I bought a white DS3 controller from eBay, it worked okay for a while until the 3.0 update. Then learned that the controller is fake and proceeded to issue a complaint with Paypal. Received a refund, but buyer appealed and now I have to provide documentation from a third party stating that the controller is fake. Any ideas?:

To continue with the investigation of your complaint, we must request
documentation to support your claim that the item is not authentic. Please
obtain a document from an unbiased, third-party, such as a dealer,
appraiser, or an organization that is qualified in the area of the item in
question (other than yourself), which clearly identifies the item as not
authentic. The document must specifically state how the item received
differs from an authentic item and must include a detailed explanation of
how the person evaluating the item determined that it is not authentic. If
possible, the document should include a serial number, and must be on
letterhead that includes the name, address, and phone number of the
business or organization so that PayPal may contact them if necessary.

The documents should be faxed to PayPal at (402) 537-5760 (please note this
is a United States phone number, if you are faxing from outside the United
States, you will generally need to dial 00 1 before the number). Please
include a cover sheet with your fax that includes the email address
registered on your PayPal account and the ID number of your claim,
so we may attach the documents to your claim as quickly
as possible.

We must receive your fax by September 26, 2009 in order to proceed with the
investigation of your claim. If we do not receive your fax by September 26,
2009, your claim will be canceled. We are unable to grant extensions to
this time period. Please note that PayPal is unable to reimburse you for
any costs or fees that may be incurred in obtaining the requested
documents. Any documents you provide may also be supplied to the seller in
your dispute if necessary.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience. We regret any inconvenience
this request may cause.

They want documentation that it is fake. And I did send that video initially. There's actually more to telling that the controller is fake once you open it up.

And the seller is no longer registered and the auction has been taken down.

Show paypal that the seller in no longer registered and that the auction has been removed.

That is how I initially received my refund, I called them and told them that.

Just got off the phone with Paypal and they gave me the same BS about providing documentation. Tried explaining to them that it's not like designer stores where you can bring this in to get authenticated, but Tyler (employee id# 41750) says to bring it to a Best Buy to have it looked it. That is some serious BS.

I'd suggest talking to the manager-on-duty about your issue, and bring the email they sent you, plus your notes about going to Best Buy to have them "inspect" it.

Did they give you any idea of what they'll need to provide for you to "prove" it's fake?

Just a letter head of them explaining what they looked at (basically, me explaining to them why it's fake and what to put on the letter head). I guess it's worth a try though...not too happy about the whole situation. Hopefully, the manager is chill enough to help me out.

Can't say if this will help or not, but have you tried updating your firmware to 3.1? I've read on a few forums, that it is *supposed* to fix issues with some controllers (though I honestly haven't read about anyone who has had a controller issue that have confirmed or denied whether 3.1 fixed their problems or not). It may or may not fix your particular issues, but it's probably worth trying at least.

Good luck, I hope you can get this resolved either through a firmware update or through paypal and/or the seller.
Called Best Buy, they can't help me. Yeah...I'm not getting my money back at all.
I dont think any retail chain store is going to help you. Find local store, buy something there and they will likely help you.

Just came back from Gamestop, luckily one that has a cool guy working the counter. He couldn't print out anything but he did sign a business card saying that he verified it was fake. That's probably the best thing I can get out of any retail store.
