I was just watching some banned Merry Melodies and Tex Avery cartoons that are about Hitler and WW2. It's kind of funny to see the propaghanda that went on back then, and how it seems so surreal to me so many years after the war was ended. The people at the time probably thought little of it, which got me to thinking of the propaghanda that's going on in today's world.

Do you think any cartoons or TV shows will become banned after the war in Iraq is over?

I was thinking of the Osama episode of South Park, which is strikingly similar to the Merry Melodies depictions of Hitler (most likely intentionally so). But I'm sure there's a lot more.

Were those MM and TA actually 'banned', or did the distributors pull them from distribution?

Check out Walt Disney Treasures "On The Front Lines", a collection of WWII propaganda and educational cartoons/films. There's one, forget what it's called, that shows 'the birth of a Nazi' and it's really disturbing. But yes, it is a definite different feel--even though we're 'at war' now, it's a very different thing that those of us who weren't around during or immediately after WWII or even Vietnam can't really understand.

Not sure of the accuracy of the word "Banned", but thats what the filenames say. I've seen a few in various film courses that I've taken, but I just recently downloaded a few from direct connect.

Yeah, I think I have the one you're talking about.

Walt Disney's "The Story of One of 'Hitler's Youth' as Adapted from Education for Death. The Making of a Nazi."

It's about a boy named Hans, and how the Nazi party molds him into German soldier. Wacky stuff.

[Concerning only Looney Toons cartoons]

You have been downloading the shows and noticed "banned" in some filenames, right?

Only the racial propaganda (imposed by the government during the pacific theater) was banned, but rest assured they still show "Gremlins from the Kremlin" and other anti-Hitler episodes.
