Where is a good place to get eyeglasses?

if you have a costco nearby with an optical lab, check them out...they have a decent selection of frames, and the lenses arent too expensive either...i wear contacts all the time & the glasses are hardly used, so i just got a pair to have and didnt go "all out" on the frame...
 
My wife works for an optical place and says that most of those in-store optical places are crap. I never wear glasses though so I can't personally vouch for or against a particular place as far as quality goes.

I guess it would depend on how long you plan to keep them. If you are the type to want new frames ever year or so, I'd go with cheaper ones. But if you are going to keep them for a while, I would pay the extra $$$ for quality frames that aren't going to be broken easily.
 
you can get titanium frames plus lenses from sears for $99 plus tax (unless their promo has changed). if you require thinner lenses, you can upgrade for about $20 to $30.

Well unless I was doing some wresting or playing tackle football, I don't see how your frames could get broken. Not only that, I'm sure if I sit on $50 or $250 lenses they will break just as easily.

I would have thought the same thing if my wife wasn't in the optical business. You wouldn't believe the stories I hear from her about people and their broken frames. People are pretty dumb. True about sitting on them though...

Well I certainly can't argue with the statement "People are dumb." But the cheapass in me wins out almost always.
 
Trust me, frames do get bent out of shape or get broken. I've went through quite a few. LOL.

Speaking of which, I do also need to get new lens this year. Too blury.

Because they care for their eyes, and dont want to buy from a ghetto ass person off the street whos glasses will further fuck up your eyes...

To make a pair of glasses, a lens and a frame have to love each other very dearly. Then they do a special dance and glasses are born! You can get plastic frames from the dollar store and put professional lenses in them and you woudn't fuck up your eyes.
 
haha, okay, this is like medical care and I would suggest if you are anything like me (I am in the -6's and have to be constantly wearing my contacts or glasses) that you not be a cheapass when it comes to glasses. I've bought both cheap lenses/frames and cheaper contacts and both turned out lousey.

If you're paying low price now for glasses, you may find you have to go back in six-eight months for a new pair, at which point you're paying more.
basic rule of thumb is if you're going to be wearing these for hours and hours and hours daily for the span of at the least a year or two, don't go somewhere that has them done in an hour...it's your vision, not a pizza ^_^
 
I'd say go to your local optimetrist, because
a) it's always better to support a local business.
b) you will get better frames and better service than at a 1-hour place.
Hell, I don't trust my film to a one hour photo place, let alone my eyes.

My girlfriend just got a pair of Gucci, and I got myself some DKNY titanium frames, both were $41 total.

I love optical insurance.
 
See if there is a Factory Eyeglass outlet near you.
I dont know if its a chain, but there is one in Baldwin NY thats a really good place to go and you can get glasses sometimes under 100 with extra options like anti-fog/scratch coats and thin lenses.
Years ago I got a frame that was made by nintendo. I didnt even realize it until I looked at the inner arm a few weeks later. I wonder if they still make frames.

They saw you coming... Gucci frames are typically $100-$200 frames completely without insurance.

And trust us, noone is impressed by your "GQ Gucci frames", it just makes you look like quite an asshat when you attempt to brag about such a thing.


That said.. previous to vision insurance, I always went through a one-hour place (usually Lenscrafters). I had pretty much the exact same results as going to a local optometrist, except for less bleeding out of the wallet.
