Which game will be this generation's Suikoden II??

I thought the topic is about what games will become rare (i.e. get Soduiken II at MSRP or less, before it becomes a three figure game). This topic has nothing to do with whether or not you are into paying $300 for a sealed copy of Suidoken II.

There is no point of predicting what will become rare. Games get re-printed or ported to another format all the time. The best strategy is to buy what you like and at a price point you are comfortable with.

Ported to another format doesn't really make much difference. It's the reprints to be worried about if you are in to collection.

At least in cases like Valkyrie Profile. If someone can think of where a different format remake has made a difference on the original please let me know.

I think Chrono Trigger and FFVI on the SNES went down in price when Anthologies/Chronicles came out.

I really don't see Odin Sphere or Persona 3 becoming rare... I can walk into any store and still find both games right from the shelf.

And I agree, it's kinda pointless to talk about what will be rare/expensive in the future because we never really know. While I agree it'd would be nice to get the games now rather than pay a premium in the future (like I had to with 5-10 PS1 games) it's really hard to say what'll become what.

Maybe yes, maybe no. I clearly remember passing by Suikoden II at the Circuit City in San Diego many times back in 2000, thinking to myself,

"28.99, that's way too much for an old Playstation game."

WRONG. Oh well, live and learn although if I ever find a time machine, I know where I'm going first.

Barring any reprints...

Ar Tonelico
SMT: Nocturne
Growlanser: Heritage of War

Also, the LE of MGS3: Subsistance is already worth more then most Suikoden 2 auctions.

When MGS4 comes out it will be worth 300+ sealed I bet.

Clearly you haven't seen Back to the Future II. Sure, McFly wasn't bringing home historical stock trends, but he wasn't trying to make $50 on a video game.

I still need to get Persona 3 before it becomes a huge pain in the ass to find. I figured I have a good month or two.

I guess that's true... I passed up on Valkyrie Profile myself.
I really think Obscure and Jurassic Park Operation Genesis are primed to take off in price, those and maybe Battle Assault 3.
As in Gundam: Battle Assault 3??

I HOPE I didn't trade in my copy for peanuts last December!
I can't remember!! *argh*

Still have these to keep me warm:

-Obscure PS2
-SMT: Nocturne
-SMT: Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2
-SMT: Devil Summoner
-MGS3: Subsistence LE *SEALED* :D

and many many more :D

Only thing I would be worried about with thoses is those seem to be likely candidates for reprints (except for Obscure and MGS3 LE).
Anyone think Chulip will be rare?
It will be rare but that doesn't mean it will be worth anything.

When you think of games like Suikoden II and Valkyrie Profile (to a lesser extent Persona 2 pre-reprint days and the Tales of Destiny games), they were actually good games (highly regarded) that people wanted to play.

Games that are rare but crap won't get to that level, that's why I can't see Obscure or JP OP Genesis getting there (not that they are crap, I loved Obscure). Your RPG becomes sought after a lot of times for the story, as the gameplay doesn't really get old or unusable like it does in other genres (RE games for example).

That's why I could see the Shin Megami games getting way way up there but when talking about this before you never really had to worry about reprints.

Edit: Speaking of Obscure, I just noticed Obscure II listed for the Wii on metacritic.
LOL NO ONE(either here or @ Gamestop) could answer me whether or not SH Covenant was an action RPG or turn based, so I said 'f it' and swapped it in disc only to GS for $17-20 in credit about a year or so ago.

Go figure, since I found it @ Kmart for $3-4 anyway and didn't want it sitting here collecting dust.
I'm just wondering, why did you trade it in disc-only? Never knew why people do that...

Here are some PS2 games that will be rare (or already are):
Graffiti Kingdom (most haven't even heard of it)
Guilty Gear Isuka (don't see it around very much, not a good game though)
King of Fighters 2000/2001 2 pack
Marvel vs Capcom 2 (0% chance of reprint)
Downforce
Skygunner
Both Victorious Boxers

I don't see Isuka becoming that rare. I've seen it in every Gamestop NYC when I lived there. Capcom vs SNK 2 has a a much better chance of being rare.

LoL - got rid of my Skygunner.

Still have my Rez and Gitaroo Man though.

odin sphere and grim grimoire are already getting rare and they've only been out for a couple of months. amazon has stopped selling grim grimoire and the cheapest copy I could find used on ebay is the same price as it new.

rez isn't rare. It's only 40 bucks on ebay and you should get rid of it now while you still can before the rez HD makes it cheaper. I paid 40 bucks for gitaroo man but now it's only 20 bucks on ebay cause of the psp version.

It wasn't the PSP version that drove the price down, it was the GQD reprint of it on the PS2.

Hmmm... really? Crap. I don't want to pay $40 for Grim Grimoire but I really don't want to pay $70 for it. I still see it all over here at it's regular price.

I just wanted to be a dick to some collector who would see it in GS and go 'who trades in a game disc only?'. Plus, I wanted to keep the double case for myself, so I didn't want to have to trade the case. Hell, they give the same amount if you trade games disc only or complete, so why not be a jerk and trade in a wanted game disc only? :booty:

you could use the bestbuy coupon and get it for 35 plus tax. I think that's the best deal. You might win it on ebay for 30 plus shipping but that would be used. either way you'd make a good investment cause it would just jump in value.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see Grim Grimoire getting rare, as few NISA games get rare (The only one I can think of is Ar Tenelico). I think GG might just hold MSRP for used copies, but it won't be as rare as Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden 2, or SMT: Nocurne. But I could be totally wrong. :D

Well it was a bitch finding Metal Slug Anthology for the ps2 in store, but I finally picked one up at gamequest in the mall.

I tried looking for it used at all the ebgames and gamestops around my place but no one had it.

Outrun 2: Coast to Coast is pretty uncommon, although its even rarer for Xbox. And good luck finding a copy of Futurama anywhere outside of Ebay.

They are uncommon, but not really super expensive yet, I think thats because they're not Japanesey Anime-RPG type games.

yeah but they aren't the kinda games that will appreciate cuase they aren't spectacular or quirky. Just above average.
