Hey everyone! I was just wondering where you all go for your music information when you want to read up on a new band, hear some soundbites, or simply find a new band that you never heard of before. I used to go to this really cool site for my "indie" stuff and could buy right off there too (forget the name...it was a while ago) but that site went under. It had quickie reviews and descriptions of the sound, similar artists, etc. I guess I am looking for something like that.

For my multi-genre needs I like www.artistdirect.com. They have information on a ton of artists in all different genres of music. I also check the obvious sites like amazon and cduniverse, but mainly for reviews after I have identified potential purchases.

I'm basically trying to broaden my information sources so please post your favorite online sources.

If this is something that has been discussed before, I apologize. Feel free to post a link and lock this thread up. Thanks!

allmusic.com is pretty good for checking out discographies and sound clips of bands or people you're not familiar with. their reviews and "similar artists" aren't always on target, and it's not really a site for news, but overall it's good and informative.

it was better before they redesigned the site, though.

I use a combination of Musicmatch Jukebox and Amazon.com, supplemented by bmgmusicservice.com if Amazon doesn't have samples for all the tracks on a particular album.

The allmusic guiide is a good source for band history and sound bites. It's also GENERALLY on when it comes to their reviews, so it's good for finding a starting point with a group you may not be too familiar with. Just beware that they tend to fellate a LOT of people.

I go to amazon for audio clips, when possible. For info though I normally just go to the bands website. Also, I often find new bands just by seeing interesting album covers in a store and then going home to look them up.

I do this all the time too, but now that I live a little far out it's harder to get to the record stores I used to frequent. Even getting to a best buy is difficult these days. Thus, I am going to have to rely on the internet alot more than I used to.

Keep 'em coming people! Thanks to everyone so far!
