ). Top shelf stores my Xbox. Next shelf has my GC, GBA & most of my DC titles. Next shelf has my PS2, DS, & most of my PS titles. Next shelf has Anime DVDs & most of my SNES titles. Next shelf has most of my N64 titles. And, on the bottom is my strat guides and some accessories.

I also could use some cheap ass DVD storage as well. I have run out of room for my games and DVDs. Keep the suggestions coming.

anyone know if i put them in sacks next to a Radio speaker if it would damage the games... Im out of space and storeing the free TRU games in brown paper bags

This case is the greatest one I have seen. $150 is kind of pricey for me at this point, but I want this. Luckily, my best friend works at a KayBee so I may be able to swing this, possibly for cheaper. Excellent post man, thanks!

I will bump this. I am interested in a new method of storing games and DVDs. I have over 300 current generation games and over 300 DVDs not to mention tons of games for every generation prior to this one.

Anyone know of any good storage systems or shelving systems for us collecting cheapasses?

I have most of mine in a small rubbermaid garden toolbox that stands about 4 feet. It also has a hole on each door to slide a master lock through. Now no one shaq-fus wit my shiznizzle!!

Ill have to check out my local Office Max for one of those.

I keep all my games in these:

B00004YUZ8.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

They come with 12 sleeves per case and I have 10 cases full. It is difficult to store 12 games, though, usually 10-11 is normal since some games have thicker instruction manuals.

They're perfect for storing the game disc in the non-static, non-scratch pouch in the back and instruction manual in the clear plastic pouch in the front of every page. Much more compact and unobtrusive than plastic game boxes, and less wear and tear on the disc hubs from constant popping out of plastic cases. And since the good trade-in deals at GameRush are over, I can put that giant box of game cases back in the attic for storage.

Gamestop used to carry these and was selling them for 1.99 last year. It's also a breeze to port them to a friend's house instead of lugging unruly plastic cases. Plus, it's a 3 ring binder, so you can change out sleeves when ever you feel like it. I organize mine by genre and seperate the archives from the current playbooks. I highly recommend them to everyone. Unless, of course, your vanity outweighs your need for protection, convenience and shelf space.

great shelving with the option of upgrades and add ons, always a sale or coupons to use!
WAY overpriced though IMO. $150 for a 160 DVD rack.
Although, the wall mountable ones are a cool idea....but not for $80

What an awesome way to store your games. Too cool! Enjoy it! :)

I did some searching for the unit that Socheata had. I could only find it on target.com, priced at $70. :( Comes in a wood finish too.

Guess you'll have to check to see if anyone has it cheap in-store. It's a great looking storage unit.

I just have my games stacked on a shelf above my TV and in a basket on a side table. I tend to sell my games as I play them so I probably only have 30-40 Xbox games in my current collection. (Might be less.)

I have a bunch of older system games in boxes. Though I did snag some official NES cartridge holders in which a good portion of my NES collection reside. And I'm pretty much in the process of selling off most of those as well. (Only the very best of the old school stuff is worth keeping around IMO.) Only problem there is a good portion aren't worth enough to sell on their own so I have to figure out what I want to do as far as lots.

Well I'm managed to go completely OT here. Sorry about that :)

I use a 50 DVD rack I got from CC about 2 years ago, planning to get another sometime since I've filled it up and have the rest of my games and stuff on top of my computer.

games.jpg

All my current generation games are stacked in my entertainment center. Since i've got an as load of games, and since the games are free standing in the entertainment center, taking one game out will mess up the stack, plus the risk of the games falling. I put all my game disks in 3 CD Wallet's(Black for PS2/Green for XBOX/Purple for GCN), It makes the job getting of games easier. All my old generation games are in an old army foot locker, it's filled to the brim with NES/SNES/SEGA/Saturn/DreamCast and PSone games. The consoles are in my closet shelves. My PC games are all in a CD Binder, the jewel cases are stacked on a shelf above my desk. I wish I had a Digital Camera, but I don't. But you get the mental picture.
